Retired nurse here. I loved being a nurse and I love being a quilter.I thoroughly enjoy watching Pat Sloan she is so encouraging and helpful. Delightful to watch. I think she makes everyone feel as though their her very BBF. Thank you Pat for all the sunshine you bring into so many lives.
Retired nurse and now more time for quilting 😜
Same here😊
Yep. ❤
Retired from nursing after 47 years. Loved my patients and my colleagues! Miss my professional life but love my quilting /crafting time.
I am a working NP that loves to sew and quilt. Saw that Kelli Fannin, nurse and quilt pattern designer, passed away last week. So very sad😢 prayers for her family and loved ones.
Love your show Pat!❤❤
Retired RN here from Washington state. Always look forward to your daily video 😊
I’m a nurse, approaching retirement. Then I can quilt more!
Same here!
Retired RN...I can't sew for very long each day because of spinal problems and scoliosis. I get discouraged at how slow I am, but I sure enjoy making quilts!!! Thank you Pat for all you do 😊
So good to take a turn around your studio and to hear some things about you that are not necessarily quilt related! Thanks for that! ❤
I'm also a retired RN. I loved bedside nursing and never had desire to do anything but that! Today is my 70th birthday and glad to have you as part of my day! I agree with the others that you add so much joy to our days! Thank you!
Happy birthday!!
Nice chat today…. starting the day with coffee and you ☕️. Nice block parade, everyone, beautiful colors. And thank you to nurses today, you are appreciated!
I so appreciate these videos! I live in Kentucky & my 90 year old mom lives in California and we watch together. We enjoy talking about all the projects Pat has going and it inspires both of us to get to work in our sewing rooms. Thank you !
That is awesome! thank you both!
RN still working couple days a week. Have been a nurse for 51 years. Didn’t like being retired. 😂😂😂 Thanks to all for your hard work and to Pat who keeps us sane every day!❤
Retired Respiratory Therapist and more time to quilt also ❤️
I am a nurse! Over 35 years. I wear glasses when I don't wear contacts. My frames are Blue. Love the colored frames.
RN still working prn despite being retired. Did not like being at home during pandemic and went back to work at that time.😂
My husband retired after 35 years as an IU nurse. As far as I’m concerned nurses are the most under appreciated and underpaid people out there! They work their behinds off and the doctors take all the credit!
I’m a nurse. 12 more years until I can retire. Counting down the days until I can quilt full time 😂 I have Nightingale quilt I made in Red Cross colors. I’m working on hand quilting it in the evenings after work.
Very happy for you. Enjoy your new chapter
Retire earlier if you can. I got out 5 years ago at age 61. Insurance was expensive but I don't regret it.
Didn’t know nurses day is in November, usually in May. Retired nurse. Loved it so much!
Today is also National Diabetes Day! Our son is Type 1. Could you share how a normal day of sewing goes for you? I watch your videos everyday! Thank you for sharing!!
I love your red glasses. Don’t ever change the color. 😀❤️
I laughed when you said read directions! I am making Oh My Stars and my charm packs had a mind of their own. First they were not 5"x5" but 6"x6" and not 42 count but 30 count each. Oh My Stars!? That changed everything about the stars, borders measurements. So much more difficult than it should be. I made it and lessons learned.
Pat Sloan, your block parade was so nice! Enjoy spending time in the Sloan Zone whenever you have the "door" open for visitors. Sure missed you yesterday & of course Saturday but I'm adjusting to no Saturday video. Have a great evening & hopefully I'll get to see you before I report for Physical Therapy at 9 a.m. (pt says I'll enjoy a ride on stationery bike, 1 week since knee replacement surgery). Enjoy hearing you talk about all your travels, hubby doesn't like to travel/take vacations.😊
Nurses Day was May 6, 2023. It’s always the first week of May. Nurse of 33 years here.
Enjoy the 2nd Nurse day! Seems today is for a specific type of nurse.. but it is ok to be celebrated again, don't you think? nationaltoday.com/operating-room-nurse-day/
Pat, the star in the Fat Quarter shop appears to be a de-tailer. You thread it through the stitches on the back of your work to snag the floss when you play floss chicken and have just a short piece of thread to weave through the back. I love them. Also called tail tuckers.
Loving the community quilt blocks for inspiration ❤
My husband and I took a river cruise on the Danube from Budapest to Amsterdam - it was wonderful & we also went to the Van Gogh museum, which I loved! I found the Anne Frank house very moving.
Working on a wall hanging that has 1 inch pieces. Driving me crazy this morning.
I guess I am like you Pat. I did see the cutting instructions for the sashing and borders but wanted to cut as I sew so I wouldn't have fabric going sideways! I love these videos where you show us what you are working on and some of your thought processes. Really helps out this newby! Thank you!😊
Wow, sounds like you've had an amazing life with all the places you have seen...what a blessing!
Hello from Qaqortoq, Greenland! Enjoyed your video!!! :) :) :)
I’m a retired RN as well, wish I had quilting while I was working, it would have been a great destresserv
If you go to North Dakota…..go in the summer! 😂
my niece lives in ND, so i know. I have also been to SD and Montana and all the other states around it
As you, I cut as I go what needs to be done.
Love seeing your quilt tops hanging on your clothesline and blowing in the wind. Your chickenless salad quilt is lovely! AND it's time for me to do a tidy-up and finish-up of projects. I'm having to move things around to be able to work lol.
Thank you! 😊
Enjoyed today and the chicken salad quilt. Always a good time spent watching. You have so many projects going but always know where you are with them. I am not there yet, but hope to be. I am returning to quilting after about 10 years and boy is there a difference!
I never cut the whole quilt out at once. I’m also guilty of reading the pictures/drawings and not the words 😊
We celebrate our hardworking nurses with a whole week in May! 😊
Yes, according to my holiday calendar, today is Operating Room Nurse’s Day.
Your chicken salad quilt is so sweet! Love it.
Love Q and A Day!
There were three today that I noticed that the mid border was so effective it looked so demential! I haven't make mine yet but want to use colors that will show this 3d effect. Funny story about States, I live in the Texas Panhandle, the Oklahoma Panhandle lays at the top. I worked in Kansas and lived in Texas. My comute took me from Texas, to Oklahoma to Kansas. It took me less time to get to work than many people that live in Dallas! Hahaha! About 45 minutes for the 3 states.
Wow, your travels have brought you many places. I’m sure your memories are beautiful treasures. Your chicken salad quilt is so cute. Look forward to seeing the end luck. Thanks for sharing👍❤️😊
Loving the chicken salad quilt top - gorgeous
Love the chicken salad quilt!
I decided not to follow the cutting instructions for the same reason you would not use them. I pieced all my blocks first- changing fabrics along the way, arranged them in a manner that pleased me, then cut and added the pieced sashing. I would not have been able to tolerate those directional prints going every which way. I know it's a "busy" quilt but it wouldn't hide a 4.5 × 8.5" rectangle of inverted windows or kitchen decor! I am enjoying this quilt though. Thank you for reintroducing the sew a long.🤗
I love your hair Pat!
thank you!
Love visiting with you during your daily chats! I use my embroidery machine for edge-to-edge quilting on small projects like placemats, table runners, baby or lap quilts, etc. They look long armed but no waiting to get them to and from the spa.
Just got a postcard from Cathedrale DE Strasbourg. It would make a beautiful Quilt!
Hi Pat, this was nice. Thanks for sharing
@Pat Sloan Here's a question:
Do you ever use your clothesline for clothes?😂 or just quilts?
I like using a clothesline in the summer.
What a beautiful background with the autumn trees. The quilt turned out great!
Loved today’s episode… love you❤
thank you!
So enjoyed the chicken salad quilt ! It went together so easily. Thank you! I also did a scrappy binding for the first time. Turned out great.
I’m a little behind on my sewalongs. Gotta do last weeks blocks hopefully today. Time is getting away from me with holidays fast approaching. Enjoyed Q and A today. See ya online 😘
Just getting back from vacation and overslept and didn't catch the live chat today. I took some handwork with me and it was a very old quilt technique of folding the logs of fabric to create what's called a "manx" block. First time for this and thoroughly enjoyed the process.
Just finished a byannie ultimate travel bag and snipping a rag blanket love your videos
I embroider my quilt labels with my machine.
I use my embroidery machine mostly for edge to edge. I also use it for making a few quilts. It's fun, but you are right, there is a learning curve and it takes time. But heart continues to be with piecing.
Nurses Week is usually celebrated in early May. When did Nurses Day come about???
I love the chicken salad top
I love scrappy binding!
My quilting bubby is a nurse.
Thanks Pat!
That was fun, Thanks
Your hair looks really good today fits your face so nicely
❤❤❤
When you were talking about which fabric you would take to the island, I wondered about your past fabric lines and wondered if there is a line that you would like to see re-released?
I am all about 'new'!! I don't look back
Some of those Autumn blocks really look 3-D. Wouldn't a full quilt look fabulous?
they would!
I use my embroidery function to do edge-to-edge quilting on small projects like table runners and baby quilts. Walking foot quilting and straight line quilting is fine for a lot, but the edge-to-edge quilt patterns are fun. My longarmer charges a minimum. I like Amelie Scott and Designs by JuJu.
My comment is basically the same as yours. Love edge to edge and Designs by JuJu
Pat, have you made a Hawaiian quilt? Lots of beautiful appliqué there!
I have made a pillow years ago when i enjoyed doing lots of applique
Pat, I am anxious to k ow your plan for how big your borders will be. I want wider but not much longer??
Looking border size for Barn Star.
@@wendygeraldjaeger3910 I'm at the border stage with my Barn Star too. I don't really want my quilt to be much longer, but I do want it wider.
When you do a scrappy binding, do you measure each piece to be the same length or is it just scrap pieces?
no I never measure them
Fun Question: How many languages do you speak? What countries have you lived in
What do you do with all your starbucks cards after you use the credit?
Interesting question. What do you do with them? Are you looking for ideas or just curious?
Curious to know which part of Ireland did you visit and when was that?
we were in Killarny, Dublin, Waterford, Cove, and the cities around them. Do you live there?
Yes! I live 20 miles from Killarney. Where I live people aren't interested in crafts. Pity ye didn't get to Dingle you could have visited Holden's Leathers their bags are stunning and you can visit the workshop .Also in Dingle is Louis Mulcahy pottery. Maybe ye will visit again. Did ye do the Ring Of Kerry Tour?
