Just wanted to say thanks , I rebuild mustangs and equipment on my channel and started on a p71 project and I needed to know how the missing parts went together
I used to have a spotlight on my old police car, I used to get pulled over by this one cop constantly who was always insisting that I remove the light that it was illegal because it was considered emergency lighting! Me being the stubborn kid that I was at the time never took it off and he was threatening me that if he saw me with it again he was going to tear it off and smash it on The ground himself!!! We butted heads after this all the time to the point where I ended up moving out of my hometown because of him. over the years I have had many police cars with the spotlight on it and never had a problem.
That guy sounds like he may have had a chip on his shoulder - unless there's some kind of law against it in the local area. Usually spot lights aren't considered to be emergency lighting.
@@TheCopCar yes there was no local ordinance, he just made it up from the vehicle code because he said you're not allowed to have emergency lighting and he considered that to be emergency lighting. I've seen many a old police car around with the spotlight still on it, I believe you can order any car from the factory with one. I know you definitely could years ago.he did not know what he was talking about and just figured he would harass me
I have a retired cop suv with spotlight and wiring already installed, it just doesn't work. When I took it to the shop I asked them to check out the wiring and I think they said the wire must have been cut somewhere, but I followed the wire down through the dash (it heads towards the floor) and didn't see a cut anywhere. Do you have any tips or videos on troubleshooting these and how to get them working again?
Good DIY, but I don't have the plug for power. Do you know if that plug runs from the fuse box or directly to the battery, asking because I may just have to wire mine directly to one or the other. Thanks in advance.
The switch on my spotlight doesn't work. It's really loose and isn't allowing a good contact to keep the light on. Haven't tried to open it up to see if it's fixable, so any suggestions out there?
Is it absolutely necessary to separate both the spotlight and handle from the exterior shaft? Why not just leave one end on, such as the light for example and slide it through the hole together as one and skip the step of reassembling one end. Reason I’m asking is because I recently purchased a Unity spotlight myself for my crown Vic, and have been having trouble removing the light itself from the shaft. I’ve tried so hard with my hands alone to remove the exterior shaft until my hands began to bruise and I’ve attempted your flathead trick as you mention in your video to further separate it. I’ve tried heavy duty pliers and it still will not budge. It appears after closer examination, that there’s some substance on that end of the shaft, hidden from my view that perhaps is acting essentially as a cement to the point where no matter how much force I apply, it will not move or come off. So, my options appear to be either to just skip that step or to buy another light assembly. What do you suggest?
Great video , Have a Q , I have two spot lights on my 2011 I'm going remove and clean them up than reinstall them but how do you stop water interning do you put silicone around the shaft under the gasket. Thanks
Just installed a spotlight on my 06 Crown Victoria thanks to your video and it works great. Also I found another wire harness when I pulled the A pillar off that runs with spot light into the dash, does anybody know what this is or used to be?
what if i just wanna buy a brighter LED bulb for the spotlight? can i just install it or do i need to buy the whole set? cuz i have spot lights on but i just wanna upgrade to Strong LED ones cuz i have the basic single bulb light
Is there a way to change the angle of the spotlight handle? When on the highway I like to put my spotlight flush with the windshield for fuel economy and so it doesn’t flop in the wind, but that causes it to block my passenger side mirror, so is there a way to change the angle of the handle?
I don't have a ton of time in general. I work almost non-stop, with barely enough time to film videos when I actually have down time. If I end up with some free time, I'll let you know.
shouldn't you grease the inner shaft? Yours looks rusted up. I'd be tempted to clean it up and put some heavy duty synthetic grease on it before re-installing
Could I just remove the spotlight head without touching anything on the inside of a Tahoe? I just want to remove the lighthead. If i have to cut it off I dont care

I agree with @dirtyfred1 you'll probably need a new handle. You might be able to take it apart to see if there's something you can fix.
