  • Today on my first gen we show you how to convert all of the bulbs on the exterior and interior to LEDs from incandescent except for the headlights. We ran into a bit of an issue with the front marker lights but determined a workable solution. All LEDs were purchased from SUPERBRIGHTLEDs website. The LEDs are much brighter than the factory bulbs and bring this truck into this century.
    Stay tuned for more videos!

    I am late to the game, however, I did the full LED conversion back in November 2018 to my 1989 W250 and had my fair share of problems. Fortunately, I got help from another fellow First Gen owner and got my LEDs working. I know alot of people have issues when they do the conversion, so here is the method I used:
    - Used all Sylvania LED light bulbs for the exterior lights (except my Altitude Lighting headlights and my sidemarkers, which I will explain in a second) and a pair of LED Flasher relays
    - Initially had Sylania LED bulbs for the side markers, but it would affect both my turn signals and interior signal as well. To combat this, a non-polarized LED bulb was used
    - A pair of Sylvania Load Resistors were wires in series together, then in parallel to the side marker circuit (one end to the signal wire of the side marker, and the other to the ground of the turn signal
    Reason for this is the factory circuit utilizes a floating ground to flip the ground when the parking lights are off vs on (side marker flashes in sync with front turn signal when parking lights are off, and alternates when parking lights are on). May not be the correct way but it's so far a proven method, and hopefully useful to some!

      Exactly this. Since getting a bit more into electronics, I'm starting to understand what the issue was. I need to repair what I did in this video the way you have done it. There needs to be some sort of load resistor to mimic the factory bulbs. Yours now works entirely the way it should, but with LED bulbs? Thanks for the comment.

    Mine did the exact same when I replaced the tail lights to LED’s my turn signals wouldn’t work on it, my brake lights didn’t work, and my 4 ways didn’t work, put everything back to stock and it worked fine

    do you need to replace the flasher module thing if you upgrade to LED turn signals or can you leave the factory module?

    4:18 what part number to the bulbs to the cargo light

    So I recently did this to my 86 D350 (gasoline) and am having an issue. Curious if you ran into it. I also had to change the polarity on the fuse box (which doesn’t make much sense because it worked prior with halogen bulbs, maybe LEDs are backwards for some reason). Anyway, when I have the lights off, my hazards and turn signals work, but when I turn on the headlights or the DRLs, the blinkers and hazards stop working. Have any thoughts?

    I did this to my 91 w250. Wish I would have found your video first. My side markers don't illuminate at all unless I use my turn signal and my right rear brake light blinks with running/headlights on and turn signal indicating left turn. I'm thinking about adding load resisters and going back to regular flashers. Did you try any load resisters? I put regular bulbs in the front turn signal on one side and the side marker illuminated as it should. I'm wondering if their magic led flashers aren't the answer to led problems on these trucks.

      Yeah I still need to sort out the issues with my front side markers... haven't solved that problem yet.

  • @trevorseals6588
    @trevorseals6588 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you hook the relay up in place of the bulb (the coil poles get the 2 wires that usually go to the marker light) then it should work as it did from the factory

    • @trevorseals6588
      @trevorseals6588 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then pin 87 goes to the power side of the bulb and 30 goes to 12v

      This is for the side markers to work with LEDs? I need to try this...it's been on my list of things to fix.

    I tried LED's for my brake lights, but I didn't like the bright pinkish color that resulted. Went back to incandescent for my 1990 D250.

      Need to use Red LEDs. If you are getting a pinkish color, you're probably using white LEDs.

    Did you have problems with the LEDs making your whole electrical system freak out? I changed my side markers to LED and my dash started to spas out after a few weeks and my gages went wild, lights came on by themselves. I have a 1993 12 valve club cab 4x4...

      The only issues I had were the front marker lights, I still would like to find a solution so they flash full brightness when the headlight switch is off.
