    @chevyfan82 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

    I've got 2 8.1 gassers and love them they pull like freight trains. A duramax 8.3 would be sweet but is it needed? To be honest I see way too many people hauling way too big of loads for trucks. Anything much over 30-35k is where you really should be using a much heavier truck then a HD pickup. Will they haul yes, but anyone who has ever towed something much heavier than your tow vehicle knows what I'm talking about not all roads are smooth sailing. If a person can handle towing it's not a problem, but too many that think they can and end up in a heap of trouble. I'm all for more power but the tow ratings are getting to the point where a cap needs to be set. If not in a few years it will be 45k+ loads and if the trailer brakes go out on a long down grade that pickup truck is not going to hold it back. Definitely GM needs to bring back the solid front axle probably there biggest mistake was going IFS on medium and heavy duty trucks.

    I'm speaking for those who own diesel trucks, that us guys would like the newer trucks to be free of emissions that choke off the engines. I see that it costs thousands and the cost of the Def fluid, just more that the EPA wants to control us.

    • @btwbrand
      @btwbrand หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The only reason DEF is needed it to keep NoX emissions down. The only reason the NoX emissions are high is the power being produced is very high creating high temperature cylinder gasses. The only reason the power numbers are so high is because the big truck makers have been in a HP and Torque war since International put a turbo on the 7.3. The only reason the auto makers pushed for higher numbers is because that's what truck buyers voted for with their wallets.
      DEF is a consumer created problem. It's not an EPA created problem.
      Bigger engine making less power and you will not need DEF and you'll hit the noise and emissions requirements with todays injection control systems combined with a simple catalyst in the exhaust stream.
      Your request is only reachable with lower power and larger engines: the exact opposite of the high power smaller engine size that is being pushed across all manufacturers.

    • @AlexSimek1

    I'm a first timer, and just subscribed. I love diesels, but I own a '12 2500HD Ext Cab Silverado. I saw the "8.3", that's how I got here. Be easy on me, within the last year I heard GM was redesigning a gas engine to 8.3 LT. In GM confusing things, that's LT as in 1 step above the LS, like the 2 valve Corvette new(er) LT with better water jacket/more/higher flow, and a couple other improvements over the LS. 510 cu in, 600hp, 600 tq. That was at the time, then Ford came out with the big gasser w/i 6 months of that. If they took the old 500, applied the latest LS/LT tech, that would be perfect for me! Every day driver, 20 mpg big hp/tq, and it would be the standard engine for 2500/3500. With the 8 spd auto ZF and 4.11/4.56 it would be a respectable weekend tow rig also. My 6.0 LS w/6.auto and 3.71 tows quite well for what it is to start with. Just passing info. Peace --gary

    My prediction is that this may be another gm/navistar collaboration, the biggest complaint I hear from people on the navistar side is that there are essentially no options for their medium duty trucks like the MV series just the 6.7 cummins with a max hp option of 280 or something I believe. And the CV with the L5D is underpowered, so I think if the 8.3 is real it's going to be incorporated in the medium duty line up like the chevy 5500 and international MV/CV series trucks as an alternative for customers that want something with more power.

Our carbon footprint is cleaner than it’s ever been, and we’re out here screaming the planet has just a few more years to live… and I’m supposed to buy that? When, exactly what you’re saying about mining metals for batteries is a thing that’s overlooked anytime/everytime. It’s insane how people can’t put that together.

      @@Mattss90 Finally, someone who sees the forrest from the trees. I began my endeavor in the 90's studying the historical climate because what I was told in school was not aligning with what I knew prior to the indoctrination of the discussion in our school. I was tipped off further when I, by sheer chance, came across an article in a science paper in which studies were done by major universities that discussed what was coming out of exhaust pipes pre and post catalyst. They made it rather blatant point that particulate mass in the atmosphere was the issue in the 70's when the discussion was about smog, but the removall of so much of that mass will lead to something like a magnifying glass effect. They then discussed the amounts of greenhouse gases in depth. If memory serves correctly, the toxic gases are reduced, but that toxicity is relative to humans and not to atmospheric stability. In short, the catalytic converters lower the amount of gases and toxins that are dangerous to humans, but the cost is increased greenhouse gases leaving exhaust pipes. I remember the sun not being so hot on my skin and having winter every single year like clockwork in the midwest up until the early 90's down to having snow almost every halloween. we had 90's weather in the summer and even a few 3 digit days annually, but very few mild winters. Meaanwhile back at the ranch, countries like Ukraine, were too cold and undeveloped for ag, but they are now ag powerhouses and were made that way with helf from the good ol' USA. I always laughed when I heard the line on King of the Hill when Dale Gribble said "let the planet warm up. We'll grow oranges in Alaska.". I'm not laughing now when I know that one of the biggest issues humans face as the world poulation grows, is food shortages. I apologize for the diatribe but it's not every day that I get someone that doesn't rag on me for my thought process on this matter. If it is gov't and it's name ends in "agency" or "service" it's an unregulated company that needs no legislation to enforce its laws and rules and that is how the gov't has bypassed the constitution when it comes to what rights we supposedly have.

    I like my old 5.9. And even get along ok with the 6.7 which really didn’t add anything to it. Proper gearing on the transmission is the most important factor. Making all these bigger and badder motors that don’t really add any more capability if your needing something bigger get a 5500 or something. You can get a lot more weight moving way faster than breaks can control

    This reminds me of the muscle car wars for horsepower that the big three had in the 60s which was ultimately killed after 1970 by who other than the good ol’ EPA. If GM is looking for that next big bump, there’s no replacement for displacement!! My guess would be a price tag of 120K..

    If I wanted to drive a diesel I would be driving a T380 with a PX-9 set to 400 HP. Mate it with a Eaton 10 speed and Reyco suspension, you can drive it over a million miles. and a new one only costs 115K. With the costs of pickups, that would be a bargain.

    Might be cheaper to buy and own a semi. If you have the license of course.
    In my country I have seen people come in a semi to the supermarket, they park at the very end of the parking lot so they don't bother anyone.
    Here the average pick-ups are Hilux and L200, not even F-150's.

    Talking abut the 8.3 Isuzu right? I6 in a GM light truck sounds too good to be true. Why not just base it off the 7.8? Or is it? Isuzu been building decent engines long before partnering with GM. Now can they just step back up to a solid axle front??

    GM Needs a good competitor to the F450 Powerstroke HO, which is already 1200lb ft. I have a Duramax and I like it, but would have to upgrade to F450 higher trim for some work. also all of the power strokes are much more comfortable than any of the GM/Chevy versions. We want something nicer than the 4500, if you do it, we can stick with GM. If not, we’re going to go over to Ford probably
