    If anyone out there has a right hand drive model: the access to the cabin air filter is still on the right hand side of the car (as shown in video) - so it is under the steering wheel as opposed to under the glove box. I just changed it on my right hand drive 1997 e36. You'll need to undo three screws in order to take the panel off that's under the steering wheel, then start pulling it back from the middle of the car (there's clips on the panel closest to the door, if you peel the panel from the center they'll unclip and allow you to take the panel off). There's a little electrical connection and light, both of which you can unclip from the panel once you've got it loose, in order to fully remove the panel and take it out of the way. Then you'll be able to see the cabin air cover with the round knob that you turn in order to take the air filter out. It's pretty easy, just like in this video, but on the other side of the car.

    Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I just watched about 6 videos and I'm going to follow yours, I don't think removing the whole glove box is necessary as your video proves it. For those who need to the filter replacement, a good inexpensive filter is MANN FILTER CU 2835

    Thank you for a really helpful video. I changed my cabin air filter right after watching your video and was horrified to find my old filter was (almost) as jammed up and filthy as yours! Now my A/C works much better. It's not a particularly difficult job, but it is really tough to get into position to see what one is doing. Thanks again.

    It's super easy on my e90 335i. And yes, it took me hours to try to remove it on the e36 until I found this video. LOL thanks man. That filter is freakin dirty! But the car looks clean! Do you still have the e36?
    I'm trying to make the glove box door stop creaking. It's annoying the hell out me.

    Fantastic! I just re-gassed my A/C as the interior of my E36 Coupe never got nice and cold. Living in Queensland (Australia) temps here hit the 40's (Celsius-over 100 Farenheit) all throughout summer. It turned out re-gassing didn't make much difference. As soon as I saw the video (I watched the whole thing) I went to my car, took off the panel as described, and took the 'lid' off my cabin filter. I never knew it was there! My filter was EVEN WORSE than in the video. It was fully choked up, and a pile of leaves and twigs fell out. I tried the fan (with no filter - I need to buy a new one now) and was 'BLOWN AWAY' (hahahaha) by the difference. I even feel the cold air from the back seat now! I can't wait for the drive to work tomorrow so I can be one of those cars with the windows UP in the sweltering temps. BEST VIDEO EVER!!!!! and cheap and easy!!. Everyone should know about this - in any make of car. Thanks.

    FYI the filter frame is designed to snap into 3 segments,, and bend at those joints slightly. This allows you to install it slowly and bend around the items in the way. Thats why the filter was in pieces when you removed. you pull out the 3 segments . The filter frame will hold it together when pressing it back in.

    Great tutorial except the part where you need to get off that electrical plug you really need to push hard towards the top with a long metal thing (example flat screwdriver)
    then it's not easy to put it back as this place is hard to seee lol i was constantly flipping myself what a hard place to work on (and put a decent lighting i wonder how you filmed that haha

    Help...Heat/air is not going to feet when i switch the climate control to feet. It feels like the flap that closes and open is stuck closed (if there is such a thing) or could it be a bad electrical connection for the control to the feet area? Control works fine switching to face and windshield area. Any idea how to fix it?

    Swapping the filter was easy, putting everything back into place is the hard part. I ended up losing the plastic screw that bolts into the air duct but it probably won't move around since everything is packed so tightly under that cover

    • @loserfantasia
      @loserfantasia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Putting that plastic bolt in place is the absolute hardest part, I don’t even think it’s possible without pulling the entire glove box out

      Not sure what year make and model you have but this is a 1997 BMW 328is Coupe. Your specific car may not have a filter in this location. Some filters, like you said, are location underneath the cowl under the wiper blades. I’m quickly finding out that not all cars have a cabin air filter especially older ones

      @@AutOdometer I've since found out that my UK spec RHD E36 has 2 of the round type cabin filters which are located under the scuttle (as we call it) beneath the wiper linkage. The rectangular type is for cars with aircon (mine does NOT have aircon). I'll be replacing my cabin filters at some point so I'll be featuring it in a future video.
