2020 Mazda 2 1.5 Hatchback Facelift Review in Malaysia, RM100k for 2 Airbags?! | WapCar

  • The 2020 Mazda 2 Facelift 1.5 SkyActiv saw the price of this little B-segment hatchback skyrocket to above the RM 100k mark - for a B-segment hatchback!
    Safety kit remains the same as the pre-facelift model which boggles the mind because there are only 2 airbags. In a market where the Perodua Axia has autonomous emergency braking, it is quite difficult to justify the Mazda 2.
    However, if you look at the Mazda 2 purely based on the spec sheet alone, the Mazda 2 does not make sense. So, who would buy the Mazda 2 then? Watch on to find out.

    I use the shifting stick more often than the paddle shift ... because I think Mazda placement of shifting stick purely induce spirited driving (the downshift is push forward rather than backward, this is a very right decision!) . AND the shifting with stick is so ergonomic and natural because mazda put sensors on human body to analyze the best posture and movement for shifting when driving.
    i heard from somewhere that this car assembles the closest driving experience to the icon MX-5 in mazda line up due to its smallest size..
    yes i agree not everyone can afford a RM103k car (thanks to exercise duty) and not everyone will agree with it's price to value CP ratio. if you are the one who love driving and still want this car perhaps secondhand mazda2 is your choice. But u gotta take some calculated risk and do studies about second hand first before getting one.
    To Adrian, I totally feel you. I was shocked that quite some number of motor journalist own a mazda 2. I somehow think that mazda 2 is a car that can ignite the passion of motoring within people. I would like to know more about your stories with Ikuo Maeda san
    I had been watching lots of video about Mazda design philosophy and concept to appreciate my car more.

    the adrenaline rush when driving it spiritedly , "you won't even care if it doesn't come with airbag" LOL SAME , ... haha (2 airbag is due to the legal regulation in Malaysia haha) , but still gotta be rational because I think airbag plays crucial role in reducing injury during the impact to steering wheel generated from crash.
    rational and emotional is always the polar. just like the soft and hard suspension. we can have both with some 'linkage' such as good chasis ie.TNGA. or tune it to the fine balance between sport and comfort, just like proton ride and handling..

    I see the tradeoff here, with similar price, Indonesian model got the cruise control although no more leather seat on the top spec and getting Fabric instead(we call it "GT" here). It is interesting to know why Mazda Malaysia opt out from Cruise Control and getting Leather seat instead ? Are the competitors also missing out on cruise control ? For comparison here in Indonesia, most competitors(Jazz, Yaris, Baleno) still retain fabric seat, so it is a reasonable choice for Mazda Indonesia. Although, I want to put the OEM leather seat to my 2020 model Mazda 2, the dark blue-ish colour looks really cool.

    • @Rizqi1010
      @Rizqi1010 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also I think the Malaysian model is missing all the sensors (Blind Spot Monitoring, RCTA, Rain Sensing Wiper and maybe the light sensor for auto headlight ?) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these are harder to retrofit than leather seat although not essential when you are driving the car.

    • @WapCar

      Most top-spec B-segment cars in Malaysia comes with leather seats, hence the Mazda 2 is on par with the competition on that front

But I chose mazda2 becoz of the rear disc brake( Susah B segment nak ade rear disc brake). Kalau compare low spec Mazda2 vs low spec vios/city/jazz - mazda2 menang la for me. As compared to honda civic 1.5 turbo, honda jazz...u can't compare the fuel efficiency in mazda
    But once u reach out 140-145km/j, u lost the torque as compared to honda civic, and the car somewhat "unstable" when drive above 160km/j as compared to honda civic

In my opinion, adding another RM9k (95K+9K= RM104K) for all the new goodies and its new design new head & taillights, I dare to say it's WORTH the price to pay for. Mazda is trying to keep costs down by lowering variety. This is a city cruiser and not really made for high acceleration.
      They even tried something similar with the 115hp 6-speed version with the previous model. It just didn't sell enough to warrant the additional cost.
      I currently own a 2017 90hp and am absolutely fine with the power output. I have to admit I'll probably be adding a 2019 MX5-RF to my Mazda 2 because I want more fun driving around.

      I guess depends on region and market needs.Many factors i guess, as of RM103k in malaysia offering, u can get C segment cars with full of airbags, better performance. In this level n segment they should make it more affordable or otherwise. Make ppl think twice y should choose mazda2 than c segment.
      Moreover to make it cheaper, there is no 70-90PS offering here. Again if it does it won't sell considering there are couple of good offering from other brands in these segment. High performance good safety n lower price

    Maaza should move on with their 6sp gearbox. I have driven lots of mazda cars and their gear changing character is always kinda 'slow' and makes the engine rev a lot. It makes the engine scream like hell which is not a good thing unless it's a v8 or v10. My 5 years old bmw 8sp zf is way smoother and lighting faster and even the Honda City's cvt feels more effortless than my friends new mazda 2 when I tested. Just hate the gb character. Nevertheless it has the best cabin and quality compared to other b segments

    • @WapCar

    • @zhi8970
      @zhi8970 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GB logic actually works perfectly if you drive on the faster side of the road. I drove very spirited (getting runs and more) bmw and vw, all these so called great gearbox is always 1 to 2 gears too high. Especially the vw. So everytime you want a quick acceleration, the GB has to downshift few gears. I used to think the draggy nature of the GB is annoying on highway and I tried to manually control the shifts. guess what, I realise it’s the right logic. When I shift manually, I would also drag the gears a bit, keeping the car on lower gear and sweet spot of the power band. As a driver, I rather have noisier driving experience than slow and unpredictable response. Not saying that the GB is perfect and always shifts perfectly, but it the least annoying GB for spirited drivers.
