I don't know what to do 🤔😔
I bought a 2021 model Mazda 2. A good car but the flat external review windows don't give me confidence that I can see as much traffic around me as the convex mirrors on my Getz did. The blind spot makes me nervous sometimes when changing lanes as the design and thickness of the rear quarter panel on the blind side obscures the driver's vision more so than my Getz.
I have been looking at reviews of both the Mazda 2 and Kia Picanto as a city drive for my wife. There are differences in equipment but to find rear drum brakes on the Mazda and rear discs on the Picanto spells cost cutting to me. As you commented on, no centre armrest at that price point again speaks of cheap. So far, I can't make up my mind. 5 year warranty - 7 year warranty. Maybe in future reviews you could comment on servicing costs?
@@sidwhittington9846 I got my wife the Kia Picanto GT line for my wife and it is ideal for her local driving. As you say brilliant for city driving but it is painful on a longer run.

I don't understand cars in this segment. If you only have $22k to $27k to spend on a car, why not get a second hand one for much better value? Like are there even any downsides? A 2 year old Mazda 3 would have all the specs this car has, plus more (electronic park brake etc), for the same or cheaper price! If you want low operating costs, the corolla has gone hybrid since 2016, it's capped servicing price is $155 less than Mazda2, and you get $100 rebate on road tax in Victoria. Overall annual saving of $600, use it for 10 years and you save $6000, a quarter of your purchasing price.

I'm a littel disappointed on what you get on the Mazda 2. For about $5k more, you can get the CX3 top spec that has AWD and 2.0L engine just to highlight some points that value for the upgrade (there is ALOT more than those two on a CX3). I like a small car as I live near the city bt have to travel outside Sydney to visit family and want at least the power, performance and comfort to come with it. I am not buying a car as at now but in around 2/3 years, will get a 2020 model.
I bought a brand new Mazda 3 SP25GT in 2016 and had all the same issues back then. Wind noise. Always thought I had a window cracked open. Imitation leather seats that are uncomfortable on long drives. And don't forget, this is a GT. The GT for the price should of received a centre armrest both for the front and rear.
True, though it's very much a factor of the precipitous fall in the value of the AUD compared to the THB over the last 2-3 years. What was meant to be a cost-saving decision based on the free trade agreement has turned a little sour due to currency depreciation.

Very good point, even if we prefer the driving dynamics of the lower hatch!
Mazda should bring this car back to the states. Not everyone wants an SUV.
You CAN - buy it in
Puerto Rico (USA province) -
be transported to FL=
500-750 dollars
It WILL pass US regulations
I bought a brand new Mazda 3 SP25GT in 2016 and had all the same issues back then. Wind noise. Always thought I had a window cracked open. Imitation leather seats that are uncomfortable on long drives. And don't forget, this is a GT. Why do car makers think your back seat passengers are 4 foot high contortionists that have armour plated arses. Don't get me started on i-stop. What pimply headed, pen pushing desk flyer came up with that one.
Sounds unhappy with your car? Would you like other model in Mazda?
@@kylielee9214 No thanks. I've bought a Hyundai Santa Fe. No i stop and a full size spare tyre. Space savers should be illegal.
Ditch the five door setup , i want three door
Great review John, with so many other cars in the market offering better value and appeal the Mazda 2 is way over priced @ $27,000.
For example?
You may say that but if your an automatic convert these days which i am, with so much more traffic on the road here in the UK weighing up all the dubious alternative auto box versions out there ; you really cant beat the old tried and tested torque convertor boxes that this has!
Expensive. Fun to drive car but is not a typical family grocery shopping car. It’s too small on truck space. Got a Honda City in my region instead.
Chuck the back seats down and enjoy double the space. It's a small car, it has to have some short comings.
It has been suggested to me to change my honda jazz .2018 plate too but this, But for me, the overall shape, and design is a letdown. Excellent video but sorry not impressed, so not sure which to buy yet.
The new yaris makes this look old tho
True! - but new Yaris is still a while off.
@@chasingcars yes ik can't wait for your review on it
Looks like a Fiesta merged with a K13 Micra.
You should buy Mazda 2 2019 model or wait few more years because they will maybe make a crossover between the Mazda 2 and Mazda cx3
I own the 2019 Mazda2, the cabin is so noisy you would think you forgot to close the windows if you don't have music on.
Refinement is better in the larger 3, for sure.
I have a 2017 model. First month of ownership, I have twice stopped the car, got around to the hatch to make sure it was closed. It was THAT bad!! Adjusting the catch did not help. Very disappointing.
Sorry, I find the Toyota version (Yaris) very quiet except in heavy rain or on gravel.
That is just not true. I have Mazda 2 and VW polo both 2019. And they are both quiet the same. I also measured DB and Mazda is even slightly better.
That’s strage. I own a 2018 Mazda2 and road noise in the cabin is not that tragic. A lot of B-segment cars have much loudier cabins
3:16 Those Green Socks on my HRD10+ monitor on full screen mode ! Dude, you're a presenter, you could have avoided those socks.
The socks are cool. - Editor Tom
Another great review, thank you. However for that money, I'd buy an ASX.
Thanks, John.
John Boxall the asx is even older
a BL OR BM 3 if it has to be Mazda with automatic and alarm from a car warehouse.if not then say a Corolla or a C12/C17 Pulsar or late model Impreza or I30 OR Cerato if one can be found the same way for way less.nothing earlier than a 2014-2016 where possible or at the latest a 2017.
Way to expensive, I would brought one new if they were still 17k, don't care about the other features, I only would pay for reserve camera and cruise control but I could get that added later
I have a 2012 one
where is tom baker
Always here, Tech Mech.
Fighting the Daleks, I think.
Better of getting a Mazda 3 at this price
It’s getting that way. Just avoid the base 3 with that below-par plastic steering wheel...
@@chasingcars seek out places like Easy Auto 123 for a mid spec most likely a maxx or maxx sport second generation or if lucky third generation model for thousands less than an entry level 2.if you add on whatever they charge for an alarm which is about $795 for a decent one and you are miles out in front in terms of overall costs.i have seen prices on much later ones than my 2008 Maxx.a really nice one in the four to twelve year old range is anywhere after depositing but adding on the alarm and putting it on the road is around the thirteeen to sixteen grand mark.I might sound cheap but I would not drive any kind of light car for my own safety.
1:34 Guys fingers looks like the salad fingers guy
Japanese absurdity, the car looks modern and inside it is a 2015 model. It loses to all cars in this segment in terms of equipment. No armrest, no electric handbrake. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping. These are 4 reasons why I won't buy it.
Good looking but terrible value. For 27K a corolla hybrid sedan is much better. Fuel consumption is 35% better, larger boot, more spacious rear seating. I haven't seen another car without a centre console tbh.
Just a shame those lower-spec Corolla sedans look so dowdy! The top-spec ZR sedan, frustratingly petrol only, looks the business.
@@chasingcars scouring a second hand yard for anything in the next class above is better than any of these new age light cars.Chances are it might be a 2013 to 2016 version of a small car or if lucky a 2017 with low mileage for age and you have to add on alarm and the like but you'll get something safe and half decent for way less.I look at all these people who buy this class of car and think in a few years time you'll be lucky to get out for anywhere between 35% and 45% of original prices new.
Il motore va tirato quando si fanno i test....
I have a 69 plate Mazda 2 and its the worst car I have ever owned. the car is too light and bobbles and shakes on the road, car has been checked and it has no faults. Its dangerous to use the screen when driving as all the controls are between the seats. Do yourself a favour and buy something else, especially if you suffer with travel sickness. A total waste of money.
when you review a car, don't put a comparison in it. Review a car for what it is.
For me..... Volkswagen polo is a much better choice
I just sold my one year old top spec Mazda 3 SP25 with only 6,000 kms for AUD25k.
Lot of car for that price!
I do love the Mazda product but they really messed this up. Both this and the CX3 are manufactured in Thailand for us so other than Mazda Australia’s greed..... for the age of the car the price never should of been stacked up so much.
FIRST!
Hi John 👋
It's a party in the comment thread already!
Worth 12990 driveway. Looks cheap and mazda don't make reliable cars anymore. Add to that refusing warranty claims until you scream blue murder, then make sure your car is poorly treated and returned worse than when you leave it for fixes. I bought my mazda in 2016 and looking forward to updating to a Hyundai or Kia. My first mazda IS my last.
Lol what are you talking about not reliable anymore. Mazda 2 is in top 5 in reliability, and Mazda 6 and Mazda mx5 is in top position
Nice but rather have the polo. Mazda’s infotainment is abominable!
Would be great if they gave it the Mazda 3's new infotainment at some point. Next generation, I suppose.
Letting a car go only about the infotainment? That's a real shame.
Polo sucks in every way
that money, get a base civic
The Civic is a far better car, in fact a Honda Jazz is a far better car.
Over priced.
We miss Ed Sheeran.
I'm here, in the comments. -Ed
