    Your work is lovely. Always love your podcasts! Your stitch in the crochet basket is a US single crochet. When you yarn over before you go in an pick up another, you will have a US half-double or double depending on whether you pull through all at once or two at a time.

      And in the UK, it would be called a double crochet, so I imagine that's likely what it would be called in Australia as well?

    You do beautiful work, and everything looks lovely on you. The Magnolia Bloom and the color are stunning. Your Narragansett looks fabulous. The good news is that you have the figure to show it off. There's a few ways you could style it & coordinate it with other items. Of course, you will make the final decision as to its fate. Hope you have a wonderful holiday 😊

    Your Magnolia Bloom is a stunner and looks terrific on you! I love your new segment about pieces that didn't quite make the grade for whatever reason. (I finish things too....love the closure.) I'm so touched by the fact that you wear the socks you made for your dad....very sweet. I knit a sweater for my dad in 1973 (!) which I got back after he died. I just gave it away to my best friend, for whom it's a better fit and he knew my dad. Knitting is so much more than stitches and garments.

    The Magnolia Bloom is gorgeous! The color is so rich & complex, and looks good on you. I was on vacation last week and came across a yarn store that carried Knitting for Olive, which I’ve been wanting to try after seeing all the lovely projects you have used it in. I plan to make an Oslo hat using Merino & Soft Silk Mohair in the blue tit colorway.

    Made me chuckle - you get ‘substantial’ leave for teaching service…Last year I completed my 25th year teaching Chemistry in UK. My long service ‘award’?! ONE DAY off!! And I still have to plan all the missed lessons😂 I’m still really looking forward to it but it’s really interesting to see how much more Aussie teachers are valued than British teachers. Brilliant podcast, as always. I’m currently knitting the Wool&Berries after you inspired me a few weeks ago! 🥰

    To make a crocheted item stand up perpendicular to the base, the circumference of the sides needs to be equal to the circumference of the last increase on the base. The basket is kind of like a bucket hat upside down. There is also a product I've used called "Stiffen Quik" that will make something stand up instead of flopping over. I used it on Organza to make a crown of upright "flames" for a costume.

    Tash, I am relatively new to your channel and thoroughly enjoying your creative journey. In the discussion of your Jupiter sweater you said you’ll be blocking the yoke before separating for the sleeves. I was hoping you might share your approach to determining when to separate for the sleeves and if you almost always block your yoke at this point. To me determining the right depth of the yoke is one of the important decisions in the construction of a top down yoke sweater. Many thanks. Debbie

      @mostlyknitting  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Debbie - thank you for the request to touch on this concept. I'll be sure to talk about that in an upcoming podcast. I do usually block at this point, especially if i think it is going to grow. :)

    As always, I love seeing all of your projects and progress. I’ve made some crochet baskets very similar to yours, patterns by Rebecca Langford. You use something called plastic canvas that you cut to size and then fold the material over to form the firm basket sides. It looks like plastic cross-stitch material. She has excellent tutorials also!

    Your single crochet stitch is too limp for a basket. A much smaller hook for tighter work makes for a firmer fabric.Thick and tight is good. I use a wire hoop at the edge of the circle base, (crochet around it and then straight up. I make lots of these and often just a big flat circle will use up a lot of scraps quick making a fun throw rug. Love the new sweater, it inspired me to buy purple yarn and the pattern.

    Your Magnolia Bloom turned out beautiful! I don't think I would have ever noticed any colour difference if you hadn't mentioned it. For your grey sweater - if you were willing to frog it I think it would turn into a lovely oversized slipover especially with the addition of mohair. Maybe a dark grey? I have been wearing mine a lot with either a fitted long sleeve t-shirt or a button up shirt underneath.
    Peititeknit (Kimmi Munkholm) also has a tutorial for button holes in a double knit button band without cutting the yarn. I used it and it's perfect!

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks so much Ursula. That is so interesting that Petite Knit has a video on this, but still has one up for the Chamagne Cardigan where you cut the yarn. I agree that this sweater could look lovely oversized with a mohair. But i fear i would run out of yarn as 4 skeins is not a lot of yarn in this base....

    • @oldwitchknits-Ursula

    Interesting yout talk about the tubular bind off. I did a tubular bind off for the first time and decided for the yarn I was using, it wasn't worth the time. So did cuffs and hem with regular bind off. The same decision you are making.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It can be a really nice choice for a smooth yarn. And i like it for a yarn held with mohair. But for this yarn held double, i think the regular bind off will look nicer. I think at some point i will go back and change the neckline. :)

    As for the Narragansett knit I thought it looked fine on you. Firstly you do like the yarn but if you really can't be bothered to unwind the yarn I would put it out to someone and gift it. Have the person pay for the postage. Life is too short, moving it on to another knitter and just focus on all your lovely knits that you are excited to cast on. Go girl! The Magnolia looks splendid!

    Your episode today has cheered me up. I'm travelling for nearly 3 months away from NZ throughout Europe, England and Canada and only been away for 3 weeks. Airlines have lost our bags twice now, and today I'm hiding in my accommodation while the clothes I travelled in dry.
    Hopefully the bags arrive before the next leg of our trip. Thankfully I have knitting with me 😊 What would l do without some knitting to do?

    I think you could wear the grey Thea Colman sweater with a scarf around your neck. A scarf in a colour that you think does suit you. I'm not sure how it would look with short sleeves and it is worsted. Perhaps shorten it as well. Thanks for a great podcast.

    I hope you have an easier time buying a new vehicle than I did. I started looking in March. Was hoping to test drive in June. There were no vehicles on the lots of the type I wanted and it is a 500 km trip to the nearest town thst has car dealerships. Ended up having my h7sband sit my friends toyota 4 runner to see if that would work, went to town in june and otdered the vehicle. I don't know if it has come in yet, but in August the dealership had one thst someone else didn't yakecwhen it came.. May have been job problems. Wasn't the colour I ordered but we got it. PHEW! My h7dband is in his 80's and no longer driving and I had 2 old vehicles to get go town to trade in.. Thank goodness for grown children. Am loving my new vehicle, but 7 months to get a nee vehicle.

    Crochet bag, I think if it's crochet in a tighter gauge ( smaller hook ) it will stand up by its self. Than it will be a basket.

    Hi Tash. Tks for your fun and informative podcasts. With your boat neck, negative ease jumper I think shortening it and the sleeves is a good idea as then you would not need to wear anything under it. Just one thing, would it be too hot to wear in weather where you would have short sleeves? Would elbow length or 3/4 be better. Can’t remember what you said about the yarn base. As I live 400km North of you, I would only want cotton, silk or linen in a short sleeved top. Hope you can resurrect it.

    • @mostlyknitting

    Just a thought - I think the gray sweater color is not bad on you - I think you should frog it and make a V-neck so the color is not quite as close to your face and crop it - I think you could wear it over a button up white shirt or even a vest or slip over as you call them, would look beautiful over a white crisp linen shirt.
