    I really wish when you released the book, you get a free code for dnd beyond. limit it to five uses or something. that way you can get both the physical book plus put it on your computer, laptop, iphone and ipad. You want to sell more books, this is how you do it.

    • @DavidsonMoslak
      @DavidsonMoslak ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dndbeyond has you make an account so you can sign in on any device I believe and have access to whatever you've unlocked. Also it says on the website something about your friends not needing to buy the books also that they have a way to share apparently between both of your dnd beyond accounts. I haven't used it much tbh but that's what I've read

      Wotc has bundle deals for a digital code voucher for dndbeyond and a physical copy of the book as well for pre-ordering through them or their approved vendors

      Through one of their approved vendors*
      sorry for that lol

      The issue is the products are rarely released as sealed products, so people could just take the code without buying it.
      Then there's also the case where someone could buy it and return it.
      Just an idea: it would be nice if they did sealed versions, as bundle/deluxe editions, that maybe contained some extra stuff (handouts/dice/minis) inc. a redeem code for dndbeyond.
      Then we have the unsealed product for people to flick through in store before they buy, and a bundle version they can buy that still supports that store.

    As a DM I would advise anyone who wants to run an adventure to not choose the newest one. Older adventures have huge Communities that talk about the critical points and shortcommings of the adventure and offer support and can stimulate your own creativity. The newest doesnt have that yet. So I think it could be overwhelming if your getting lost in it or need Help with Something.

      If your group hasn't played it yet. Always go for Curse of Strahd. There's not a leaf of grass in that adventure without discussion about it in the subreddit

      The first part of this book, Lost Mine of Phandelver, is actually the oldest 5e campaign! It was in the first Beginner Set. It is also one of the most praised.

      This probably makes this one, one of the best books to start with because of this point; LMoP has so many community resources for DMs by now

    • @timosamannshausen9513
      @timosamannshausen9513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CorrosiveCitrus I agree with you that the first half can be easily supported by the LMoP community. But I see a problem for new DM's in regards of the transition phase between the LMoP-Part and the later adventure and the foreshadowing and an plothooks for the second half. You will probably have a bad awakening in the second half if you run it with the help of the LMoP communitiy without taking your time to weave the new plot in. But i could be wrong about that. I am nonetheless stoked for the release on the 19.

    I've tried running LMoP with 4 of my friends some time ago and the Cragmaw Hideout in the beginning of the game resulted in a TPK. It seemed very likely that at least one player would die, having in mind the low health pool of the players and the number of opponents. How are 4 lvl 1 characters supposed to beat 15 goblins, 1 bugbear and at least 1 wolf?
    According to the rules both in the DMG and XGtE, some of the encounters there go way beyond deadly. Let's take the 4 characters group of lvl 1 as an example. An encounter would be deadly to them if the total monster XP reaches 400. In the Goblin Den there are 6 goblins * 50 XP = 300 XP. With the multiplier of 2 that totals 600 XP which makes that encounter alone 1.5 times deadlier than the "deadly" in the DMG (p. 82). Klarg's Cave is even worse with a total of 700 XP.
    Not only that, but the expected XP for an adventuring day for that group of characters would be 1200 XP (DMG p. 84). The Goblin Arrows and the Cragmaw Hideout combined total 2500 XP which is also an overkill.
    How is that whole thing supposed to work? Especially for brand new players and DMs like us? Either (1) the monsters should be severely weakened/their numbers lowered, (2) the characters should be initially buffed or (3) the group of players should consist of at least 8 lvl 1 characters for the difficulty level to be less than deadly as per the DMG.

      The players have a lot of opportunity to sneak around and get suprise on the goblins, the sound from the water stream aids in that a lot. When suprised the goblins will probably be tightly grouped for an aoe spell, like burning hands.
      The goblins are use to the chained up wolves being loud with each other and will typically ignore them barking at the players.
      The goblins in the den with Yeemik will only fight until the players get the upper hand, thenYeemik interrupts the fight to bargain with the players to defeat klarg. This could be a good opportunity for the players to get a short rest while also not having to waste their resources killing every goblin.
      If they instead kill them and manage to rescue sildar, they have an extra ally to fight klarg with.
      Klarg will run away if his wolf is killed, and likely the other goblins with him will run when he runs or is killed.
      It's a tough dungeon for level 1 characters, but it is supposed to be; it's the first miniboss. If you are playing with new players who won't understand the tactics, and maybe they haven't thought about sneaking around, you can pull your punches with the goblins and have them be extra uncoordinated and cowardly.

      @@CorrosiveCitrus Thanks for the extensive reply. I'll underline the possibility for a surprise the next time we play.
      I was also thinking of removing the shields from the goblins (hence lowering their AC to 13) and making their dmg 1d6 instead of 1d6 + 2. Effectively these changes would turn the goblins to CR 1/8 monsters instead of 1/4. This should lower their adjusted XP and put the encounter difficulty below deadly.
      Do you think these changes would make the encounters unnecessary easy though?

    • @CorrosiveCitrus
      @CorrosiveCitrus ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@kredik5796 I would say the best way to make it easier is to use "bad" tactics. Have at least half the goblins that the players are engaged with at the time run into melee range of the closest character (they would still have their shield, though keep in mind any that are using bows won't benefit from their shield, and have limited places to hide mid-combat in the small rooms of the cave). Any bow goblins that are cornered won't have enough time to drop their bow, pull out their sword, AND don their shield, and you could also just say they don't even have a sword on them (or they are too frightened to think about drawing it, and instead continue to use their bow at melee range at disadvantage).
      There is also the added benefit to the players that the melee engaged goblins can provide them with half cover against the ranged ones (and if that half-cover leads a ranged goblin to miss, you could have the miss actually hit the back of the melee goblin).
      Goblins strength lies in their ability to attack from range and then get out of sight, but playing them this way instead makes them way less challenging (and it's also how the adventure tells you to play the first goblin ambush before the hideout).
      If they only target the front ranks of the players, the squisher spell casters are free to heal and deal damage from afar. Though don't focus all the damage onto one character, as if they go down early, it will sway the action economy into the goblins favour (though do remind the players, if they do go down, if they heal any hit points they will become concious again).
      On top of that, don't roll their damage when your players are level 1 and just take the average. Rolling damage is too swingy at level 1. If you're rolling to hit behind the DM screen and roll a crit... maybe just turn it into a regular hit unless the players are doing particularly well so far, or it's during the fight with Klarg (I wouldn't hold back as much during the fight with Klarg unless you absolutely need to, and make full use of the cover and range, but still use average damage). Always remind the players they can run.
      If they go to town before killing Klarg, but after rescueing Sildar, they could rest up, and go back, with Sildar, as Sildar wants the route to Phandalin to be safe (His mission is to bring Phandalin to prosperity). The goblins may have had some time to set some new traps, but 1 night isn't enough time for them to get reinforcements from cragmaw castle. Perhaps one of the living goblins could be missing, and then return with a small group of reinforcements as the players are leaving the 2nd time (at which point they've hopefully cleared the remainder of the hideout and reached level 2).
      If you still need to bring the difficulty down, you can always have the players level up to level 2 halfway through the hideout. Or at the start of the adventure, you could have a priest cross paths with the party on the road, perhaps on the way to Neverwinter, just before they turn off and get amushed, and have that priest cast Aid on the party, giving them 5 extra HP, which counts as normal HP rather than temp HP for healing purposes too.
      You can even just start at level 2 if you really wanted.

    you should always use one shots for new players
    this isn't a one shot, it will take multiple sessions
    it also tries to be high fantasy but it's closer to low or mid
    it's a good introduction to the Blue from 3.5 so you got Psionics to play with
    I think the biggest flaw is the dungeons only have one way in
    so if one or more patrols return to the dungeon the players are trapped
    that and the enemy has no way to escape so they basically fight to the death
    no idea why glass has a fireball, his room is to small
    rath place an explosive rune on paper that looks like a scroll or give him gaseous form to escape even so a 6d6 is kinda like an insta kill
    gobs are also under equipped even though they got crates of stolen equipment

      @CorrosiveCitrus ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wulfgold True, but the nice thing about the open web is we don't need to care about youtube disabling it, we can see it anyway.
      The combination of it being embedded, the 4 total dislikes logged on return youtube dislikes (many videos released just 10 mins ago even already go way beyond 4 dislikes), the lack of likes, and the lack of comments,and a DM video on top of that, shows that it's likely the majority of view count is from dndbeyonds homepage. This is also combined with the fact that out of the few comments here, there's barely a negative thing said, and the general overall reception so far about Phandelver and below from the community has been very positive.
