Just discovered your channel, you are great. Just the perfect amount of in depth detail. Also glad to see Acer address the god awful hinges of past nitro laptops.

    • @lhommeaudacieux
      @lhommeaudacieux ปีที่แล้ว +1

I do not see the issue. Had mine for just about 4 years now and have absolutely 0 issues with the hinge which granted was always a little spongy, but durability is perfectly fine. Had another Acer 5 Nitro for 5 years before that which also had 0 issues. (Until accidentally got a drop of water on it which killed it in actually quite spectacular fashion. Not kidding, it was exactly a drop left over in my beard after showering and that was enough to instantly short out the motherboard)

@@lhommeaudacieux if I could reply with an image I would. Picture a hinge basically busting out of the plastic casing of your laptop. That's the old nitro 5 design. Love it still to this day, has a shite 1050. Shite hinge, shite screen, both I upgraded. But damn is it flawed

Acer is the biggest scam arround. High ping during games, freezing hard drive. You bring it to their clown repair service, takes 3 months to change the whole motherboard. Once the warranty is off, the motherboard breaks again. And ask a repair price abive the whole Pc price! INSANE SCAM THOSE ACER! This garbage brand should be illegal imo!

My Nitro is 15-57 too with i711800H, rtx 3050 24gigs ddr4 . Performance is great, the temp NEVER reaches 100 degrees and the battery is horrible - about hour and a half. Your advices are truly useful, thank you 🙂.

way better than other "review" channels, where they just run some random test softwares, and call themselves "tech" channels!
do you plan to make a teardown review of the upcoming dell g15 5520 with 12 gen intel?
or maybe something even better, a teardown comparison of dell g15 and alienware m15 r7, to see whether there is a difference in internal components between dell high end and mainstream machines?

In 9/21 I bought for $900, a Nitro 5 with 10th gen I5, rtx3050, 16gb ram and 512 ssd. I don’t use it that often but it has performed well enough to play some games when I travel. Yeah battery life is baaad, but I don’t really need to play on batteries. Overall I’m happy with the performance and quality. My biggest gripe are the speakers. Since they suck so bad I carry a wireless headset with me when I travel. I like this channel and glad I found it

I got this laptop with the 11th gen processor and a 1650 GPU, and I bought an 8GB stick to add myself back in mid 2021.
Honestly it's not the most performant laptop I could have got, but it runs the games I need it to and the RAM upgradability and extra storage options were a plus for me. I wish I had found one with the 3050, but it is what it is lol.

I've always enjoyed Acer's laptops, even though I only had one entry level model several years ago.
It's still kicking in its new home with my parents.
I'm glad to see the battery easily removable. Nonpassive battery failures are the number one scariest incident I've experienced in my years of collecting laptops.
Just had my Asus M50v try to go up not long ago. Fortunately it was contained, as I wasn't there when it failed.
If you have an old laptop with an externally removable and very old battery, and you care about it at all, familiarize yourself with the latch system for the battery. If it does decide it hates you, you'll only have a short time between when you realize there's a problem and when there's large amounts of fire everywhere.
Also, always charge old laptops (whether actually old or just unused for a time) under close supervision until you're sure they aren't going to take a class change from "laptop battery" to "incindeary device". (hp nc6000)
If it already has started popping off harder than a rapper, don't try to remove it. Get the flaming computer to a safe place as quickly as possible.

Have my Nitro 5 with Ryzen 5 4600H and 1650 Ti with 16 gigs of 3200 ram for two years now and it's still works just awesome. The only two things that are making me a bit sad is the keyboard that sometimes needs a little harder push for key to be registered (it was like that from the momen of buying) and lack of Thunderbolt. But the keyboard doesn't really bother me since i'm using it primarily in a somewhat strange configuration (it sits on a stand with a second portable 15 inch display placed on the top of keyboard, external mouse and keyboard)

Its actually possible to swap out the whole palmrest assembly of these Nitros to the metal one of the same model year Predator Helios 300. This drastically improves structural rigidity and also generally feels and looks a lot nicer. You'd need top case, bottom panel and the touchpad from said predator, then its plug-and-play

Now I know which companies used metal screw standoffs for the hinges and throughout. If you can, do you mind to do a review on the ASUS TUF Dash 2022 please? Wife got me the RTX2060 version with the i7-1075 a few years ago. I can confirm all the same design issues etc. I have already had to replace one of the cooling fans and my S key is totally rubbed off, along with W,A,D also showing signs of breaking down "HARD CORE GAMER". The S started only a few months into purchase. Myn came with 16gig ram but she asked (on my requests) for Harvey Norman to put an extra 16gig stick in. It was not a matching pair, as in manufacturer but at least they did match the speed. I could not believe they were selling them with single ram sticks. They did upgrade it for free. Can also confirm the full click in PSU as I have been caught out a few time. Battery is pretty much a glorified UPS, I get like 1h 20min of 1080p Cyberpunk on it. I also have a 4 fan cooler stand and it helps a lot. Over all it has been one of the best laptops I have owned. Cheers for the vid.

for someone that still confused about how to remove the fans for cleaning, 9:48 is really helpful.
i have the 2020 version (AN515-55) and it served me well, but the major issue on my copy is cpu temp can be abysmal and reach above 90C when playing certain games (assetto corsa, me andromeda, forza horizon, nfs heat) and thats after repaste + using cooling pad. surprisingly, temp is fine when rendering videos with premiere.

I have a 10th gen one (i5-10400h), dual channel 16gb (upgraded), GTX 1650, 60hz FHD screen, also red lit keyboard.
It has been SOLID, bought it used (already had almost 2 years of usage + bite marks from a small dog) and it has been holding on well. Been using it for 6months+ now and it was also reeally cheap, around $550 converted to dollars (which is a steal in my country if you consider taxes and stuff)
A few points I have to add to people looking into these laptops:
-Mine had REAALLY minor scoring on the cold plates, really uncomparable to yours. There were also quite a few thermal pads on no components (pads probably meant for the higher-end models), which is weird, but hey, if I need to replace something, at least I can use them - It had decent thermals even if the original owner never repasted it, I did out of caution and it got a few degrees better but not much (around 3, I'd say margin of error) - The pads also looked to be more solid than yours, perhaps because of their age?
-Speakers really are "borderline usable" - I found their quality fine after selecting "Custom Audio" on NitroSense but their volume is still too low for day usage, at night though, pretty great TH-cam machine -
-P3 jack though? Very decent soundcard as far as I'm concerned, also I don't notice as much static (if at all) compared to my work 11th gen Dell Vostro (I usually use IEMS that are quite sensible to these sorts of things)
-Saw a lot of people (especially on selling listings) saying the hinges breaking are a "common issue" - Never, ever had any issues with it - Also saw this on the newer generations as well, I just think people treat it terrible tbh.
-Power brick is also pretty good after 2y+ of usage, never replaced it (for some god forsaken reason, replacing power bricks is really common around here, worked on a repair shop a couple of years)
-I love the keyboard. Still prefer it over my work Dell 11th gen Vostro. It just has good travel and to me, great feedback for a notebook keyboard.
Not the biggest fan of the red lights, but they're fine and pretty good at the lowest brightness - Granted, my keyboard is also ABNT2, brazilian standard - I just hate that whenever I turn it off they come back with full brightness. Also, the 30s timeout for the keyboard lights is terrible and comes on by default, you can turn that off on the bios or on the software though.
-Touchpad is a bit "mirrory" but still has a great feeling, doesn't glide as nice as my work's Vostro or Macbook, but the well-defined clicks are great and using 2 fingers for scrolling or right-hand click always worked beautifully.
-I could easily buy the IPS 144hz FHD screen upgrade for it through a marketplace here in Brazil and while I wouldn't say it's cheap, it's pretty much in-line with what a "decent" (not color accurate, just decent) 144hz monitor would cost.
-Battery is meh, but with the years of usage that's about what I'd expect, especially on 10th gen, and especially on a gaming laptop. About 3-4h of screen on time.
-I, of course, sticker bombed the screen outer shell so it doesn't look too gamer-y, and also to hide the bite marks.

The single channel ram isn't a problem IF you want to upgrade without having to remove the old ram stick. A fine option and helps to lower price. Maybe you might upgrade the ram later down the road.
Now, I'm not saying that single channel is good, just that its not as bad as people make it out to be, IF you want to upgrade in the future yourself.

Yeah, acer has stepped up the cooling over the 2019 model.
Can you cover the MSI gf65 thin? It is often times competing with acer in pricing and even under cutting it. Packs a i5 10500h and 80w 3060. But it has blocked vents. Please make a review of it, and if possible, cut up some holes to see if it makes a difference. Otherwise the msi gf65 thin is a pretty solid machine. Very lightweight.

I recently upgraded to a 2023 Aorus 17H with i7-13700H and RTX 4080 with a similar 1080p 360Hz screen. The Nitro 5 only cost me $1300 USD and the new Aorus was only $1920.
