That ~20W CPU cap while the GPU is in use will cost big time in apps like Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, etc. The display might not be ideal for photo or video editing, but it’s fine for everyday gaming. A display with low colour gamut, low brightness, very slow response time, no g-sync nor adaptive sync/freesync; on a laptop that’s over $1300 just makes very little sense in the current market.
Can the screen be calibrated though or that’s just how the panel is from the factory and there’s no other way around it? Other than just buying another laptop with a better screen.. Currently own an msi with i7 7th gen and it’s lacking the performance I need for photo and video editing and was thinking about cheaper laptops with i7 12700h. My msi has a 1080p 120hz screen factory calibrated so I can use it for photo editing at least.
@@Super01041994 unfortunately, the screen can’t be calibrated to increase the colour accuracy, that’s just how it is from the factory. You can connect a much better external monitor but they still cost quite a bit

As a owner of this laptop as a first PC I think it’s honestly a great computer for what it is but I don’t find the keyboard flimsy and you can stop the screen from wobbling by buying a monitor (kinda a no-brainer)
I am still happy with my Nitro 5 2019 model. The 2022 model has not changed much from 2019 ones in designe, except some ports were mounted on the back side and, of course, better hardware. What I like in NItro 5 laptops is the cooling design that allows the machine to stay quite silent and not too hot during gaming unlike other budget-friendly machines + the best upgradability in its class (two slots for RAM; two m.2 slots + one 2.5 slots + possibility to upgrade WiFi card)
@@blinkreveluvies3675 Hi, the laptop has i5-8300h, GTX 1050 (3GB), 16 GB RAM (I added 8 GB by myself), and 2.5 TB SSD (2 TB added). I use the laptop every day for my work (light office applications), video editing (Davinci Resolve), and some gaming despite the GPU being quite weak by today's standard. However, It surprisingly allows me to play some relatively new games in medium/high preset in the range of 30-60 fps (RE 7 - up to 60 fps, newest Tomb Raired - up to 45 fps, etc) and older titles in the highest preset and 60+ fps (Bioshock collection, The Evil Within, DOOM 2016, etc.), which is a big step up compared to my Xbox one and PS4. Regarding the issues with the laptop - no problems were detected during almost 3 years of everyday use. Also, the battery still holds for 3+hours of light usage (office work, web browsing, etc)
The issue of laptop heating is easy to solve, you just have to go in Power settings and there you will find performance options for various modes of "Acer Nitro Sense" Reduce a little bit, In normal mode I have reduced the maximum power up to 80%, it is more than enough to edit videos etc.. At maximum performance I have the maximum energy limit up to 90%, this means the computer doesn't heat up as much, I can play heavy games without problems just at 70 degrees.
thank you so much for making these videos. i spent the last few days trying to figure out what laptop to buy and your videos have helped immensely with how in depth and methodical they are. i really appreciate it, you can really tell how much work you put into them. i wish you all the best, thanks again
Finally a budget machine. I do consider the Nitro to be the best low tier options for gaming. Not bad for what it's worth but yeah that $1600 price tag for higher config is not worth it. Better hope it comes down in deals soon.
I just ordered the Acer Nitro 5 with Ryzen 5600H, 95w RTX 3011053060, 8gb 3200mhz RAM, 144hz 1080p display, and 512gb nvme ssd for $650 during black Friday. It's going to be a giant leap from the HP with Ryzen 5500u integrated graphics I've been using. Lol

This is a great review, i will go for this one tomorrow if im lucky, as latest when i get my salary the first week of November. Seems like the best budget choise to be able to play some good old games and at the same time enjoy the speed of 16gb ram in other processes im using it for.
Hi everyone, i have the Acer Nitro5 "17" from 2022 with Intel 7 and I only pay 900€ here in Germany 🤙 I'm really happy with it, i can playBf2042 with 140 fps , BF4 and BF5 until 180 fps, i play on a 27 inches screen with 165 MHz 1ms and I also change the Ram to 32 Gb RAM 💪❤️ was a little bit noisy when playing at beginning because of the cooler, then I discovered if we reduce the amount of energy will also reduces the temperature 🌡️ and the fans coller as well 👍, I reduce the energy system to max 80% in " Acer moderated performance" and max 90% in " Maximum performance " , makes a lot of difference gaming and working 👍 also improves the computer Lifetime . It's a choice for for people who wants something good to start with lower budget 😉👌Price/benefits 👍👍👍👍👍 5 stars
Hey there! Thanks for sharing your detailed review of Acer's Nitro 5 gaming laptop. It's great to see all the improvements they've made this year, especially with the addition of a MUX switch and higher GPU power limits. The increased performance compared to last year's model is definitely a plus, and the option for a 1440p 165Hz screen sounds promising for those looking for a better display. I also appreciate the information on battery life and the suggestion to consider the Ryzen 6000 configuration for better battery performance. The loud fans and the screen wobbling could be minor inconveniences for some users, but overall, it seems like a solid gaming laptop option. The pricing and availability details you provided are helpful, although it's a bit disappointing to see the current price increase compared to last year's model. It's good to know that the Helios 300 with similar specs is available at a similar price point, which gives consumers more choices. Once again, thanks for the thorough review and for keeping us informed about the latest gaming laptops. Your insights are always valuable! Cheers!
It's honestly not a bad laptop. I used this same model for several months before getting an Asus laptop. It doesn't really have bloatware, doesn't get hot at all, easily upgradable, and the picture quality isn't bad at all.
I bought a acer nitro in April this year and returned it less than a week later it's cheap quality and performance is unstable and don't say all laptop are trash because I recently got a asus tuf and it is awesome
I waited this video for a long time, thank you so much ! As a student I’m very happy to can buy a good i5-12500h + rtx 3060 version laptop config for 999€. I will upgrade the ram to 2x32gb 2933mhz cl19 for 200€ more.

80$ more you could get Katana MSI i7 12th , RTX 3050 4g , Ram 16g , 1tb ssd 500gb btw not to hate or anything just heard people saying that Nitro is very fragile and Low end hardware , compare to any other PC brand like Asus , Dell at least MSI Katana has better improvement of the thin one

@@JA3_J-A3 Less but better quality. I mean Yeah it's fine if you already have it, its not bad really its worth the bucks. You get what you pay for. But Specs isn't what all the cost is about. I have this laptop. Let me warn everyone watching this not to buy it. Within a week of use, i encountered power issues wherein the laptop will turn off by itself randomly. Audio issues such as ridiculously low volume levels and audio pops, graphical issues etc the list goes on. Customer service is also non existent. This is the worst laptop anyone can buy.
And today it can be bought new for under $1200 in Australia. Im sure i could spend more but i find gamming laptops seem to be built with some rough play in mind and have some performance behind it, i just bought one and given the most power-hungry thing i do is make models, slice them and print them the nitro 5 is more than enough.
Hi Jarrod, i am thnking to buy a new gaming laptop next year so do you have an idea about the release of the the rtx 4000 series and Intel 13th mobile chips or should I just buy this current 12th gen rtx 30 series laptop

I purchased the Acer Nitro 5 2022 a month ago here in India and i have 2 sticks of 1Rx8 Memory pre-installed. So I think it varies on location to location which rank ram u will get. (My laptop is i5-12500H with RTX 3050 95W varient).
Gotta love how so many people asking you to compare acer laptops with legion laptops while you literally already review so many legion laptops this year and always include them on benchmark graphs in every newest videos, yet so many people are too lazy to check them out and decide for themselves.

Seems like Acer Nitro 5 varies a lot for different countries. Its been really good for the price and the 3060 is enough gaming on the 17" QHD screen. Same finding with the cooling as your video, the fans on max, or with coolers don't seem to change the temp and in fact seems a little bit higher by 2-3deg (at least base on the NitroSense software )
Isn't the Asus Tuf a budget laptop too? How would this year's Tuf compare to this Nitro 5? And while I'm on it, how would the Helios compare against the 5 Pro?
I have had laptops for a lifetime. Mostly, the battery life is the first to deteriorate. My 2017 4 year old Acer Nitro 5 screen flickered beyond recognition ahead of its battery. I was really frustrated.

So, I do have the RTX 4050 one of this laptop. And I think with 1TB SSD Storage, 16GB RAM, Intel core i7 12th gen I definently got great specs for both gaming and video editing. But as you expect the only two issues are the poor color accuracy and the mediocre speakers (while at least it still has SOME bass in it) which are two distracting things to consider. At least, I am not making artworks on a device like this since an ipad is a much better option, but for video editing without focussing on the colors, it’s still fine for me. I like 1440p but these laptops are still very expensive to afford which is why I went for the cheaper 1080p one. But it will be the last time I am ever buying a laptop with a 1080p screen. If you ever consider reviewing the Acer Nitro 17, I hope you can review both the 1080p and 1440p models.

Acer Nitro is a great laptop! I have on myself. The only thing thats preventing it for being the best laptop in its price range is the bad quality control of acer. You literally have to hope that the unit you will get isnt defective.

@@alun1038 Then I think I'm going for another brand which has a calibrated screen with 100% srgb as I want to edit from my laptop so an external screen is out of the question for now. Thanks for clarification
As a owner of this laptop as a first PC I think it’s honestly a great computer for what it is but I don’t find the keyboard flimsy and you can stop the screen from wobbling by buying a monitor (kinda a no-brainer)
It really depends on how you're using the laptop. A monitor is only going to help if you don't intend on using the laptop as a laptop at all.
hows the typing experience? is it tactile and comfortable with good travel distance?
I am still happy with my Nitro 5 2019 model. The 2022 model has not changed much from 2019 ones in designe, except some ports were mounted on the back side and, of course, better hardware. What I like in NItro 5 laptops is the cooling design that allows the machine to stay quite silent and not too hot during gaming unlike other budget-friendly machines + the best upgradability in its class (two slots for RAM; two m.2 slots + one 2.5 slots + possibility to upgrade WiFi card)
Hi can I know the spec of your nitro 5? does it face any big problem in these 2 years?
Legion is better with thermals and quieter
@@youtubecommenter8532 isnt it like a lot more expensive
having a 2.5 slot is nice
Quiet mode looking great. 82% of the performance for 18dB less of noise (e.i. 3.5x less perceived noise, i think)
@@mrwickptOr even better (for casual use), just use Throttlestop and disable turbo.

Finally a budget machine. I do consider the Nitro to be the best low tier options for gaming. Not bad for what it's worth but yeah that $1600 price tag for higher config is not worth it. Better hope it comes down in deals soon.
Probably will for black Friday or Christmas

Here's hoping this nitro goes the same way the 2022 helios did, and brings about decent improvements
Cheers!

A laptop like this is a gaming workhorse, you don't need to treat it like a fancy macbook so you don't need microfiber cloth.
It's honestly not a bad laptop. I used this same model for several months before getting an Asus laptop. It doesn't really have bloatware, doesn't get hot at all, easily upgradable, and the picture quality isn't bad at all.

asus tuf a15 2022 vs acer nitro 5 2022 I'm so undecided, which one do you think is better?
