    Why can't Ryan's parents be more supportive? Being kinda lucky? He was just downright smart. Also, he's parents are way too unreasonable.

      This seems similar to they beauty pageants, where the parents are worse than the kids, I could easily see arguments like “my kid is smarter than your kids” a bit of an ego trip and I feel unfair putting kids under this sort of pressure.

    This episode is pure proof that geniuses can't be extremely proficient in all subjects. Vanya, who won the whole show, did worse than Ryan in this Math and Geography round. Clearly, Vanya has her strengths and weakness. It was the structure of the show and the order of the categories that helped her win. Please note that I am in no way demeaning Vanya's win. But, if the Math & Geography category was the last category, Ryan may have had won the title of Child Genius(since the category that he was disqualified in may have disqualified another contestant in the early round, instead of Ryan.)

    • @rayjfang
      @rayjfang 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ThatOneGuy The same goes for Vanya losing to Tanishq and Katherine in the card memorization round. It was the structure of the rounds that resulted in Vanya's win. If the card memorization had been the final round, Katherine may have had a shot at winning.

    • @jesbinj
      @jesbinj 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +ThatOneGuy I think she won because she was "good enough" at her weakness, also the last round combined things like math and history and even other things. Wasn't one of the questions like multiply the number of years a certain president held office with the number of ribs you have.

    Ryan, you are a brilliant kid and I know you have spent great effort in getting to where you are today! Everyone is different, everyone has different learning styles and getting to their goals in different ways. Wise parents find ways to be in tune to their kids' needs, their styles, have patience and lift their kids' spirits along the way... I am glad you have the resilience in handling your parents' constant criticism... what they said on the shows were reflection of their own issues, their words were not reflection of you, again you are a brilliant 12-year old!!
    If Ryan's parents could leave Ryan alone, send words of sincere recognition and encouragement (words from the hearts, not with intention of making themselves look good in front of the cameras) and with love, believe it will not only help Ryan but make their lives a lot easier...

    I don't think this type of pressure and preparation is healthy for a child's life experience.

    • @sarahholland5980
      @sarahholland5980 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe it is if they truly have a passion for learning. Some kids just seem to be here because of their parents - I don't think that is healthy. But a lot of these kids have grown up being the top of their class and the smartest person in town. I think this a great challenge for those kids, as well as a humbling experience. A lot of these kids truly enjoy the competition. Granted, I'm nowhere near as intelligent as these children - But I love competitions. I love participating in new things and taking challenges that I may struggle in because it means I get to grow as a person and as a student. It's all based off of your love of learning.

    • @YPeezy
      @YPeezy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @sarahholland I agree with your comment. I'd like to add regardless of how passionate one is, all of that preparation is grueling.

    • @sarahholland5980
      @sarahholland5980 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      YPeezy That's true! I don't think preparing is the issue for these children, though. They can retain information so easily, and preparing is actually fun for some of them. I think it's the pressure that's the unhealthiest part of this competition. Their parents and families constantly seem to pushing and wanting more.

    • @TheEthologist_and_Gamer
      @TheEthologist_and_Gamer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Sarah Holland they are portraying intelligence in a very wrong manner. These children seem not be intellectually gifted. Even if they are, they are being misguided by the society. As a gifted, I would say that there is no relation between the collection of abstract data and intelligence. Intelligence is all about the intensity with which one engages in a task.

    These kids are freaking mind-blowingly-awesome but, this kinda reminds me of Toddlers and Tiaras. It's mostly for their parents ego's.
    Presidents are well connected, look out for banks, corporations, financiers, say complete bullshit with total confidence and keep the status quo, it has very little to do with being smart but, it helps.

If you raise your kids under pressure, no sort of freedom, and only saying they did good cuz they got lucky is just gonna make them resent you. These kids are hella smart and they should be praised for that, not being told that it was luck and not their hard work. I hope they continue to do good cuz like they def got the criteria to go through the wrong crowd.

    Most of this comment section is about how the parents weren’t being supportive... Welcome to the Asian lifeu. We’re A-sian not B-sian yet we could still do better than having an A+. We need an average of 4.00 in order to be “good enough” or else we’re like a disgrace to our parents. Like I’m not even joking I got grounded for 4 months bc of ONE B.... it wasn’t even a low B and a couple days after I brought it up. Also, we get lectured at home 24/7 along with the “sorry is not an excuse for getting a low A” phrase everyday.
    Sincerely, Asian kid.

      Yeah lol, it's kinda the same for me except I don't get grounded for getting a B. I'm an A student and so when I get B's, you can just feel the disappointment radiating from my mum. 😂 Once I got a C and my mum told her friend, who sent me learning material for that subject for a whole term. She even got me a tutor for that subject. 😂 And when I come 2nd for something academic, the first thing my mum says is "Who came first?" or "Why didn't you come first?".
      For me it's not really that bad because I know it's just because she knows I can do better and she wants me to study really hard so I can have a good future. But wow, you seem to have it waaay harder than me.

      Maxine Gilligan Maybe you shouldn't have judged in the first place! You don't know what is going on in others' life. This is all something that you 'think'. You NEVER know. Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong. She could be watching anything on another algebra website, BESIDES, TH-cam. You need to consider other options. Perhaps she might be getting a tutor. Maybe it is just rare, maybe it is. It's not your life.
