    I have learned all the levels of abacus and can tell they went through intensive training. In my personal opinion, anyone who still uses finger movements could get answer wrong, I keep my eyes open and focus on a spot and I am almost always right. Finger movements are muscle memory but it cannot move faster than your brain or imaginary beads. I see a biggggg abacus when I am calculating, but if I used my finger movements it would slow me down, again everybody is different.
    I can do 3 digits 20 rows with the same speed but never went further. I would love to try this calculation maybe at slower speed. I was also a teacher in Canada and kids here would not believe me. So I would show them my own demo and show videos like this. I have tried 4 digits 15 rows in my classroom, got correct answer but the speed was slow. Since I am older, I am not as good as I used to be but I can definitely learn. Amazing video.

  • @dathyr1
    @dathyr1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Amazing. I know there are math speed skills we can learn to do this kind of thing, but for all of them to be that close to the correct number is amazing. Even the 2 that got the number wrong were not that far off from the correct number.

      To be fair, it's not like these kids are geniuses or something. They don't "happen" to be very good at this, it's a skill; not a talent. They're trained in techniques very specific to this kind of stuff, kind of like how athletes have to train their sport every day. So yeah, don't feel down because of this. It's not a matter of being naturally good or not, just whether your parents put you in a "mental arithmetic" school (those exist in China) or not.

    The numbers are NOT random. If you randomly choose a 3-digit number (100-999), the expected mean should be in the middle, 549.5. They took a sample of 100 and got a expect mean of 669.48. Significantly different the supposedly population mean. This is a pretty basic statistical analysis. If you run the numbers, the probability that this happens by chance is less than 0.001%.
    Now, there could be other factors that skewed the selection. For example, the numbers are supposedly selected by the judges, maybe the judges had some inherent bias towards higher numbers. But the bottom line is the numbers they chose were not statistically random.

      My mum taught me how to do arithmetics including multiplication and division on a abacus when I was around 4. Later when I grew up I learnt that abacus could even do power calculations including root calculations. If one’s an abacus master, using modern calculators will not match with him in some basic arithmetics; it only takes seconds for one to do a 2-figure big-number multiplication on an abacus before anyone can even type down the numbers on their calculator. These kids have abacuses in their mind.

      Omg is this what non Chinese speakers hear XD I can sorta hear the numbers but I also have to read it on the screen at the same time. If I don’t I would have no idea lol

    I hate it when people think this kind of stuff is fake. Like, just because you can't do it doesn't mean it's impossible.

    when the computer started reading the numbers, I though the show was having a laugh and fast forwarded the reading process.

    One thing that I noticed that they censored the kid's name, the first word of their personal name at least, and I appreciate that, to reduce their embarrassment of their failure

    While they were displaying the numbers from the answers, I was like "what was the right answer?" after seeing it just 3 seconds ago... I can't even imagine the cerebral processing these kids have. Impressive.

      God damn impossible more like. Processing that much information that fast and getting an accurate computation is just plain too difficult and too improbable for me to believe. I personally refuse to believe this wasn’t staged.

      @@aaronconner1440 they use an abacus. Its a bunch of rails with beads and they memorize the changes to the abacus in their mind not the numbers themselves. Its how calculations at this speed are possible

      @@unityman3133 not to be rude but i seriously doubt anyone’d be able to remember all of the movements and do so fast enough. This whole thing still feels completely staged
