These videos are the best of their kind on YT. Anyone with a camera can watch these and then make amazing travel/holiday videos. Keep them coming Pascal!
This was an actual helpful video. Explains some shots and why their useful. Almost all the other travel don’t tell you how to shoot just says, just says move your camera and have people moving inside your frame if it’s a stationary shot. This is the theme of all these travel videos that I’ve seen besides this one.
THIS is an incredible tutorial and exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you for being on camera and demonstrating how you actually film raw footage, talking through your thought process, and showing the resulting recording.
Excellent video and probably the most detailed and accurate explanation for me to get way better b-roll. Thank you so much. I'm going to use all of your tips on an upcoming work trip to Hawaii.
Really well done. Most advice videos seem like they are posted by 14 year olds who are just amazed by the gear and not technique. Keep up the great work.
Hello Pascal,i am new to videography here, one question,do you half press the shutter first to lock in the SUBJECT before you press the record and make the composition?do you use AF or AF continues in these shots?i am using A6400 and i want to learn the basics, thanks for sharing your knowledge....
Hi Pascal, really great tutorial. I would like to know how you change focus point from the flower to the road in the distance. What kind of autofocus do you use for this shot? The part of the video I am referring to is at 6.50 minutes🙂 best regards Antonio
Hi Pascal What an awesome tutorial, I love being able to see the movements you make, hearing the reasons why you're making them and the final shot, so it all makes sense, please make more like this, I learn so much from you. I'm sure you've covered this to death, so please forgive me for asking. I'm a little confused when it comes to colour grading my gopro and sony footage, should I be using a "Utility Lut" to bring my footage into "rec709" colour space, then make small corrections, then add a "Cinematic Lut" for that final mood look? I think I understand things correctly, but wanted to check on with you first. Boy this colour grading thing is a lot more involved than just slap on a Lut and your done.☺️
Thank you very much. There is not the one correct way. I use the process you describe a lot but sometimes it’s also easier to grade flat color profiles manually. Really depends on the shot and the look you want to achieve.
Thanks 👍🏻 Camera settings won’t do anything as you have to change them depending on your shooting conditions. If I show the clip while taking it, you wouldn’t see how I take it 😉
Nice... B Rolls bro.... Can you tell me which adapter you use to mount sigma canon mount? And And which accessories you use in this video to mount external monitor with GH5 using HDMI cable.? Want to know all your rigs used in this video... Thanks i n advance @pascal Basel
Where can i find the basics? Like what is Broll for example. I hope you have a video explaining the basics. What technique was that when suddenly you zoomed in to the birds?
@@pascalbasel that's whare I'm come from, just wanted to let you know I still watching your video 🙂🙂 it's all a very great tip I'm learning how to film TH-cam video your video helping me a lot
One tip I've used is to have your neck strap on and push your camera away from your body. If you have the neck strap at the right length, your elbows will be at your sides and you can use the neck strap to stabilize your camera. It works very well. It's a tip I picked up from Laura Reid. She's a fashion/lifestyle vlogger out of Vancouver, but she had a couple of videos on how she shoots travel footage and that's where I picked up the tip. It made a big difference for me.
Im heading to Japan next Friday and was curious is it weird to bring an external monitor to shoot broll? I feel like im bringing a lot of attention to myself where I dont speak the language, dont know the etiquitte, and I even want to bring my gimbal for the temples, culture, and nightlife... I can definitely fit it in a bag but not sure how I feel about it in another country where I dont know any rules anywhere.
And once you have your video uploaded, be patient and wait until all the resolutions are available in youtube or else your subscribers will have to see in 360p... Like I do now
I have the feeling, I forgot everything I learned before🙈 I have to watch all your Videos again. Maybe I should stay in Sidemen the next 10 days until my flight to Japan. Just to make a break to practice doing video and editing ☺️
It's the Atomos Ninja V with a Samsung 1TB SSD and the Ulanzi PT-3 cold shoe plate to mount the monitor behind my camera. When it's mounted on top I easily get shake to the sides. That's why the plate from Ulanzi helps a lot.
@@pascalbasel Thank you. It looks like it works really well in that config. Might have to give it a try. Love your videos by the way and really appreciate the learning we all get from them/you.
@@GeorginaMckimm 60p and 24p mean the frames per second. The higher fps in your camera, and the lower in your edit, the more you can slow it down. 24p is the lowest you can do.

Thanks, I use the AF-On button. So it focuses when I press it but not when I don’t. As the AF on that lens is not good with a speedbooster I sometimes have to correct it by turning the focus ring.

The movement in your shots comes out quite smooth considering you are not using a gimbal.
Panasonic GH5 IBIS 😉

Very good tips, basically don't just start shooting, look around, cone with a plan and don't have a tunnel vision

Yes, just recognized that. Sorry^^
I like the way you mount you monitor, could you please share how you mount it?
I use the Ulanzi PT-3 and U-40 to mount it. Basically a short rail to the back with a cold shoe mount to be able to set everything up quick.

Thanks for the tutorial video. At 0.45 second, the screen open horizontally wider, please let me know how did you do that transition in editing?
You either use a letterbox plugin or simply animate black images/solid color layers that come in and out from the top and bottom using keyframes.
Pascal Basel: Thank you for a quick response. I will try your suggestion.
Keep it up Basel!
Thanks bro

Do you film them clips in slow mo or do you edit that after?
I film in 60p and edit on a 24p timeline. So I can slow them down to 40% of the original speed when I edit the video.
