Thank you for the thorough guide! My PS3 controller has to be plugged in AND I had to disable the vibration function because it cannot hold a charge, so a battery replacement is definitely needed. Definitely will order one of those kits.
A year later but thanks for this comment. COD kept turning off my ps3 controller and I had an idea it was the battery but just haven’t got one yet. So I couldn’t play the game. Then seeing your comment I turned off the vibration and I’ll be damned it doesn’t disconnect every ten seconds. Great temp fix until I get a new battery. Thanks
I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I watch and listen to all your videos in a sleep playlist because it is ASMR for me. Also, I’ve learned a lot about repairing and fixing things so thank you! Been watching for years!
I found a reviewer of the batmax who took the grey plastic case off and found a 500 mAh inside. Looks like all the others on Amazon are the same one with a different sticker, most lying about the capacity.
Great video. I also had a problem unplugging the battery The plastic housing kept cracking and breaking as i tried to wiggle it out with needlenose pliers. I see that you just pulled so if it breaks apart i hope i can take some clamps and pull it all out.Thanks.
Nice job, very helpful and I subscribed. I was just curious as I am going through this too how are the Batmax Batteries doing for holding a charge? I know you only did this 11 months ago, just trying to find a reliable battery. Thanks!
I bought a second hand PS3 slim on ebay in very good condition. But the same sixaxis controller that came with the console disconnects by itself every 30 mins to an hour and when i turn it back on the battery is at 75%.... So is this an issue with the console or the battery in the controller?
I don’t remember what brand I bought but I installed them with no issues but they wouldn’t charge. Has anyone had this issue with this particular brand?
My PS3 (dualshock/rumble) controllers didn't come with those 'battery stands'.. instead the batteries themselves had a couple of click-nips/little legs in the corners. I can't seem to find any replacement batteries that have those little legs on them? Is there a place I can order/find those battery stands?
@@akaiaokakesu That's only half true. I have four Dualshock 3 controllers, (with rumble obviously). I have three different revisions among those controllers. Only one of those use a battery with its own legs.
My dualshock sixaxis looks very different on the inside. The mainboard is not in one piece like yours and there are no center plates between shoulder buttons.
@@NetYarozeGR Yeah could be. My has Rumble. At first I was thinking maybe its a Region thing. Europe,Us. But I watched the video again and clearly no rumble. Thx
@@curiousmind_ every now and then i can get it to work randomly plugged in but 9/10 it still doesn't work even after replacing battery. I ended up buying a new controller
Interesting. My controller didn't have those separate pieces under the R2 buttons. Forgot how spongy the trigger buttons were. Watch those baby springs behind the trigger buttons, if they're not seated correctly your buttons won't work right.
As the battery ages, this chemical reaction no longer completes perfectly, which can result in the creation of gas (called outgassing), leading to a swollen battery. Additionally, if the battery's internal layers don't maintain proper separation (due to damage or defect), outgassing, swelling, and even fire can occur.
Why the hell didn't Sony make their batteries easier to replace like just unscrew and its available like the wii-U is so easy to replace batteries without fiddly bits. This is why I always prefer the Xbox pads they are just AA batteries which means rechargeable 2800mah = eternal power and easy to charge or replace after 5 years or so lol
They didn't really plan on people playing with the same controllers for so long. But, this is hardly the only design problem with them. I have never been able to get them to charge without plugging them into a PS3, Computer or something else that does more than just charge. I don't know why they did that as it's rather stupid to require that you plug it into the PS3 when you might have more than just two contollers charging at the same time. I only have one controller, but I've heard that some games will allow more than 2 players at once, meaning that as the controllers age, keeping them all charged can require creativity.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade Sony don't think very often do they? I mean look at the ps5 pro now it comes £700 without a Disk Drive, good luck trying to sell another digital console that doesn't have a disk drive at that price.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade Actually if that was true, they made the same mistake again for ps5 lol they could redesign it and make it replaceable easily, but is it? still have to unscrew and open triggers and cables?

I see Amazon reviews of these batteries saying the capacities are a lie. How are they holding up for you?
The buttons slid off the sensor strip
Do you have a video on how to insert strips to line up to buttons?
Can I use my PS3 controller wired without the battery connected?
That is a dumbass question.
If I swap a 5V 500ma battery into a controller that has a 3.7V 300ma battery is that ok?
The clip that holds my battery socket wont come out. I even tried tweezers. I bought another controller and threw that one out. That helped me
Perfect video! I think I need to do this now.
Where do you buy these batteries
Replacing the battery in a PS3 controller is probably the easiest thing you could ever do one of them at least in my opinion.

very detail and love it
Excellent video
Thanks for the video ❤
What Amazon kit is this? I need the one with the screwdrivers
How is the battery holding up? I am planning to order the same one.
I am also curious...did it last?
I have 2 controllers I’d like to do this to but each of the controllers have at least one of the 5 screws stripped. Any tips on removing these?
Use super glue or a bigger screwdriver I hear rubber bands help too but the rubber bands never work for me

That "1800mAh" is just a big fat Chinese lie.
The physical dimensions are the same as just the regular battery which says "570mAh(Typ. 610mAh)"
So diy friendly in comparison to the bullshit controllers out currently
