saw them live in Portland back in the day. a girl was hurt in the crowd. the singer stopped the show mid song to get her help. while we waited for paramedics(she was unconscious), the band stood with the whole crowd and held hands up and out over her and prayed. the singer spoke of love and taking care of each other. only after the girl had been attended to and taken away did the praying stop and show continue. im not religious in any way. but, the humanity displayed was awe inspiring. mad respect for these guys.

Sonny Sandoval’s life background serves interesting. His mom dying of cancer, he found faith, his cousin Wuv the drummer.. all this So-Cal San Diego community culture.. they eventually found this calling to get to music and sharing their values through those personal moments, and etc. and they do that to this day though of course it’s changed over time.. musically, philosophically, spiritually.. nonetheless they remain true to their original core.

I remember Alive hit the scene right around when 9/11 happened and it was #1 on MTV's TRL for quite awhile and rightly so. It has a great sound and the positive message was something America really needed at the time. Despite only really follow P.O.D. through their Southtown and Satellite albums; this song, the timing of it's release, and the impact it had at that time will always stand out for me.

I have followed P.O.D. from the beginning, when they were playing tiny shows with 25 people there in the late 90s. I was on their promotion team for a while, leaving stacks of stickers and such at record stores, when they still existed. I think "The Messenjah" is my favorite track from the Satellite album. I'm also a big fan of "Anything Right" featuring Christian Lindskog of Blindside, another Christian rock/metal band. I saw them live in DC for their first post-9/11 show. It was sobering driving past the Pentagon with the huge flag still draped over the hole where the plane hit. It made the show more meaningful. I stayed after, hoping to talk to Sonny and thank him for writing one of their first songs, "Full Color," about losing his mom, since I'd also recently lost my mom. We had a chain link fence between us, but I did get to talk to him. I saw them again in 2002 at a festival concert and they recorded the music video for the song "Satellite."

I love Tribal, School of Hard Knocks, and Preach too. But those aren’t the best songs to start off on. Same reason Change and Passenger are usually suggested to start off with on Deftones discography, when they have much better songs imho. Minerva, Rosemary, Cherry Waves, Pink Cellphone for example. Aloha Geebz! If you get a chance, you should review/decompose some tracks from ZAO (pronounced Zay-O). They've been around since '94 or '95, with their current vocalist since '98 (and have had a ton of lineup changes over the years). They're not as big as some of the other bands on the channel, but have been a big part of the soundtrack of my life since I was 13 or 14 (I'm almost 34 now). They just put out their 12th studio album last month and are still sounding as great as ever.
You should check out the tracks 'Haunting Pools' or 'Apocalypse' from their 2016 album, 'Croatoan', 'R.I.P.W.', or 'Creator/Destroyer' from their new album, or 'Truly, Truly, This Is The End' from 2006. Loving the channel and enjoying watching you discover new bands/music!

P.O.D. - Eternal. It's very different from the other music and purely instrumental but definitely the peak of their instrument playing and composing. If it were longer it would serve as perfect ambient music to lift spirits as well.

This album was my childhood man, finally saw them live in 2018 and it was so sweet. Such an underrated group. For amazing guitar arrangements by this band, listen to the track "Eternal" from the album Payable On Death. Fantastic acoustic/electrical instrumental journey. Would love to see and hear your interpretations and breakdowns of that song.

"Eternal" is also a great song by these guys. It's really chilled out, and one of my go to songs when I want/need to calm down or am in a chilled out mood.

I’ve never heard this song in it’s entirety, but I have vague memories of hearing the hook in a “Now That’s What I Call Music” commercial in the early 2000s when I was like 7 or 8 back when albums were actually advertised on television. This song has a strange nostalgic feeling for me even though I barely have a connection with it.

    Check out 3!
And yes, the band's name is just "3". They're a prog/metal/rock group out of NY that isn't too well known, but they do some really great stuff. Vaguely similar to Coheed and Cambria (probably because there's a family connection? 3's front man and C&C's drummer are brothers). Unfortunately the name makes them a pain to google, but here's their site:

such an obscure/underrated band. wake pig was my favorite album. Even the album structure was amazing. the songs "wake pig" into "bramfatura" and then into "trust" i could listen to on an endless loop. and the lyricism really shined with this band. truly an unheard gem to most i would imagine.

I want to say at some point of time in the last 20yrs that I caught a P.O.D. song on a TV commercial, but I don't recall what the commercial was and if it was this or "Youth of a Nation." Just one of those half-thoughts nudging at the back of my brain when you said the hook sounded vaguely familiar.

You've been handling some slightly older bands now. Is Strapping Young Lad anywhere on your list? I know you reacted to Devin Townsend, may be fun to take a look at the band that helped him propel to stardom. If not, some of the classics are Zen, Love?, Almost Again and the New Black, to name a few great songs.

Speaking of wall of sound, try Pete Yorn “Life on a Chain”. To my uneducated ears, that’s a great example of it with so many instruments fading in and out on what could easily be an acoustic track.
And don’t worry about subscribers dropping as you mix things up. You’re one of the most interesting “reactor” channels out there. In the long run, your numbers will keep going up.

Love the commentary on bridges here. Got me curious enough to look into the difference between a bridge and a breakdown. Interesting information. I love what these aspects add to an arrangement, and would be very excited to see you discuss these techniques in the song Popular Monster by Falling In Reverse. I believe they use them in a very unique and very affective way. But I'm just a very curious novice. Would love to hear a professional's opinion on it. :)
