Fantastic breakdown bro. You are 100% in your interpretation. They were ahead of their time. There are so many more great songs on that same album. Get on it! 😂😂 Love you bro.
You want a real shock to the system, listen to the original theme song from M.A.S.H. that still has the vocals. Its called Suicide is Painless by Johnny Mandel
BP, you and I are the same age. I remember when this came out. We were the youth. We are now the middle aged. I still am surprised when people are looking for a grownup and i realize i am the grownup. Its scary.
I remember identifying with this song. Not Christian. But damn if it was how i saw my friends went out. Thought i would to. Never thought i would make it to 20. its my 36th bday
One day in march of 2001 they were on their way to the recording studio when they were delayed in traffic because of a school shooting at Santana high school. They wrote this song and delayed the release of the album until September 11 2001, quite the release date.
Had friends die at Columbine h.s. CO... 4/20/'99.... still listen to em/marilyn manson, till this day!.... was listening back then as well!.. weird how they portrayed both of them back then!..."I am" live tis gravy! 1❤🎉
@jamesbuswell40 I was not far that day. A very scary day at my elementary school that day. They don't make anthem songs like this anymore. These songs still hold up, newer music is done within a couple weeks.
@@hammirandathe beginning is about both columbine and the 2001 Santana high school shooting. A shooting very close and very personal to the band members of P.O.D
Me? Personally, I LOVE "Lost In Forever" and "Asthma" too. They've got A LOT of great songs, but those two are good suggestions from me. Oh, and "Alive." "Boom" and "Southtown" are also great suggestions.
It was through this song that I was able to tell my mom that I am suicidal and get some help. It's something I still deal with 24 years later everyday. Don't be afraid to ask for help
I'm so sorry. Hang in there. Glad you're still here. You were created in the image and likeness of God and therefore inherently possess value and worth because of who you were patterned after. Since you've been created in the image and likeness of God, you also have purpose. There's a reason that you're here.
This song among other things talks about the 1999 Columbine massacre and everything that children have to go through its as relevant today as it was back then
The most important, and awesome thing, about this song, was how it was promoted. P.O.D. did a media campaign which saw them on the late night T.V. talk shows. When this was presented on Late Night with David Letterman P.O.D. did the coolest thing. They performed the song with a youth choir from a public school in Brooklyn. It was very impressive.
@skjoldr481 Amen - Thank you for stressing that. Columbine happened just two years prior to this song in 1999. Sadly in Michigan, just two years ago in a small community of Oxford, a 15 year old kid shot 6 of his classmates, killing two of them. Strangely, unlike most mass shooters, he did not take his own life. Hard to know what would have been better. He was found guilty, as was his parents for supplying the gun, but I don't remember how many years of prison time he will have to serve.😢😢😢.
The first shooting in schools like we hear about now happened in the town I live in now. Paducah, KY a small town where a kid went in and started shooting right before classes started. I never knew about it before moving here. It happened in 97. Then again in 2018 there was a shooting in the next county. So utterly sad.
Actually go back every generation....every youth of every generation for the last 50yrs. And in my age bracket there's a suicide there's an epidemic....I mean hell who wants to grow old in this 💩COUNTRY?!?? I'll be homeless at 70. 🙄🤮
I’m almost 50 and I remember when this came out and I went bought the CD just for this song and I was jamming it in my 50 mustang GT! It didn’t come out of the CD player for months.
I listened to this song on repeat when I was a teenager. I grew up in the church and P.O.D was one of the few music groups I was allowed to listen to. All the music I listened to was a cry for help and for someone to understand me. I am in my 30s now and still feel lost. This song just pulls out everything I felt growing up.
I'm 35 and I've been struggling all my life also but this song use to be on repeat too hell i listen to it several time a week. lately I've been struggling pretty bad but just felt like say you arnt alone and hang in there we are strong creatures. So crazy BP that we both made this realization today that you spoke of at the end. I used to listen to this song all the time when it came out and never realized the real meaning before today. At 41 years old and many years of ups and downs, losing 10 years to addiction and multiple friends along the way. I'm so glad to see that I've finally figured some things out. And I genuinely can't thank you enough for what you do here. Sheesh!!!
Glad you're still here. You were created in the image and likeness of God and therefore you inherently possess value and worth because of who you were patterned after. You're still here. God isn't finished with you. You're here for a reason and have purpose. There is hope, healing, freedom, salvation and eternal life through Christ.
One of the good things about POD is that while they identify with Christian Rock, they don't make their entire focus or base their identity on Christianity, which makes them so much more accessible to non-Christians like myself. I agree that youth in general need help, but they do not need saving and there is a difference between the two. A little assistance goes a long way to establish self-reliance and self-responsibility which is exactly what is needed because if you are constantly coming to someone's rescue not only does it create an imbalanced power dynamic in their life, but it also sets them up to fall even harder when you can't or won't save them for whatever reason. Do what you can to help, but ultimately it is their decision to make.
Your first sentence kinda depends. I myself am not religious at all, and found the band Skillet (Christian Rock Band) by accident. Their texts are heavily influenced by their faith, but they never explicitly use words like god etc. so the first time i listened, i (maybe English as second language did its part too) thought it it was about/towards a girlfriend/wife. I think the song was "Whispers in the Dark". If you know they are Christian their songs can actually make sense in both interpretations, which i found intriguing, listened to them ever since.
Their song "boom" is played at sporting events and such. Check that one out. Also "Satellite", "Alive", "Southtown". "Rock the party (off the hook)" ...that will get you started
It wasn't an accident. There's no such thing as accidents or coincidences. This was something that you needed to hear for some reason. God was reaching out to you through this song. You were created in the image and likeness of God and therefore you inherently possess value and worth because of who you were patterned after. You're still here. God isn't finished with you. You're here for a reason and have purpose. There is hope, healing, freedom, salvation and eternal life through Christ.
I tear up every time I hear it. I was fresh out of highschool and clueless what to do with my life and turning to my peers felt like my only option. It's sad to wonder what it is going to take for us "grownups" to finally listen 😢
This one definitely takes me back, and is almost more relevant today than it was back then!! They actually just released a new album a few weeks ago, and they are still touring! U should check out some of their new stuff!
Oh man. So glad you're reacting to this one. As a young Christian in the 90's, P.O.D. broke the mold for me on what Christian music could be. This song hits hard.
so true. they even had a song in an album that had to be removed for it to be sold in the Christian bookstores because it had swearing in it. Their music is real and raw and pushes the boundaries of a lot of Christians who hide from addressing the serious issues going on with mental health.
That didn’t happen until like 2017. But they did have a record banned in most Christian music stores because of the album artwork. The original artwork for “Snuff the Punk” was banned because it had an angel pointing a gun to the head of a demon. And then their major label debut was banned originally because it was seen as “occultic”. It was finally allowed in Christian stores when Atlantic Records put on a black slipcover that only had the head of the meditating wood guy cut out. And then 15 years later you get a Christian band putting an actual naked woman on the album cover and a different Christian band saying “fuck” in a song. Weird how time changed. Source: I used to work in Christian music
Great song, bruh, this one hits. HARD. Especially in the last two decades, this is a huge issue that only seems to get worse. After this, you need to check out "BOOM." It's such a fun song, dude. Sports anthem material. There's not a lot of people who react to it, and I think that's insane. Peace, man.
Mental illness is something that has been overlooked or ignored for years, decades, centuries. As a teenager, I was told to just cheer up, it will pass. Just smile. I lived. I made it. It sucked. But I got help. Some people didnt. There was a huge outcry in music during the late 90s that we still see today. From Korn to POD to Falling in Reverse to Ren...and so many in between. I dont feel alone in my struggles but I was one of the lucky ones. Im just glad that as years go on, talking about mental illness is becoming more socially acceptable and people arent being told to just hide it anymore. Hiding it kills.
I am 34 now, but inside I am still that youth of the nation... Singing this song when coming back from school in 2003. Singing this song at the concert in Minsk in 2013. I endlessly love the band and I am not even a Christian XD But their music always helped me in my rough times, I even made a small tattoo of the letter "O" (from the band's logo) as a talisman :)
My son was 10 when this came out & was just really getting into music. He LOVED this song but admittedly, when I heard the lyrics it gave me pause. We had a long talk about what the lyrics meant. It was definitely a "teachable moment" Great reaction, BP!❤
Awesome song with a powerful deep message. "told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat" that line punches me in the gut every time. Great reaction! Peace!
Skillet is a headliner with POD opening for them on the tour I saw them. Skillet is a heavy metal Christian band react to The Resistance and watch one of the most amazing drummers.
Awesome reaction! My favorite line in this song, or rather the one that hits hardest for me is: "He was never really one of the guys, no matter how hard he tried, often thought of suicide. You cross a line and there's no turning back, told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat." That always got me. Being bullied in school and trying to fit in puts you in a mindset sometimes, where if it wasn't for faith and family that could have been me I would love to see you react to "Satellite," my next fav song on that album.❤
These lines hits me so hard every time I hear the song. So powerful. "You cross the line and there's no turning back Told the world how he felt With the sound of a gat"
My grandad R.I.P. drove their tour bus back when I was in high school and the drummer Wuv and him checked me out of school to hang out and go fishing. Such a great group and amazing down to earth guys. So nice and amazing people. 1 love.
Their current drummer is the husband of Titiana from Jinjer. They released a song with her that is pretty good. POD and Jinjer toured together recently, and this song still slaps live. The crowd singing the chorus gave me goosebumps.
Back when I i was in college I dated this young woman who had a brother still in high school at a christian school. This was his school's graduation song. 🤯
This is one of those songs, everytime i hear it again, its still fire!! i think its best P.O.D song, they do have a couple of more good ones, but i think this is the best..
BROOOOOO you got it with this one bro this is it and was it!! Happy to say they are still rocking so many gems.... You have to hear the one about when he lost his mother oh man fire 🔥 Holy fire ..... One thing about Christian music it is now better than regular secular music not only because of the lyrics but also the rhythms are compatible even better than some of the great secular songs out there not like before pick a genre and you will hear absolutely amazing Christian music on par with anything else out there...... God bless you bro I'm going to join up with you to support!
I absolutely love POD! Check out their song Alive. Some additional Christian rock bands include Skillet, Switchfoot, and Jars of Clay. Enjoy! Also, thank you so much for all you do! I really appreciate how you don’t take 💩 and speak your mind. Keep on keepin’ on! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I was 12/13 when this came out and I remember this hitting so hard. it still does. I hadn't heard this song in such a long time and listening to it with you while watching the video literally brought tears to my eyes. it's a very powerful song! POD does have some bangers, keep checking them out.
@blackpegasusraps, so glad you checked this out. I never mentioned it because I assumed (and you know what happens when you assume😂) you had to have heard it. That being said, please check out “What It’s Like” by Everlast and “The Kids Aren’t Alright” by the Offspring for two more great songs in this lane. #blackpegasus
POD was my jam back in the early 00's. Such a different sound; different feeling behind their music. Should also check out BOOM, Satellite and Alive. Their biggest songs outside this one
Really nice guys, they're cousins of mine. Never knew they were POD until I was talking about the band one day and my family looked at me and just said "those are your cousins". Had no idea lmfao.
Hello. I never watched you before, but you got it. I felt goosebumps watching you and it made my day better. I grew up with these guys. I love the message and I love your reaction. Thank you so much. You got the assignment sir and you elaborated brilliantly. Thank you for sharing that moment with the world. We owe you one.
It's an incredibly great American Teenage anthem, very catchy and Haunting at the same time, I was 21 and going through it myself so it's definitely nostalgic.
Also, this song was inspired by the tragic events of March 5, 2001, at Santana High School in Santee, California. On that day, 15-year-old Charles Williams brought his father's gun to school and fired 30 shots, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to 13 others. The incident occurred near where P.O.D. was recording at the time, which further influenced the song.
POD was one of those bands that got so much radio play everyone started to hate them. But the reason they got so much play was because their songs were dope
When this song came out we had a attempted school shooter at my HS. It hit hard for us at the time. Lee wasn’t coming to school with a gun to shoot the teachers…. He was coming for US
Introduced to P.O.D. in college. Loved them, went to see them in concert a few times, but alas, grew away from the crowd that intro'd me to them and nearly forgot about them until Octane on S/XM Radio released new material and then said some figure on how many other studio releases they had, and I was like, whoa I'd forgotten about them. Thanks for a trip down memory lane. Sorta a time I'd like to not remember, but I always had my music to help.
I understand why, as a Christian, you feel like science is indoctrination. But, science isn't a belief. It's a method. It's a way to verify hypotheses and theories. People don't "believe" in science. They respect the evidence that is presented, based on verifiable and repeatable results. I love your reactions. I've been subscribed for over a year. It's ok to believe in a higher power, but to refer to science as indoctrination shows a piece of ignorance (the lack of knowledge, not rudeness) on your part.
not all science, but a portion of science that is important has been hijacked by corporations, manipulating studies. It goes as far back as the tobacco industry and sugar industry. Currently you see it with seed oils and pharmaceuticals. Science is a method, but it’s also utilized as a form of worship in a sense. We saw that in 2020 when people were getting tattoos of Pfizer
These homies still put on a great show. Saw them before 2020 in a small venue, and again after 2020 in a big venue. Up there actin' like they 20😂❤❤ They were awesome
Satellite, Boom, Alive, Southtown are other Great songs by P.O.D
I agree Alive is their next great one.
Satellite and Southtown are excellent.
Thinking about forever always gets me in tears.
Agreed, good choices.
And Rock the Party, their cover of U2's song Bullet the Blue Sky,
This band has so much range. From rap to rock to funk to punk and jazz. It all hits hard and the lyrics are so powerful
One of my absolute favorite songs by POD.
When we were listing to this in 2001 We were the youth of the nation now we are the mom and dads of the nation😊
Thinking of forever was always my favorite on that album.

Im just glad that as years go on, talking about mental illness is becoming more socially acceptable and people arent being told to just hide it anymore.
Hiding it kills.
Thank you so much for this reaction! Love ya!
It was definitely a "teachable moment"
Great reaction, BP!❤
Awesome song with a powerful deep message. "told the world how he felt
with the sound of a gat" that line punches me in the gut every time. Great reaction! Peace!
Skillet is a headliner with POD opening for them on the tour I saw them. Skillet is a heavy metal Christian band react to The Resistance and watch one of the most amazing drummers.
Awesome reaction! My favorite line in this song, or rather the one that hits hardest for me is:
"He was never really one of the guys, no matter how hard he tried, often thought of suicide. You cross a line and there's no turning back, told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat."
That always got me. Being bullied in school and trying to fit in puts you in a mindset sometimes, where if it wasn't for faith and family that could have been me
I would love to see you react to "Satellite," my next fav song on that album.❤
I'm so sorry that you experienced that.
These lines hits me so hard every time I hear the song. So powerful.
"You cross the line and there's no turning back
Told the world how he felt
With the sound of a gat"
An amazing song. My favorite by P.O.D. is " ALIVE"!
My grandad R.I.P. drove their tour bus back when I was in high school and the drummer Wuv and him checked me out of school to hang out and go fishing. Such a great group and amazing down to earth guys. So nice and amazing people. 1 love.
I was 11 while taking care of my two younger sisters and my drug addict mother and music is how I escaped my daily life
“Told the whole world knows how he felt by the sound of a Gat” really hits hard………
Check out skilet
The violin performances are worth the price of admission alone
Yes. Our Youth have been crying out for generations.
That Johhny Boy verse legitimately saved my life. It was the first time I knew others felt like I did.
❤
Their current drummer is the husband of Titiana from Jinjer. They released a song with her that is pretty good. POD and Jinjer toured together recently, and this song still slaps live. The crowd singing the chorus gave me goosebumps.
Current drummer? He's been their only drummer LOL 😂
This band was a HUGE part of my middle school years. I remember downloading the album this song is on on Limewire so I could burn the cd 🤣
I have been subscribed for years but TH-cam keeps unsubscribing me in seconds
Damn, YT is still hating on my channel 😑
@@BlackPegasusRaps and on many channels that I have followed for years
Checkout 311 Down if you like rap rock. It's a banger
I was in my late 20's when this came out and this song hit me hard back then , the youth is even more lost today !!! So messed up . POD was great !!!!
Hollywood Undead- Young, it's a very similar message to this song for anyone interested
Check out BOOM and SOUTHTOWN 🔥🤘
These guys are great live. Now you're delving into Christian music. One of the few I like. You like this then you'd also like DC Talk
Jesus Freak and What if i stumble - bangers! i always loved Project 86
Finally! Ive been waiting for you to get to this banger!! Boom, Southtown, Alive and Satellite are next ones to check out..
Since you have started to delve into Christian Rock, maybe you might want to check out DC Talk.
P.O.D. just dropped a new album check out I Wont Back Down OR Afraid to Die
Checkout "change the world", "boom", or "alive" for some more POD goodies!
This song among other things is addressing the Columbine massacre of 1999
Also, this song was inspired by the tragic events of March 5, 2001, at Santana High School in Santee, California. On that day, 15-year-old Charles Williams brought his father's gun to school and fired 30 shots, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to 13 others. The incident occurred near where P.O.D. was recording at the time, which further influenced the song.
Just saw them in concert a few weeks ago! Loved listening to them when I was younger!
Payable On Death is the bands actual name 🤘 awesome Christian band. Another one to check out is FlyLeaf
the pictures in the back of the kids are real survivors. i’m 32 now i was in elementary in 2001
Military request here bro- Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery.. thank you!! 🙏
and this is before smart phones and social media. things have only gotton worse
Bruv how did you not hear these songs back in the day growing up? Must of lived a sheltered childhood.
Anyone else who waited for your reaction to the kids singing you didn't disappoint amazing reaction
He was coming for US
When Nü Metal dominated mainstream music. Miss the late '90s and early '00s 🔥
So glad you found this! You gotta check out their music video for "Alive"
Wow I'm watching this and you have me in tears.😢 how time flies true music in the past
The P.O.D song that hooked me was "Southtown". It is a little more aggressive.
The wall and floor of the room they are recording this video in is filled with photos of school children who were fatalities of school shootings.
so close to 300k. well deserved, on the road to half a milly
Dude, you have to go down this rabbit hole.
I'm agnostic. POD never let me down.
Check out their song Southtown.
I absolutely love Sonny, great vocalist and he's so nice to everyone. Satellite was definitely my favorite album, Alive is my favorite P.O.D. song 🤘🏻
Skillet is an excellent Christin rock band. It’s a husband and wife group. She is a bad ass drummer.
Actually, the wife (Korey Cooper) is the Rhythm Guitarist.
This guy has no idea what they are talking about in this song.
These homies still put on a great show. Saw them before 2020 in a small venue, and again after 2020 in a big venue. Up there actin' like they 20😂❤❤
They were awesome
I don't say this about a lot of music but this is an important song.
Makes me thank God for my mom, the world's coolest 😎 human. Miss u, Ma. ❤😊
