It means both amy and frank can ran away against the system( the problems created by humans) to be with each other for 98.5 times out of 100. It means the App suggests the Amy and frank can be the 98.5% perfect match for each other. Its like a moment passed in a whole episode.
Hang The DJ, San Junipero and White Christmas are my three favorite Black Mirrors, followed closely by Nosedive and Be Right Back. The "cookie" tech is both scary as hell and awesome at the same time. So many of the themes and tech in Black Mirror seem so close to what could be real world tech in 10-20 years, it's unnerving. That's part of why I think it resonates with sci-fi fans so much.
@@Kenoboi_42Yes exactly it was so boring lol. Also San Junipero and Hang the DJ are also boring and cliche, I don’t personally see how people like them the most
I thought that until I understood what happened in the end better. I guess the glare on my screen made it hard for me to actually see what was happening in the end... realizing that the Amy and Frank we followed were just one of many versions of themselves, and they didn't get to be together after was a disappointment to me. They didn't even have lives afterwards.
I think both of the episodes can be interpreted in a very dark way. Think of what happens with the pair in San Junipero when one of them.has enough of this afterlife and decides to leave. The black girl would most likely do it before the red haired one because she already lived a very fulfilled life and because she is not as convinced of San Junipero as the other one
There's a movie called "Timer" which has a plot in the somewhat similar realm to this episode. People are given a wrist device that counts down to the day they meet their soulmate. It's pretty cool. It also reminds me of "Lobster", where people are forcefully paired up into relationships.

Yes, this analysis most closely fits my own interpretation, which I've revised through reflection on the episode, as I described in full in my new comment on the main thread. First impression: beautifully romantic. On further reflection...disturbing.
I thought the scene in the bar was real world Amy and Frank when they first met. I just imagined that they were curious on if what they had was real or not (maybe they broke up and were trying to see if they should have) so they make cookies of themselves and put it into the simulation.
Thanks for explaining the name of the episode. That was such a convoluted connection that I would have never figured that out in a million years. I guess about 99.8% of the audience missed that too and were just as baffled by a mysterious name like that. I mean, who could know of an obscure reference like that?
this was one of my favorite episodes so thank you for breaking it down especially about the emotional detachment and how things are always better in your mind. I love The Smiths and when that song played it sunk in more. love your voice btw.
Brooker mentioned the idea of Spotify playlists, algorithmically generated, that try to match your mood, and how this reminded him of dating apps that try and match you with the 'perfect' person. DJs essentially do playlist mixes of songs. But the song 'Panic' was also taking a swipe at commercial pop in the 80s, and how bad it was, hence the refrain 'Hang the DJ'.
I watched it a long while ago and i came back to watch it again on Netflix, this episode touches my heart in so many different ways. I watched this whole series on Acid ! I am Obsessed, i wished they continued!
good lord i can never get sick of this guy. these black mirror analysis videos are so good, and the way you put together your words is just so satisfying to me. keep it up bro love the content!!
I got something totally different out of this episode. The whole time they were worried that they weren’t going to be with their heart’s desires. They were attracted to each other and time was short but the second time around Frank was too afraid to trust the system. Similar to trusting the universe. In the end, as they rebelled because of fear of not being matched together, there see they were meant to be together all along. I believe, had they trusted the system, they would’ve been picked for each other on pairing day. As it was proved in the simulation in the end.
They wouldn't be paired by the system. The girl asked the system if she already knew the final partner she was going to be match or not and system told her that no.
@@V.R_ yeah but that was after Frank checked the expiry date, which changed it and possibly changed the system's final decision. so we can't rlly know what would have happened if he never checked.
Thanks for the vid! So many details you always pick up in. I was not happy for the real Any and Frank in the end. Because “Coach” still lived. And it seemed that even if “Coach” brought them together, they’d end up trusting the device / phone app rather than each other.
I think another detail that was very important was that they should check on their expiration date at the same time. Even though the idea of an expiration date for a relationship is ridiculous, there is still the idea that both people need to agree to look at something otherwise the result will get skewed because there is no clear communication and agreement that is being respected by both people.
Whoa... I was just listening to the spotify DJ yesterday and getting frustrated at how little it knows about my music tastes. So now watching this today and making this connection with this episode. Crazy...
Watched yesterday and liked so much. I already had this kind of feeling about relationship and life. This episode is exactly what happened in Matt Damon and Emily Blunt movie, The Adjustment Bureau. Good vibes for y'all.
Yea as i saw the ending them vanishing, i remember the cookie thing, so yea i think also before they signed up in the app they registered in the cookie thing to get their consience attach to the app system. Very nice ending. Their cookie beat the system and found a perfect match ♥️
Hang the DJ is my favorite Black Mirror episode--but... My first impression was that the ending was deeply lovely and romantic. At first I thought that all of those simulations were different incarcerations of the characters and that the dazzling spectacle was a representation of divine intervention liberating them from an inhuman man-made system keeping them apart and forcing them into intimacy with strangers. But now that I understand that all those versions of the protagonists are sentient simulations and what I thought was transcendence of the system is actually the culmination of the system... The enslavement and coerced intimacy the simulation beings went through to arrive at the possibly happy ending for their real world counterparts is disturbing. I'm glad the creator intended to make a more optimistic episode. But maybe his rather dark imagination couldn't help creating a happier ending with disturbing implications. Too bad my mis-reading wasn't the really story...
I also thought that they were floating up to reality at the end of the simulation - and that they'd remember the experiences and have a bond in the real world. (I also had some trouble seeing the end because the screen was dark and it was pretty light outside when I watched - so I didn't see that there were multiple versions of Amy and Frank).
Here is the irony-you note that the beings (sentient or otherwise) are under extreme duress to get the right amount of stimulation whether for a desired result, or to run the sim. We rooted for the simulations due to the amount of stress they went through and because of all we had been through with them. Now think of all of the episodes of Black Mirror you've watched? How many had happy endings? Almost none. Even the ones who had sympathetic characters. Maybe you also loved the episode because of how you were conditioned, after finally finding a happy ending, much like the sims.
Black Mirror is not Black Mirror without this analysis.. it reveals us what might expect us in the future.. like a time mashine! We evolve in a different world just like Amy and Frank got transported to a different galaxy..
Black Mirror never fails to surprise. I literally thought that's already the story. Then it's just simulation. But to be honest, simulation does not really fit with Black Mirror, it's all just Programming Language codes. Copies of their Cookies? That's how easy it is to upload in this "Tinder" like app? Otherwise, One of my favorite definitely! The love story is better than Twilight.
It says at the end of the episode they didn't match 2 times. This was when each of them truly found their 1 with another character we didn't see off screen.
Actually I understand it more like two times they "settled" for a random pairing instead of being brave enough to rebel, but they were meant for each other anyway, they are each other's "one"
Another great thought twister! I originally thought this was a happy ending too, but if they are just cookies that can't live on together then i'm not so sure?
Very interesting take on it Bryce. After I watched it I got this thought. Maybe what we're watching is Amy, Frank and all the other characters as a "real person" acting the part of the 1's and 0's in the computers dating app. Maybe each relationship is the simulation playing out the game so to speak.
My question is why was it testing for rebellions agesnt the system and rates that the more rebellions as a “positive” result Like “you’re so compatible you’ll overthrow the entire system just to be with each other” And if you don’t rebel then you’ll settle for anything (margin or error)
I just started watching the show on Netflix, I like it so far. The episode mention on this clip about the girl being a slave, is it on this show? I’m watching it in order and I haven’t seen that yet.
Well the system was in fact always right. lol Great episode. I've never watched this before... and THis episode... and the newer Aaron Paul episode are the first ones I've chosen to watch. And already I LOVE the way its so detailed with hints and symbolisms like that.
I've been reading lots of comments saying they've been single for a long time and it's hard for them to find their half so.. Idk if this would help but i just wanna tell u to not focus on finding that specific one just live ur life enjoy with family and make lots of friends, with time ur eye will be opened to things and ur heart will choose the right one... Im 26yo in 7 years long distance relationship and 2 months of marriage haha..best of luck everyone
I think they got a happy ending and got married or something cause the simulation versions of them don’t matter and they actually exist in the real world.
Okay I've always wondered what the hell the title had to do with the episode content but learning that morrisey wrote the song as a result of chernobyl is 1 wild and 2 fascinating! It all makes so much sense now 😅
They’re not cookies, they’re apart of a simulation as it says. So they don’t die at the end of the simulation the simulation just ends they don’t feel anything
This episode was a nightmare and I don't understand why Charlie Brooker (or anyone) would see it as uplifting. It's torturing virtual slaves for the sake of their owner's happiness. Other Black Mirror episodes have shown us what it means to torture virtual people. How can anyone see this as a happy ending? Consider this: in Black Mirror's world, your life *right now* could be a simulation for some other being to benefit from. Horrifying.
It’s a happy ending because the couple proved spiritually & statistically that they are the perfect match. The software cannot yield a positive outcome without real human input. I don’t see this as torturous, because this is the very nature of real human love. The depth of that love will be tested time & time again, & if isn’t true- it will disintegrate. This is also the premise of human existence. It is only the genuine pursuit of endeavours with pure intentions/high commitment that will yield long lasting results. Just listen to the average story of an entrepreneur. They are tested, try & fail so many times- yet it is their unwavering commitment to their dream that yields the ultimate victory. … & like the simulation, many people buy into the theory that if they dared to try escaping the system/go it alone, be their own boss & take charge of their own lives without relying on the government/some other higher force… they would ultimately perish, or suffer some other deleterious fate. Many would rather invest complete faith in the system & stay locked in it forever, doing the rounds waiting to meet their promised destiny- & to achieve the ultimate reward which is to be told that said destiny has been achieved ie the couple that got married, not realising you have basically committed yourself to remaining in the simulation forever- all under the guise of finding your perfect match.
@BryceEdwardBrown thank you!!! I misses a Black Mirror Episode analysis. Please analyze the Men Against Fire Episode on Black Mirror!!!! Please!!!!!!!!

Can u repeat your comment in simple English? 😂😂😂
I love episodes like this. Great analysis ❤️
Thank you so much!
Long time no see ! Keep the good work coming
Thank you, will do!
Loving these videos 📹 they're so insightful ❤️ 💙
Here is the irony-you note that the beings (sentient or otherwise) are under extreme duress to get the right amount of stimulation whether for a desired result, or to run the sim. We rooted for the simulations due to the amount of stress they went through and because of all we had been through with them. Now think of all of the episodes of Black Mirror you've watched? How many had happy endings? Almost none. Even the ones who had sympathetic characters. Maybe you also loved the episode because of how you were conditioned, after finally finding a happy ending, much like the sims.
Do you have plans to make Twilight Zone (the original one) videos too? I like your analysis. They’re interesting!
This breakdown was really appreciated. Thank you ❤
It says at the end of the episode they didn't match 2 times.
You truly are a Talent sir
Very interesting take on it Bryce. After I watched it I got this thought. Maybe what we're watching is Amy, Frank and all the other characters as a "real person" acting the part of the 1's and 0's in the computers dating app. Maybe each relationship is the simulation playing out the game so to speak.
At 7:46 when he said cookies a Chips Ahoy commercial came on 🌚
It was an oreo ad for me 😂
2:36 FACTS, needed to hear that
Hopefully you liked it!
HangDJ, TestGame and White Christmas are the coolest hands down. Tons of cool concepts in this one
“It’s safe to assume that the copies of Amy and Frank were cookies-” immediate Oreo add…
This is just the best
that episode made me really emotional ❤
My question is why was it testing for rebellions agesnt the system and rates that the more rebellions as a “positive” result
Like “you’re so compatible you’ll overthrow the entire system just to be with each other”
And if you don’t rebel then you’ll settle for anything (margin or error)
I just started watching the show on Netflix, I like it so far. The episode mention on this clip about the girl being a slave, is it on this show? I’m watching it in order and I haven’t seen that yet.
It’s the White Christmas episode
This is first ep in 'bm' that could make me cry i loved it
8:24 Is she the same actress as Marnie from Misfits??
This episode without a doubt has my favorite ending of all Black Mirror.
Well the system was in fact always right. lol Great episode. I've never watched this before... and THis episode... and the newer Aaron Paul episode are the first ones I've chosen to watch. And already I LOVE the way its so detailed with hints and symbolisms like that.
Holy fuck you’re great at these analysis videos
This and San Junipero.. my heart ❤️ ahhhh
Will you also break down Lovecraft Country on HBO?
Good suggestion, I am really interested in talking about that show! HBO has been putting out such great content lately
If only this was real :/ #ForeverAloneClub
03:20 and 3:40 and 3:49
Loooooved this episode 😭😭😭
Same!
I was so pessimistic thinking this one was going to be one of those sad episodes. Happy it gets a happy ending.
Damn this cat is THOROUGH. Subbed!
Haha thank you!
The thing is I don’t get it is why is the episode called hang the DJ? The only mention of a DJ is at the end
03:27
what is the name of the font you're using?
How about a breakdown of Bandersnatch?
I want cookies now for some reason
@BryceEdwardBrown thank you!!! I misses a Black Mirror Episode analysis. Please analyze the Men Against Fire Episode on Black Mirror!!!! Please!!!!!!!!
Ive never seen the characters as cookies, just as the whole thing as a representation of info for what it takes to get a match.
Hang the Dj Hang the Dj.. Hang the Dj Hang the Dj
This episode annoyed me with how they are basically slaves to a broken system
My favorite BM episode.
I think I missed season 4....I fell asleep to 1 episode and woke up several times to unknown eps. This sounds harsh to the show but every bit of this show is valuable. I'm not saying 100% of it is perfect. I have to say though, so much of it is and what is not is still valuable. I mean, come on....not every episode can have the superhuman relevance of Men Against Fire. That ep should have libraries of essays and books written on it. God save us all.
The only thing I am wondering is did Amy and frank know who each other were when they saw each other in the pub?
Didn’t you already do this one? I swear I’ve watched every video of every episode?....??????
Sometimes youtube takes videos down for silly reasons, sometimes you have to edit something out and reupload, etc.
xsullengirlx Usually they would have in the description: * *reuploaded* * so people don’t get confused
I saw this and a 3 year old version, so I picked this one - so the other is still up.
It probably was in your previous simulation and you haven’t got your memory reset properly.
☯️ I was ruminating over which Black Mirror episodes would make my top 4 list. Lol. Anyhow, I’m not sure this were intended, but regarding the separate circles that ultimately conjoin; isn’t that the sign of infinity?... - & regarding infinity; isn’t ‘infinity’ what our hopes & aspirations are once we find our soul mate?... - the yin conjoining with the yang creating that everlasting dynamic beyond time & space... ♾
What's up with Amy and Greta's cookies?
Is that community cookie?
Are they for the streets 😂😂
This could totally be happening behind the scenes of dating apps
