  • Being a makeup artist isn't just about how well you can do makeup...it involves A LOT more! One the most important things in this industry is being HYGENIC! I've seen a ton of makeup artists that do not know how to properly sanitize the items in their makeup kit. With the recently pandemic and other diseases that can be spread, being sanitary is one of the top things to know when becoming a makeup artist.

    Way back in cosmetology school, my instructor made us cut off all the applicators that came with our products lol. Pretty good way to keep you in the habit of being sanitary!

      Yes I have heard of people doing that! I think it’s a great thing to do to not be tempted to use the actual applicator on clients.

A lot of the sanitizing techniques are similar to what I learned years ago but it was GREAT to hear an update about gels and liners as well as affirm some of my own practices. I love the single use applicators. I also like the acrylic palette as putting stuff on the back of your hand like some people do might seem innocent enough to you but some people might not appreciate having stuff put on their face that was sitting on your skin just a moment ago

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes! I feel the exact same way! I’m not going to lie, I originally got trained to work off the back of my hand and then a year in realized that people are not 100% down with that at all times.

    Hi Julie, first off just a big thank you for all your positive affirmations within your content you certainly have given me the confidence to reignite my mua journey after a looong hiatus. Moving forward into the bridal industry was hoping you might come up w a video about ur fav brushes as buying many multiples to have sets for each client especially when working w larger groups is smart but also u would have minimal in ur individual sets so talking through this would be useful aswell as perhaps where u buy lashes in bulk. I’m a little apprehensive of some of the bulk packs on line which work out economical but unsure of quality???

      Hi Electra! I am so happy that you’ve been enjoying all of the videos and they’ve been helpful for you starting up again :) I actually have done a brush belt tour on my channel already and really don’t have favorites necessarily. All of them technically are 😂 As far as lashes go, you can buy bulk lashes from Frends Beauty and also get a pro discount on them as well. I personally buy the Ardell Naked lashes for most all my clients now but unfortunately there’s no buying in bulk for those.

    Hi Julie! You can SANITIZE sponges! Soak them in antibacterial dish soap to remove product. While wet pop them in the microwave for a few minutes. The high temp and radiation kills bacteria. Also can be done with your dish sponges. For those who love sponges. 😆😆😆😆😆 love your videos and watching you grow 🌱

The ones advertised for cleaning glasses and phones work perfectly. • @julieruby
      @julieruby  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I have time, but most of the time I’ll have to pack all my things up really quickly and get out of whatever room I’m in. I will however spray everything down with alcohol and let them dry for maybe 5 mins while I’m packing up the rest of my stuff but sometimes I just have to throw everything into my bag and get it depending on timing. It won’t hurt the products necessarily just make sure to clean them really well once you get home.

    Im a brush liner person that’s the best way I can apply liner. I buy the nyx epic ink it’s one of my faves and it’s 9 dollars and i give it to my client at the end of the service same with sponges and puffs

      Oh good for you! I’ve never been able to do a liquid liner on others that well. I would maybe suggest using a liner disposable .. it may save you a bit of money instead of spending the $9 each time.

      Any cream products have to be scooped out and put onto a sanitized palette. Creams are too thick for alcohol to penetrate.

      No you can reuse all powders :) You just have to sanitize them with 70% alcohol at the end of each application.

    • @julieruby

      I’ve always been told to use Isopropyl- I really don’t know what the chemical difference is but that’s what other artists have suggested.

    What electronic signature service provider do you go through for your contracts to have them signed electronically? I'm doing a trial run with DocuSign but I don't know if I want to commit because it's pricey. I might try hello sign. But just curious what you use.

    So, in my state we don't need verification or a licensed just do to makeup for others but I would like to have SOME credentials for freelance gigs.
    But I have no idea where to look for courses besides online
    Is that even legit online?

      You’re lucky you don’t have to get it, but I do agree that it’s smart to still have some credentials and try to get formal training :) I personally took the Online Makeup Academy courses and I really enjoyed them. I do have hands on training as well, but I do think the course really went over a lot! I have a review of it on my channel!

    • @julieruby

      I don't personally use actually powder puffs. If you're referring sponges...no you can't sanitize or wash those. They absorb product which means they'll always be bacteria that can harbor in the middle.

    For the cream lipstick depot pallate, at 5:44 when you scoop out product n then place it on the clear pallate and then a brush, can't i just use the brush directly on the lipstick pallate? But not re-dipping, in the same manner as the mascara

    May be a silly question but you are saying once a (let’s say eyeshadow) brush has been dipped into a palette once and used on a client, it cannot be dipped back into a different shade of the same palette again for the same client?

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha no worries! You can definitely work with a palette like normal - placing a brush in a powder multiple times. Once you are done though, the palette has to be sprayed down with alcohol. It’s only cross contamination if you are not doing this in between each person.

    • @julieruby

    • @julieruby
      @julieruby  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a great question! Using alcohol directly will dry out the brushes and cause the hairs to fall out. I use Cinema secrets which is a spot cleaner, but it’s not 100% hygienic. This is why I choose to bring enough sets of brushes for the amount of people that I’m doing that job. I only use the spot cleaner if I’m switching colors for the same client.
