I wash my makeup brushes RELIGIOUSLY.
I once had an eye infection and my eye swelled shut..... 5 days before I was to be married! (I picked up a bacterial infection and for whatever reason it effected my eye first. I got antibiotics and eye drops and it cleared up in time for the wedding!)
That chaos made me REALLY CRAZY CAREFUL about my eyes and how to keep them healthy.

I wash my natural hair expensive brushes every other time or even every time. I know they might not last as long but I can't deal with them not being "clean" or the pigments mixing either. They say to wash them once a month. I cannot NOT wash my brushes either 😂 I also use conditioner after cleansing and it does help keep them soft tho

@@DanielleNicoleMakeup I use the Walmart knockoff of Dr. Bronners peppermint castile soap to wash my brushes and it works really well without damaging them.
A friend is a makeup artist and she said that's what she uses so I was like, "if it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me" lol

Makeup brushes are an investment. If we look after them, they will last for years. I have expensive brushes so I clean all brushes I've used every week. I've got a lot of brushes so I don't need to keep using a dirty brush. I love using Dr Bronner's pure soap liquid. It's gentle and I've been using it for a long time now.

my favourite thing for drying is to lay a towel flat on my desk and the edge at the back i roll forward until it forms a little sausage/sushi roll at the back. then i can prop the handles on that part and the brush angled toward the front of my desk and it means if any water did get in the barrel it can run down and out!! :-)

Fun lil hack to hang your brushes: use a hair tie and loop it around the brush and attach it to a bar or handle or towel rack etc. loop it once around the brush, pull the hair tie behind the horizontal bar of choice, then loop it back again onto the brush. It’ll hold it upside down perfectly so the glue doesn’t get messed up and it dries properly.

During lockdown in 2020, I threw out all my brushes and gradually started to buy new ones. I began to watch Alicia Archer (KinkySweat) and that was the beginning of the end. She has the BEST brush reviews and tutorials. I started to learn about, appreciate, and buy Fude brushes and you’d better believe I learned how to clean them. Since I have several of each kind now as well as several sets- ( Sonya G., Wayne Goss, and Sigma, including your brush set ( I LOVE the 4DHD precision). I can go a week and not clean them. Every weekend I take the group of used ones and do my little cleaning ritual and actually enjoy it. ( mind you, I’m retired) I let them hang in the holder for at least 48 hours. Thanks for the sink hint.I was using a shallow bowl and changed the water 2-3 times. Your idea is easier.

She said she submerged the brushes in water for 10 minutes like she does all her brushes and these ones cracked….. I wanted to tell her that I wouldn’t soak anything wooden fir any length of time…. The glue aside, it’s a bad idea if you want to keep it

Once I'm done, and have rinsed, I roll a large towel until there's just enough left out to catch the water and place the handles on the rolled bit and bristles on the flat bit, natural angle to keep brushes in an angle to prevent water going up. This video has reminded me I need to clean my brushes again so thank you ❤️

I love this video, thanks for letting us know how to clean our brushes properly 🙏🏽🤗
I use a two step process that takes 2-4 minutes for my Blendiful/Cosmetic Puffy thingy , I use my pre-cleanse oil/balm for the foundation/concealer on it, rinse the oil and after that I take a gentle face wash, squish the soap around a minute and rinse again….it gets it so clean 🧼 🤗🤣🥰🙌🏽

Omg we clean our brushes exactly the same !!! Exact ! I was like better watch this to make sure I'm on top of my game! Fully prepared to change my style, omg I'm so proud of me 🥰🥰🥰
    I'm a mua...of 10 years..and I consider you standards !!! ❤
As you were filling the sink ...my heart stopped ! The exact same as my sink 🥰 I keep a sink set up like that all the time...my son cleans brushes for pocket monies like this too :) ... at the end of the week...there's like a huge bucket of brushes and bits sometimes ( I have multiple sets that I rotate through...in busy times) 😅

As usual you r on point. I remember my basics and usually learn something as well.
I have 5 boxes of brushes to wash!! I hate cleaning them so I have waay too many.
I like clothes pins to hang brushes. I also use keep my cinema secrets on hand. Despite the strong smell!!
I use baby shampoo or use my sample size shampoos that stack up.
    When drying I reshape..
I keep lysol wipes nearby to wipe down the handle and ferrule (spelling) I make sure the wipes are only damp. When cleaning my brushes I also clean out my brush containers

After every use of my brushes I "rub" them on a damp microfiber cloth to remove most of the makeup from the bristles. Makes deep cleaning so much easier!

Such a coincidence that I cleaned my brushes this morning...so happy that I'm doing it correctly (according to this video)...I definitely have to remember to wash them more frequently.

DONT SOUP YOUR BRUSHES!! 😄 You want to treat them like two of your favorite brushes had a baby and you are giving it its first bath. 🥰 I love that soo much. You are so fabulous, Robert. 😘

Thank you so much for making this type of video!! My friend has been washing her makeup brushes by putting water and soap in a bowl and just tossing all her brushes into it and soaking them like 4" deep in the soapy water for like 30+ mins and then rinsing them, and it drives me crazy!!!! I keep telling her it's going to ruin the brushes and now she's actually seeing the bristles and tops falling off and the wooden handles splitting, but still won't stop because she thinks this is how you're supposed to clean them. I'm going to make her watch this video and hopefully Robert can talk some sense into her. It breaks my heart to see these nice brushes literally cracking, splintering, and basically rotting from the inside.

Have you ever seen the pool noodle with the notches cut in it to dry brushes in a downward method? I made one and added a cut long ways so it hooks onto the edge of the counter. I wish I could attach a pic here.

I use a microfiber cloth to gently knock powder off my brushes before I wash them. I don't really like the color switches because they get dirty and washing them is a pain in the ass. I'll keep a cloth on hand for doing my makeup too so I can quickly change colors. It's all personal preferences though. 🖤🖤

When I didn’t really do or wear a lot of makeup I would NEVER clean the makeup brushes I owned. Then, when I got into makeup and tried to do eyeshadow and it would always come out the same color-a muddy brown, I found out it was because of my dirty brushes. Also, when I got into skin care (a few couple years ago) I learned how bad it is for your skin hygiene. I keep a clear cylinder specifically for my used brushes. I always buy multiple brushes if the ones I like and use the most, so I rotate between them. I spray clean right after I use them and do a once a week deep cleanse. It’s like a therapeutic ritual. It’s actually very satisfying watching color come out. I like (and use) that beauty blender black soap thing and the elf brush shampoo; and I find those work really well for me. I also use an electric cleaner to dry my brushes but you mentioned that’s not good for your brushes so I’ll stop that.

I have started using a very small amount of laundry stain spray called Shout (not bleach) on my stained brushes. Since i have started using this, i have not encountered a stain that will not come out. My brushes look quite literally as good as new, even if i've used waterproof gel pot eyeliner, brow pomade, deep shades liquid lipstick, and pressed pigments.
