I wash my makeup brushes RELIGIOUSLY.
I once had an eye infection and my eye swelled shut..... 5 days before I was to be married! (I picked up a bacterial infection and for whatever reason it effected my eye first. I got antibiotics and eye drops and it cleared up in time for the wedding!)
That chaos made me REALLY CRAZY CAREFUL about my eyes and how to keep them healthy.

I wash my natural hair expensive brushes every other time or even every time. I know they might not last as long but I can't deal with them not being "clean" or the pigments mixing either. They say to wash them once a month. I cannot NOT wash my brushes either 😂 I also use conditioner after cleansing and it does help keep them soft tho

@@DanielleNicoleMakeup I use the Walmart knockoff of Dr. Bronners peppermint castile soap to wash my brushes and it works really well without damaging them.

Makeup brushes are an investment. If we look after them, they will last for years. I have expensive brushes so I clean all brushes I've used every week. I've got a lot of brushes so I don't need to keep using a dirty brush. I love using Dr Bronner's pure soap liquid. It's gentle and I've been using it for a long time now.

My friend who had super bad acne used to dump all of her brushes in soapy water then rinse them clean. I gave her one of my brushes in exchange of cutting one of hers open. THE MOOLLLDDD! I told her that’s why she shouldn’t get the barrel wet. She got new brushes and her skin is much better now.

my favourite thing for drying is to lay a towel flat on my desk and the edge at the back i roll forward until it forms a little sausage/sushi roll at the back. then i can prop the handles on that part and the brush angled toward the front of my desk and it means if any water did get in the barrel it can run down and out!! :-)

Fun lil hack to hang your brushes: use a hair tie and loop it around the brush and attach it to a bar or handle or towel rack etc. loop it once around the brush, pull the hair tie behind the horizontal bar of choice, then loop it back again onto the brush. It’ll hold it upside down perfectly so the glue doesn’t get messed up and it dries properly.

During lockdown in 2020, I threw out all my brushes and gradually started to buy new ones. I began to watch Alicia Archer (KinkySweat) and that was the beginning of the end. She has the BEST brush reviews and tutorials. I started to learn about, appreciate, and buy Fude brushes and you’d better believe I learned how to clean them. Since I have several of each kind now as well as several sets- ( Sonya G., Wayne Goss, and Sigma, including your brush set ( I LOVE the 4DHD precision). I can go a week and not clean them. Every weekend I take the group of used ones and do my little cleaning ritual and actually enjoy it. ( mind you, I’m retired) I let them hang in the holder for at least 48 hours. Thanks for the sink hint.I was using a shallow bowl and changed the water 2-3 times. Your idea is easier.

When I was a teenager I had this big fluffy powder brush that I just loved and it was so cute, but I was in a pinch to get it dry for the next day's makeup so I tried to use a hairdryer on high heat to dry it.... Bless my heart... The ends of the bristles fried and curled up and got crunchy! It was awful. I practically had to give it a funeral to have the courage to get rid of it lol

I was so scared to watch this for fear of doing it wrong! Instead of a mat, I use the palm of my hand and I put just a dollop of shampoo on the hand and massage through. Once I'm done, and have rinsed, I roll a large towel until there's just enough left out to catch the water and place the handles on the rolled bit and bristles on the flat bit, natural angle to keep brushes in an angle to prevent water going up. This video has reminded me I need to clean my brushes again so thank you ❤️

Thank you so much for making this type of video!! My friend has been washing her makeup brushes by putting water and soap in a bowl and just tossing all her brushes into it and soaking them like 4" deep in the soapy water for like 30+ mins and then rinsing them, and it drives me crazy!!!! I keep telling her it's going to ruin the brushes and now she's actually seeing the bristles and tops falling off and the wooden handles splitting, but still won't stop because she thinks this is how you're supposed to clean them. I'm going to make her watch this video and hopefully Robert can talk some sense into her. Hi, Robert! Something I've done to help my brushes dry faster is I just head to my shower with the clean brush right after "squeezing" extra water from rinsing it and hold it tight, make a few firm strokes downward and let the centrifugal force push the water out. Nothing too intense, no crazy shaking. It will remove so much water! We have cold, humid winters and dense brushes can take a few days to dry naturally here, so I tried this method and it helped! So far, none of my brushes have needed replacement and I've done it for a few years! Hope you won't have to use the radiator as much anymore 💜

Love the beach and shore analogy! 🏖 I saw an MUA who sells extremely expensive brushes give a tutorial once and her end step was to let them dry standing up in the expensive jar she also sells 😩🤨🙅🏻‍♀️ Zero Jackies Robert how do you feel about solid brush cleansers - they come in those little round containers? That’s what I use and I hope they’re ok but I end up having to clean the soap at the end which seems crazy to “clean the soap” but I gently swirl the brush on the solid bar and that leaves it icky 🧼

I have been waiting for this video!!!!! So glad you did it and did a great job. I am a fine art artist and the things people do to their brushes makes my skin crawl and makes me want to shriek and cry. Especially with how much makeup brushes cost. Thank you for being so in depth and for explaining the hygienic side of why the dos and donts. People take for granted why things are done a certain way and then complain about application when they don't get results. Thank you thank you thank you

To lay ur brushes downwards when drying: If u get a very large clean cutting board, you can lie a tea towel over it and prop one end up, so it is slopeing downwards. Then lay ur brushes on top and the water will drain out.

Weird that this video was posted today.....I cleaned my brushes yesterday.....I use my cleansing soap bar. I gently push to get the make up off and rinse until the water is clear. I also dry them flat. Great video :)

Thank you so much for doing this video. As weird as it may sound, cleaning brushes is a part of makeup I have always struggled with. 1) because I hate it and it’s super annoying 2) because I’ve frayed or damaged so many of them on accident. Seeing you describe this and break it down is so helpful in taking care of my tools

I clean my brushes all the time. I do not use dawn dish soap ever! It has ruined many of my brushes, specifically my IT cosmetic brushes and those not cheap. I do everything you said too, so you know your stuff! Im obsessed with using brush cleaner and its the only thing that truly gets my brushes 100% clean. Use beauty blender solid on those brushes you have a hard time getting the color out of, they work so great! Though someone did tell me using ZOTE ( its a laundry bar they sell it for like a $1 in walmart I believe) is supposed to remove any stain. I haven't personally tried it, but I want to lol

I love this video, thanks for letting us know how to clean our brushes properly 🙏🏽🤗
I use a two step process that takes 2-4 minutes for my Blendiful/Cosmetic Puffy thingy , I use my pre-cleanse oil/balm for the foundation/concealer on it, rinse the oil and after that I take a gentle face wash, squish the soap around a minute and rinse again….it gets it so clean 🧼 🤗🤣🥰🙌🏽

Hi Robert, thank you so much for this video. I really appreciate your knowledge base and expertise. Would you please do a brush 101 video? There are so many shapes, textures, sizes, etc. and all I hear is “use your favorite brush to…”. I need help knowing what brush does what and I’m overwhelmed. HELP!

I also have Amazon brush cleaner sets where it comes with a bowl you buy cleaner on the side and it’s electronic and the brush spins rapidly in the cleaning solution, it can also rapidly dry them but I leave them out overnight to dry afterwards

I don't remember where I heard it, but I used Dawn and extra virgin olive oil mixed in warm water. I dip the brushes in the mixture, then use the cleaning pad to clean them then rinse them with water, and let them sit on the corner of the sink to dry them.
