1:42 Seeing George with a cup of coffee locked out of ILM, gave me the inspiration to always have a cup of coffee in hand when I cosplayed as him for the 2019 Star Wars Celebration.
George REALLY wanted to make movies HE wanted to watch. He was hoping Star Wars would get a bunch of copycats and he could relax and enjoy what the copycats came up with.
I think he’s coming back for 10 11 and 12. At least we hoping so. Because 7 8 9 was so damn horrible. He regrets selling it to them. It’s just a Rumor tho.
@@ShawHortonMusic He actually hates directing. He was his own last choice for the prequels, but he had to write and direct them because of his still existing beef with the DGA, PGA, and WGA. Hence he's straight up admitted he hated how "Episode I" turned out, and had a co-writer for "Episode II." I'd like to see him PRODUCE another film, since -- by his own admission -- he seems to be WAY better and more passionate at that. Hence, films he's produced are often way better than ones he's directed ("Episode V," "Kagemusha," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters," and "Powaqqatsi" being some examples).
@@MrMarsFargo Yeah, I’ve heard him say several times that he doesn’t like directing. He actually asked Ron Howard, Robert Zemeckis, and Steven Spielberg if they would direct each of the prequel films, but they all apparently told him that he should do it since he’s the creator. I believe he also asked Irvin Kershner to return, who declined, and he asked Lawrence Kasdan to help write, but Kasdan said he wasn’t interested in going backward, only forward. Kasdan has always been a Han guy so it makes sense that he wanted to write Solo, and that he agreed to help write The Force Awakens. But that’s why I hate when people say Lucas did all three prequels because of his “ego” or something like that. It’s documented that he asked people to help, or even do the job for him, but they all declined. I’d agree that he’s a better producer than he is director, and that he seems most passionate about that side of filmmaking. He’s also obviously big into advancing film technology, which he did beautifully with both trilogies. Although, I do find his directorial choices to be very interesting. He’s only directed six features; four Star Wars movies, and two non-SW movies (THX 1138 and American Graffiti), plus a handful of student short films. Even if directing isn’t his favorite thing, I would personally love to see what a current-day Lucas would do with another non-Star Wars film. I’m just very curious to see the kind of stuff he would make away from the saga. I assume it would mostly be experimental stuff that he was really into back in college. But I doubt he has any interest in filmmaking anymore, even as a producer, which is a real shame because he’s one of the most creative voices to have ever worked in the industry. Maybe we’ll see something after he gets his museum up and running, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.
@@ShawHortonMusic Lucas' talents go beyond producing I think. He does have great instincts with characters, worldbuilding, symbolism and story. It's simply that he isn't that interested in dialogue, and isn't that interested in getting into character motivations with his actors. He clearly enjoys the edit process, too. Although Kasdan gets a lot of credit for ESB, I think the cast and Kershner also made a lot of changes. There's a scan of the script with revisions by Carrie, and we know that Harrison ad libbed his line after talking with Kershner. Solo is one of the most forgettable movies I've seen, and Kasdan was all over that.

In a way, Jar Jar was the key. If they had removed Jar Jar (and worked on Anakin just a little more), Phantom Menace would have been a far greater film.
