I feel bad for Lucas. I always hear him get hated on and yet he created the fricken universe that people are obsessed with. My intro to Star Wars was episode 1 and I loved it.
It's also never fully understood by some that unlike films that are bankrolled by corporations or studios taking out huge loans, Lucas financed the prequels fully on his own dime, and he tried to adhere to a strict budget. Though I guess when people buy thousands of dollars in merch, they assume that gives them total control over how a story should play out.
Brok Homz I completely agree, I can still come to an agreement with some that the first two aren’t really that good. But I can easily forgive all of them because lucas has a huge vision he wants to share. And I completely applaud him for that even if the product in the end isn’t great.

The new ones are produced by the same people who produced or directed Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi - and it's noticeable. The prequels need to be remade, or at least re-edited. And actually, they have been ... in a way. Somebody on TH-cam made his own version of the prequels that he calls "De-cheesed version". He cut out most scenes with Jar-Jar, rearranged some of the events, and kept it serious through out of the movie. I find it hilarious that somebody out there, a fan, made a better movie than pros George Lucas and Rick McCallum were able to do.

Lucas at least came out with originalty when he did the prequels .and they expanded the star wars universe greatly .Sure they have some flaws , but to me overall , they are great .i 'd take the prequels any day over the disney trash . to me only rogue one was ok ..and solo ..was acceptable.

GEORGE LUCAS DID!!!!!!!!
My oh my so much has changed since this interview. For one thing I have much respect and admiration for George Lucas. He is a legend, and nobody can deny that. His last directly involved movies may have hit a sour note with critics, but this was his story, his galaxy far, far away that he's envisioned. When you're passionate for what you do you don't care what others think. You do it because it's who you are and what you love.
@Andre Wallace - Bravo, Mr. Wallace! I felt the same way and I hope for George Lucas to do other kinds of films as a way of expanding the Lucasfilm name beyond his association with "Star Wars."
Too bad he ruined it all with the prequels because he rushed the script and only wrote it 1 month before shooting. Now he sold it and it is a giant cash cow. Can't forgive him for this, I feel hate to him until I die.
Andre Wallace the only good movie he directed was episode 4 half the ideas weren't even his and his ex wife actually ghost directed it and fixed a lot of problems he's honestly kinda bad
Episode 3 was the worst from the original trilogy. Eventhough it was the most emotional one(Vader, luke, emperor scenes were superb), it kinda lacked sense and was just a weird film. The part with the little bears was dumb af and kinda ruined it for me.
George Lucas is so entertaining to me. Nearly everything he says is comedic gold. 10:13 “I’ve worked enough to be able to fail the rest of my life, and that’s what I’m gonna do.” Amazing.
I think Mr Lucas did a fantastic job on the prequels. I never understood all the hate. It told the story of Anakin Skywalker and thats what we wanted to see. Screw this new disney crap
No actually what the mojority of the OT fans wanted to see was the OT again, the heros journey like luke skywalker, but they are so stupid that they never understood that the prequels were the opposite, a tragic story the downfall of anakin skywalker so thats why they hated them, i love them though

Matt Robson the story is dumb too. The character writing is terrible, there are soooo many plot holes, and the general story structure is messy and has a bad payoff.
I will forever respect George Lucas. Not only did he make one of the greatest films of all time (Star Wars, as a 6-part Soap Opera-Serial dubbed “The Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker”, finally completed in 2011 with the last of the OT Special Editions), he also created ILM, which helped make the CGI for The Abyss (1988), and a dozen more iconic movies 20 years before Marvel started making films. He’s also a vastly more interesting filmmaker that half of the top directors today. The man’s a pioneer of modern cinema, not only in terms of film as a visual and poetic art form but in special effects, etc., and I hope he will be respected and remembered as such. And no, I don’t blame him for selling Lucasfilm to Disney. I hope he’s able to make his own little movies now, even though I am a bit saddened at the prospect of the general audience probably never seeing them. George Lucas always has been and will continue to be my inspiration, the one I admire, the one I like to study, and a meaningful part of my love for cinema.

+Matt Consigli eh I'm not sure, I don't think his face really evokes the character - Hayden's voice, face and just general demeanour as the character was perfect for me. Especially in rots. Hayden gets a lot of shit and I don't understand it at all, I think he was excellent and can't imagine anyone else as anakin. The whole point is that he isn't Han Solo in a Jedi costume, you know, but that's what they want.
George Lucas is the man. In my mind, Revenge of the Sith is pretty damn close to being a masterpiece. Too few people produce truly high quality tragedies these days. The only Star wars film I could argue as being better than Revenge of the Sith is the Empire Strikes back, though that question is of course completely subjective. Seeing this interview today, I cannot help but think that George Lucas would never have sold the rights to Star Wars to Disney if he had any idea that they were going to make the films the way they did. Even for 4 Billion dollars. You can see the attachment he holds for this series in his eyes. I am sure that Star Wars is an immense source of pride for him. This fact just makes me feel sympathy for Lucas, and makes me hate Disney, Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams to my bones, because these people dragged one of the best series ever made through the mud, for no apparent reason. Any sane individual could see that producing a trilogy with barely any original or creative content, literally recycling story lines and villains from the previous works almost verbatim, is a terrible idea. Even disregarding this, the story is not even coherent and consistent. Disney was so negligent that they clearly didn't even bother to create an outline for the trilogy before making the movies. Palpatine being brought back from the dead, beyond ruining the ending of the return of the Jedi, is proof of this half assed, unplanned approach to writing. Even within the trilogy itself, there is a tremendous amount of inconsistency, with each movie contradicting the film which preceded it. I seriously do not know what Disney was thinking. I could have written a far better story. Most people probably could have with the bar being so low. Anyway, I digress. George Lucas is the man. Disney has gone to the dark side. We should get our revenge by pushing through harsh anti-trust legislation ^_^.
Everyone trashed on George Lucas now Disney took over those people that trashed on George Lucas really has no right to complain I love this irony to be honest
Say what you want about his filmmaking, directing, or editing, but one thing that nobody can take away from George Lucas is how much of a devoted and dedicated father he has been, ever since he first adopted Amanda way back when Return of the Jedi was being finished up. To raise one adopted child as a single father is something that says volumes about what kind of person he is, let alone three. I think George Lucas is a genius for inventing the World I escape to the most in my life, and I have additional respect for him as a human being for what he's done for those kids. None of whom were his paternal offspring to begin with, and still treated and raised better than most kids are. Whether they're raised by both of their own parents or not. And, to provide them with the best possible lives he's not only worked his A off creating multiple film making industries, from LucasArts, Lucasfilm, and ILM to the digital effects technology that would eventually become Pixar Animation Studios. In his efforts to avoid being constrained by the Hollywood Studio establishment, he's effectively become one of, If not THE, most influential and consequential Media "Moguls," in the industry today. No movie gets made to this day that hasn't passed through a Company that George Lucas wasn't involved or wholly responsible for inventing. (Just look at the credits following ANY movie you can think of, and if "Industrial Light and Magic," doesn't appear somewhere, as having some hand in helping the production, it's arguably not even a movie worth watching. And that's just I.L.M., which George Lucas was forced to create just so realizing his original Star Wars vision could be possible.) It's not enough to say he's set industry standards filmmakers are still working under today, because he literally invented those standards outright. All so he could provide the best possible life he could, by himself, for three children who he adopted. That's impressive. Most impressive. 👍
@@Voltar in the early days, he envisioned a 12 part saga, but decided to make three films and later do the prequels. It was only when he wanted to do small films that weren’t going to make much money and would drag his company down that he thought about more Star Wars films and to sell his company while his story would be secured with who he thought would be the right people to tell the rest of his story. There are only 6 Star Wars films. Those are the only ones that matter. The remaining 6 he envisioned could possibly happen one day back in the 1970s won’t come to be.
Sad that after all the hate there’s a huge fan base including myself, that are huuuuuge fans of the prequels! From the movies, to the amazing clone wars show, and the games I grew up with will all forever be apart of me as well as my childhood. George Lucas had a vision and despite the critics made it all so real
Reviewster wtf are you people talking about? You can say you didn't like the film but you can't deny that a movie came out last year. Besides, George Lucas liked Rouge One.
Ive earned enough to fail the rest of my life. You never failed George, you succeeded, past criticism and biased opinions against your brilliant movie magic and creative story telling... Wish the world would see it.
George Lucas is just boss genius and knows the delicate balance between the business and the creative world, and is able to keep that focus and balance of his force to achieve success. If you are too business you lose track of the art. If you are too art you neglect the business. George Lucas got the delicate balance correct.
its more impressive to me that he made his own hollywood. He didn't need to take money from mainstream hollywood, and thus could do what ever he wanted.
Oh man. Wonderful memories of these AMAZING times. I miss when the prequels were the current and most relevant Star Wars films (even though I really enjoy Episode VII). Let's go back to the early 2000s!
When James Cameron made The Avatar and its visuals it was so revolutiounery, but when years before Lucas did it everybody were whining it needs practical effects and etc.
" there is no episode 7"...oh how i wish i could go back to that time. For the few misgivens about ep1 and 2. Episode 3 was one of the best star wars movies overall.
@@lordsidious83 The prequels had less cgi than the sequels, despite what JJ Abrams says. Regardless, the CGI isnt there in the prequels just to be CGI, they are merely tools to tell George's story. For George, absolutely everything is secondary to his story, even the dialogue. This has been the case since a new hope. People act like somehow Episodes 1 and 2 are special but no, the dialogue has always been wooden since episode 4.
I love Star Wars. I am very grateful to George for having created my favorite movies: the original Star Wars trilogy. Star Wars changed my life!!! Lucas TRULY INSPIRED ME!!!!
"They say all good things must come to an end ..." Well, most of the good def ended with RotS Hyperbolic naysaying of the sequel trilogy aside, it's weird seeing prequel promo stuff for the first time in 17 years; this has some serious bd-2000s energy & I love it. It's also nice to see ppl actually being in awe of CG instead of complaining about it (critiques of bad or overused in current films aside, & yes I know fans at the time thought Lucas used too much CG for the prequels) or not even reacting to it. It's these kinda interviews that keep reminding me of why I love Lucas & Star Wars so much. He doesn't seem interested anymore, or at least not making them available to the public, but I would love to see Lucas's experimental art films. That house painting analogy was great. Also, that backdrop in the beginning is drop-dead hilarious with Leonardo DiCaprio & big red lips on Vader lmao
I really owuld like to just go to George and tell him that I love the 6 Movies he made. But alas...I don't have enough money to travel, and even if I could I doubt I could get to him.
You know watching this George does have a point he doesn’t give a shit what critics or fans think nobody is perfect nobody can make you happy just be happy about having star wars movies, the people vs George documentary is the most silliest ever just nothing but crying Primadonnas what would they like if Star Wars didn’t exist
Get bent! He's not doing some private thing in his own house. He's making a movie shown in cinemas and charge people to see it. If he don't think that critics and the audience should be allowed to give feedback to it, he's in the wrong business.
So, Anakin made a pact with the devil (Palpatine), did some atrocious things for him in exchange and then go to hell and get burned. And after that he lived in eternal purgatory for his sins until the love for his son set him free. Damn George.

why the fuck is there a backgroudn poster of leonardo di caprio
he was offered the role of anakin skywalker but turned it down
+Matt Consigli and thank goodness for that
hahah you dont think he'd be good?
He's actually married now, so happy for him :)
Everyone trashed on George Lucas now Disney took over those people that trashed on George Lucas really has no right to complain I love this irony to be honest
I miss George
why the fuck is anakin leo decaprio in the background poster
Lol right
That's who was going to originally play Anakin Skywalker, I believe George Lucas talks about it in an interview if I'm correct.
@@reformedbroski8988 interesting. Thank god Lucas is smart though
Do you think you are edgy when you needlessly curse in the comment section?
B/c democrats are incompetent and can’t do anything proper
And that's just I.L.M., which George Lucas was forced to create just so realizing his original Star Wars vision could be possible.)
It's not enough to say he's set industry standards filmmakers are still working under today, because he literally invented those standards outright.
All so he could provide the best possible life he could, by himself, for three children who he adopted.
That's impressive.
Most impressive. 👍
Thanks to prequel haters we got Episode 7.

Can we get him to 66?
He worked his ass off to make the original trilogy and it cost him his marriage. I'm sure that left its mark on him.
Okay, but that poster at the beginning 😂
Ah, the one with Leonardo DiCaprio as Anakin.
😂😂
Idk Lucas the Vader transformation scene scared the fuck out of me as a 10 year old
Kids movies can be scary too, have you seen The Dark Crystal?
Anakin being burned alive is the part that scared tf out of me when I was 6 lol
As far as dating, he wasn't single for much longer after this aired. He met his current wife in '06 and got married in 2013.
1-6 are canon and 7-9 is fancfiction
*Corporate fiction. Disney thinks those films are what people wanted to see.
there is some fan fictions even better than this shit
Bingo
I would’ve been so much more on board with the sequels if Disney had marketed them as fanfiction
Honestly episodes 7 and 9 are way better than the prequels... not last jedi tho

George Lucas: "There is no episode 7"
disney makes fan fiction. not worth my money.
@@Voltar Episodes 7,8,9 were bate George put in the mouse trap.
Not worth the time either. Can't sit through them even for free. I liked watching the hate rants on YT.
These films got better over time
Inferior product Green Disney took over.
Thats because films have been getting shittier. But yeah, these prequels actually have substance unlike current movies..
“There is no episode seven” Still true to this day.
My parents took me to see this when it came out, I was six. I had awesome parents.

Sad that after all the hate there’s a huge fan base including myself, that are huuuuuge fans of the prequels! From the movies, to the amazing clone wars show, and the games I grew up with will all forever be apart of me as well as my childhood. George Lucas had a vision and despite the critics made it all so real
This made me appreciate the prequels a lot more
I was four when my pops took me to see Revenge of the Sith, Such an awesome film.
There is no Episode 7.

There is no (Episode 7) Spoon
Reviewster wtf are you people talking about? You can say you didn't like the film but you can't deny that a movie came out last year. Besides, George Lucas liked Rouge One.
Revenge of the Sith was my favorite episode!
A picture of Leonardo DiCaprio as Anakin Skywalker in the beginning
Is that Leo in that damn poster?! Who is that lol
Bryce Henning it definitely does look like him.. that’s so weird!
Wasn’t he supposed to be obi wan Kenobi originally
Hispanic at the Disco nah, he was supposed to play Anakin Skywalker
@@biggboi1025 Definitely!
I agree with what he said at the end, there is no episode 7...
George needs to come back and fix Disney's shit.
José Romero he can’t cause disney don’t want him in any new projects

Like other artists he'll only be appreciated after he's gone.
Weren't those horrible edited because George Lucas insisted on doing it when his wife had saved the edit in ep 4 5 6?
@@henrik1743 I don't think the problems were in the edit, just the dialogue was a little ropey in places, and the overuse of cgi in a lot of scenes.
@@TheLegendOfLame I think the dialogue is part of the charm of it too.
I love Star Wars. I am very grateful to George for having created my favorite movies: the original Star Wars trilogy. Star Wars changed my life!!! Lucas TRULY INSPIRED ME!!!!

Hyperbolic naysaying of the sequel trilogy aside, it's weird seeing prequel promo stuff for the first time in 17 years; this has some serious bd-2000s energy & I love it.
The best episode in the Star Wars saga
I really owuld like to just go to George and tell him that I love the 6 Movies he made. But alas...I don't have enough money to travel, and even if I could I doubt I could get to him.

deadass. these oldass OT manchildren needa finally stfu

What I take from this interview is that I thought the word was " digitalized", not " digitized".
Every day one learns something new. I like that.
So many people keep hating in george for what he did with HIS OWN FRANCHISE. Now Disney is running it into the ground. Episode three is still my favorite film and George Lucas has created something that hollywood could never hope of doing.
