@@nickhartwell8053 attempted murder at Spa. To be fair, McCarthy only had to deal with a bad year. Moreno seemed to make a career out of driving for these sort of teams bless him. With the exception of Benetton (thanks Schumey!)
More than his F3000 title, or his podium for Benetton, or his two wins in CART: actually qualifying the car for this disgrace of a team was the greatest accomplishment of Roberto Moreno's career.
Niall McBride The MasterCard Lola cars in 1997 were the worst cars, slower than even some F3000 cars run on the same circuit. The Andrea Moda chassis was OK, because it had actually been developed by a real, if non-competitive team (Coloni) before they sold out to Sassetti. The new ownership just had no idea how to run a car or a team. Moreno was able to qualify it on his own ability, but there was no way he could make it hold up in a race. He's said before that qualifying this car for a race was the highlight of his career. The Lolas in '97 were the result of trying to cram two years of development into a few months. Lola thought they could do it because they'd built so many IndyCars, but an IndyCar and an F1 car are very different, no matter how similar they may appear to be. They hadn't even attempted an F1 design for a few years.
N1 Gaming LOL, Andrea Moda at least managed to qualify for the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix, so worst car? I don't think so. Life did never even finish in dead last position in pre-qualify during all the races of their only season they raced with the worst being Imola where Life was 5 MINUTES off the pace.
First of all his name is not MacArthur...MacArthur was a general in WW2. Secondly, Moreno WAS a very good driver and quite a big name in F1 and lower classes.

peterprm19ify Moreno's F3000 title in 1988 should become a movie
To be fair Moreno was not rated as a top driver and not even was such a great name. I'm not stating he wasn't a good driver overall... as like as a number of drivers he probably got talent yet he never had the "chance" which can make your professional status change.
Given the little they had, they did their best and delivered a legendary outcome. A beautiful little team with character and courage. A fantastic driver: Roberto Moreno.
Andrea Moda is probably the worst of all teams, in terms of management (worse than MasterCard Lola and Life, which had crappy cars). Perry McCarthy was given various mistreatments, their trucks stuck at a blockade in France, and the final straw was when Andrea Sasetti was arrested in Belgium for forging invoices
@@alexguerrazzi Life had the worst car, AM was the worst team. At least LIFE never tried to kill or maim a driver on purpose so they didn't have to deal with him
@@MrSniperfox29 Just curious...did AM team attempt to kill his ien driver ??? Getting to know the team owner was such a merciless individual is just appalling.Could you tell me sth about it ? Thanks.
@@INDIGOBLUE555 Okay here's the story When AM began the season they had Alex Caffi and Enrico Bertaggia as their drivers. Due to various issues (all caused by Sessetti) the team was excluded from the first race, and didn't turn up the second. This obviously annoyed said drivers, so when they complained, Sessetti fired them and replaced them with Moreno and Perry McCarthy. After a few more races of general incompetence Bertaggia came back with a million dollars of sponsorship, which Sessetti said he would like very much. Unfortunately the FIA said no, you've changed drivers too many times, and now you stick with Moreno and McCarthy. This annoyed Sessetti very much, and he decided to blame McCarthy for everything and basically ignored his entry to throw everything behind Moreno. In Spain, for example, McCarthy overslept. No big, you think, but the entire team was in the same hotel and nobody bother to wake him. In Britain, he was set out on a dry track with wet tyres, and in Hungary he was only allowed out 45 seconds before the end of the session. Now comes Belgium, where McCarthy's car suffered a broken steering column and nearly suffered a violent crash at Raidillon. When he told the team, they just said "yeah, we knew it was broken when we took it off Moreno's car and put it on yours" Thankfully the team was thrown out before they could find other ways to kill McCarthy, and never seen again.
Wow Andrea Sasetti seems more interested in acting like a rock star and posing in the pit lane than running his F1 team. No wonder this team was a joke. HRT were poles ahead in professionalism compared to this lot!
I think I remember reading that he thought the fastest and most expensive brand of racing in the world was a good way to advertise his fucking shoe company. He comes off as a complete moron if you ask me
+disturbedrocks1996 It would have been good advertising, if he'd actually put people in charge who knew what the hell they were doing, rather than trying to run it himself, as he apparently did. Benetton got into F1 during that time to promote itself, but they hired well-qualified people to run their team, funded it properly, and eventually even won a constructor's championship.
At the time there was no rule about a maximum number of teams, only one that forced all teams to pre-qualify for the race which meant the really slow cars failed to even see the real qualifying. For the race there were a maximum amount of cars which was 26. Those that had managed to pre-qualify but failed to be one of the 26 fastest qualifiers never started the race. In the early 90's and the rising popularity of F1, many saw a chance to buy a team to market their products, in this case shoes..
Moreno truly worked wonders to get this car on the grid. Overall Andrea Moda are in my opinion the most farcical team ever to take part in F1. If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend reading Perry McCarthy's autobiography to take a peek into just how chaotic things were.

Mon vrai regret c'est de ne l'avoir jamais vu arriver à magny-cours en ce mois de juillet 1992.......
I pretty sure the S921 moda car that Simtek built for Sassetti was originally drawn for BMW, but that project didn't happen. So when the Colone cars were rejected by Bernie and Max, Simtek had a car already drawn and ready to go. Max had some investment/connection with Simtek also as the FIA would use Simtek's wind tunnel. Yes they had a small wind tunnle in Banbury a few doors down from the workshop. Solution to the problem created by banning the Colone cars. Nice little earner that one...

Also sassetti instead of following the rules and accepting help from ecclestone he went against them. And also about McCarthy the team with the budget they had should have only one driver
You can hear the despair in Moreno's voice. He was really struggling with this car. All a man can do is his best.
And he had the better car by a mile.
Today, he says the highlight of his career was when he actually qualified the Andrea Moda for a race.
And he really did his best, get out of pre quali in that andrea moda is a miracle
Actually Roberto thought the Andrea Moda chassis was reasonably good. But they had no money for spares or development.
