      All the "Ithican soldiers as wolves" fits with Ody's style of combat too, as shown in Survive. Harrying, coordination, and so on: not as much pride and glory-seeking as other Greeks are implied to have thanks to all the Warrior Of The Mind training.
      Although, having said that, Achilles Myrmidons are compared to ants for their discipline in most other versions of this epic cycle...

    2:30 as much as i love the depiction of eurylochus handing the torch to someone else, seeing him get _pushed out of the way_ is so much more devastating. Especially because I also headcanon that Polites died to push someone else out of the way (probably Ody) since that would explain why his last thoughts were about kindness.

    Any depiction of Scylla with the dog-waist automatically gets a gold star from me.
    And the fact that you actually showed Charybdis across from Scylla in the strait automatically makes this my new favorite animatic. Especially because it’s exactly what Homer wanted to reflect in the Odyssey - Odysseus was forced to either sacrifice six of his crew or risk them all dying to Charybdis instead! There was no good option, so Odysseus ended up choosing the lesser evil.
    While it ended up destroying Eurylochus’s trust in his brother-in-law, he ultimately gave the crew another chance to survive by picking Scylla instead.

    • @hunterkirkland736
      @hunterkirkland736 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +38

      True, though if I remember correctly, in Epic: The Musical, Jay actually left the Charybdis out and instead puts them in another song in the Vengeance Saga. This means that Charybdis isn't near Scylla in Epic: The Musical's version of the story or at least not nearby enough to be recognized as an immediate threat. But still, it was cool seeing an interpretation that actually incorporated both monsters!
      Also, it was cool seeing HOW the boat traveled through the caves and such, especially when most animatics and animations tend to be more focused on Scylla herself and the crew being attacked. (Which isn't a bad thing, it's just cool to see the variety of how the situation is often depicted from a visual standpoint!)
      But yeah, that's all I have to say. :D

    • @sonofcronos7831
      @sonofcronos7831 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      But Odysseus never told about Scylla to anyone in his crew. Neither in the Odyssey, neither in Epic. He keept to himself for obvious reasons (because had he warned them about Scylla, they would likely not even want to go, while Odysseus wanted to return).

    • @sonofcronos7831
      @sonofcronos7831 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@hunterkirkland736is likely that she is close.
      Odysseus has to pass trough some danger to reach home. First he tried with Aeolus bag but he failed. Them he tried with Scylla but failed. Is likely that Charybdis is close enough to Scylla, and Odysseus was blow up far from Scylla by Zeus storm. So he has to go trough the same way again (and it makes sense if is Charybdis this time since she is only a danger to a ship entirely, but not a single man who can hold into the nearest tree and survive alone, while Scylla is inescapable).

      The descriptions of Scylla are pretty varied. Some talk about her having six heads on long necks that can reach down from her lair to snatch prey, others talk about her waist being adorn with the heads of baying hounds (sometimes interpreted as the hound heads replacing her legs). This is a particularly good blend of just about all the various versions into one monstrous form.

    This has to be one of the top versions of Scylla I’m down for!!
    This one being very accurate to Greek Mythology, & with the actual struggles it is to deal with this beast while maintaining a ship, as well as Odysseus actually being terrified knowing what has to be done.
    Gigi’s version of Scylla being horrifying eels as heads instead of the dogs her disguise as a woman before revealing her true self. It’s also interesting with different perspectives from the crew & her. With hers (theirs if I’m wrong) it’s clear to see the struggles of Odysseus & Eurylochus after he tells the truth about him opening the wind bag.
    Last but not least with the canon version from the livestream, beautiful yet horrifying as well with more gore-some moments but this animatic makes it even more terrifying when it comes to gore.

      In my personal opinion, Eurylochus did not do it for survival. He did it out of greed and mistrust, which is very different. Ody told everyone not to open the wing bag to avoid the storm, the "bag full of treasure" thing was a lie, and a tempting one at that. He spent a long time at war as well, maybe Eury thought it wasn't fair that Ody be the only one to get treasure in some part of his mind, which could have influenced his choice. And in his doubt, he opened the bag. Instead of trusting his brother in law and captain, he let the words of wind creatures sway him. That is not survival.

    This is incredible!! Your Scylla design is both unique & terrifying. I love the yellow highlights & the portrayal of her heads like dogs hunting for their master. Also, the movement is so detailed & fluid, like whaa? I love her little spin. And having Scylla as the backdrop for the characters she's "speaking" to is so cool.

    It's awesome that you've actually made her heads dog like as they're supposed to be, every version I've seen of schools makes them snakes but this is much more horrifying. It's also always struck me as strange that Odysseus never tries to fight scylla, it's made me think she must be one of the strongest monster in Greek myth, no hero ever slays her.

    This is hands-down, my favorite animatic about Scylla- ever! Not only did you include the dog heads and Charibdis, but your animation style is incredible! Instantly fell in love with it.

    Cool idea on making the heads wolf-like. Not only does it tie in with the continuous wolf comparison in the musical, it also looks rad as balls. Long necked fish and lizards? Been there done that. Long necked wolves? Terrifying

    OH YES, HOLY SHIT, this might be my new favorite Scylla animatic x33
    Her design is AWESOME and I love the wolves too! That's so neat! The way she moves and how her mouth gets bigger when she sings, "Give up your honor and faith" is SO good on my eyes, holy crap! In general, I love how you depicted everyone and the level of detail and movement. I also appreciate how it directly fades from Scylla's face to Ody's when they sing together, and then how the blood runs down the side of the ship and how flawlessly it fades from dark to light, GOD it's beautiful! Also near the beginning, I really liked the shots during Ody's processing of Eury's confession, the way Eury is framed in Scylla's hands before she "crushes" him and then it snaps to Ody's shocked eyes. It's all amazing! Wonderful job!

    All of the animatic is outstanding but my favourite moment is 2:19 to 2:33, scylla’s twirl and mouth opening, the dog faces ripping the body apart, the change of POV to the dogs mouth, the way he gets pushed out of the way UGH I love this

    Now THAT is Scylla! I've loved the creativity of other animatics, but it is really nice to see someone really go for the full mythology with the snake-like dogheaded tentacles, and Charybdis lurking deeper in the depths. Excellent job making this feel true to be Jay's vision and the classic myths.

    I love this SO MUCH. This has got to be one of my favorite Scylla designs along with a few others, the skulls hanging up like decorations in her lair are super cool, I love the fact you used dog heads, and Scylla looks horrifying! The way you show the way the heads would rock the ship, the way the dogs eat the crewmates, its so, SO good. I also love how you included Charybdis! I dont know what else to say, and i might come back to gush later, but this is just so gorgeous and its one of my favorite animatics of this song.

    The transitions, camera angles and the realism behind the movements are truly stunning. I just found your animatic right after Suffering and Different Beast and I can perfectly imagine all three as part of a movie. That takes some skill! I also love the small addition with the Siren's headband to pick up where the last video left off, adding some bittersweet feeling to the scene. Nice detail!

    So... I think Gigi's Scylla animatic still has my favorite Scylla due to the eel-heads and false-face thing. But this is the -only- one I've seen that actually had Charybdis, and my second fav design of Scylla so far, due to how much more unique it was than most. Like, the bit WITH Charybdis and him specifically keeping on the lookout and waiting to row? Perfect job there, I genuinely loved this animatic. Fantastic job.
