Final Months of BART's Legacy Fleet - Scheduled Service (Summer 2023)

- As BART’s legacy fleet inches closer to retirement we ride around the BART system to catch these ancient trains - all legacy cars seen in this video were originally built by Rohr between 1970 and 1975, and refurbished by Adtranz/Bombardier between 1997 and 2002.
The cars will be pulled from scheduled service in September 2023. Full retirement of the legacy fleet is expected to occur sometime later in 2023 if not 2024 - there is still a good bit of time left to ride them. Here are scenes on what just might be the final summer of the BART legacy fleet in revenue service.
There are about 55 A2 cars left and very roughly, about 250 B2 cars left. The fleet once numbered 59 A2 cars, 380 B2 cars, 150 C1 cars, and 80 C2 cars.
The legacy cars are now found only on the Red, Orange, and Green Lines.
All filmed in June, July, and August 2023.

I at least....and at least got to ride it one last time over the summer before going back to the east coast.... although I never grew up in the bay area, I visited the Bay area a lot growing up as a kid and I used to ride the bart all the time. I still have those vivid child memories of riding those trains and remembering my first time seeing when it embarcadero. I even remember the last time I rode the c cars years ago. I will miss these cars when they're gone

At 6:04, the leading A car is 1241, not 1261. 1261 has a shinier logo

I'll miss these, especially the Space Age A cars. But they really are about a decade past their retirement age. The new trains are better in every way imaginable. The time has come to upgrade. Let the old girls rest.
Legacy A cars are still amazing and iconic ... I hope they will run as long as it goes... the new fleet looks like all others around the world : boring
