  • This video is about something that I have not seen much of on youtube. I call it railfanning but it's not in stations, it is very common for other types of railfanning but for subway railfanning, it is not very popular. Enjoy!

For anyone curious, the locations are the Westbrae portal in Berkeley. The South Berkeley portal in Berkeley and the elevated tracks along MLK Jr Way in North Oakland

I know where all these are located. The North Berkeley south bound track exit at an angle underground traveling along Hearst Avenue turning onto Shattuck Avenue. There is a crossover between the North Berkeley and Downtown Berkeley Station. One omission Bart appears to have done was not installed a crossover (interlock) between Ashley and MacArthur. As MacArthur is a critical junction transfer point on the East Bay side. If a train become disabled on the southbound track it blocks traffic from behind, least with the crossover can run on the R-2 track and cross back before entering MacArthur.

I actually just stuck my phone through the fence, so I was still more than 3 feet away from the train.

For the shots that were close to the train, I stuck my phone through the fence a little bit.

Was this filmed during the pandemic?

Yes, it was filmed during the pandemic, however, the purpose of this video was to have Bart footage without having to go into a train or station.
