      Pls make top 10 busiest station

    • @Randomk8d16
      @Randomk8d16 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) Jurong East
      The hub for all Westies is one of the busiest places during peak hours. The queues at Jurong East are like snakes and sometimes will start from one platform and end on the other platform. Even though there is more than one platform going to the same direction, the queues are still endless.
      2) Choa Chu Kang
      For those staying in Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang, the easiest way to connect to Jurong East/Buona Vista is via Choa Chu Kang. Hence, the crowd here in Choa Chu Kang in the morning can easily overwhelm you if you are not prepared for it.
      3) Woodlands
      In the morning, the train going northbound will see the crowd coming in droves at Woodlands. The queues at the stations are endless and you can say that having a little space to stand on while queuing is a blessing.
      4) Yishun
      The crowds at Yishun are getting really bad nowadays with all the new BTOs completed in the area. Morning crowds tend to extend from one end of the platform to the other end, and multiple queues will form as there is simply no space to handle the crowds.
      5) Ang Mo Kio
      Being one of the oldest neighbourhood in Singapore, Ang Mo Kio naturally has more residents crowding the train station. The overcrowding issue is made worse by the fact that the southbound trains are already fully packed before they reached Ang Mo Kio. Good luck in waiting for a train here, for you can probably get in on the 3rd or 4th train.
      6) Bishan
      After the Circle Line calls Bishan its interchange station, Bishan has become crowded during peak hours. It is common to see droves of people crowding the small little platforms in Bishan without the chance of getting onto an already overcrowded train.
      7) Toa Payoh
      The old neighbourhood in Singapore deserves the title of being overcrowded too. The good thing about this station is the fact that the station is relatively big, so the squeeze at the station is not too bad. Nonetheless, the frustration of trying to get on a southbound train in the morning is very real indeed.
      8) Dhoby Ghaut
      Another interchange station worthy to be on this list, Dhoby Ghaut is an interchange station to 3 lines - the North-South line, the North-East line and the Circle Line. It is no joke trying to take a train here during peak hours, for the queues are always long.
      9) City Hall
      It is expected that City Hall will be crowded as there are many people who works here. The crowds are mostly office workers rushing to the office or rushing home, hence the pushing and jostling can get out of hand sometimes. Moreover, the interchange station for the North-South and the East-West line is a must for someone who stays in the East and works in the North.
      10) Raffles Place
      The crème of the crop - Raffles Place is CBD and hence, the busiest of all MRT station. To say that it is overcrowded appears to undermine the crowds that it handles. Sufficient to say, Raffles Place is not a place where you would like to be at during peak hours because you will be squeezed, shoved and pushed into and out of trains.
      There you have it, the 10 stations that make you feel like uber-ing. Do you agree?

    The same reasoning for Tan Kah Kee can be applied to Bras Basah. Bras Basah is actually crowded. December is school holiday so all ur SMU students wont be there. But I'm surprised Springleaf is on the list considering the food places nearby.

    • @lzh4950
      @lzh4950 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well Ampang Yong Tao Foo has since closed down/moved out from the Springleaf area, & maybe food places alone won't attract that many passengers to a station? E.g. meanwhile Farrer Rd station is surrounded by high-rise condos & HDBs but is also relatively quiet, maybe as there aren't so many densely populated neighbourhoods slightly further away with connecting buses to them, while the shops & hawker centre there maybe don't attract so many people from elsewhere. However maybe better bus connections from Springleaf MRT to southern Yishun will boost the station's ridership

      Honestly if you take the train down 2 stops to mayflower, you immediately get access to 2 kopitiams and 1 kedai kopi (malay kopitiam) with mala, seafood / zichar, western food, cai png, etc
      The other exit got Indian muslim food, domino's, McDonald's, burger king
      It was honestly very disappointing to go to springleaf. Especially 6pm got nothing much

    Thank you for making this! Always happy to see interest in the usage aspects of our public transport network :)
    Actually, here are more clear-cut reasons for Bras Basah:
    1. Bencoolen station on the DTL is located close enough to interchange with it, but due to them being considered separate stations, they also have separate usage numbers.
    2. Its proximity to Dhoby Ghaut, a major interchange just 600m away.
    3. The low frequency of branch line CCL services during both peak and off-peak hours. SMU students and others coming from Dhoby Ghaut would prefer to walk instead.

    • @sbs2828s
      @sbs2828s  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good point!
      however bras basah sees regular 5 min frequency during off-peak hours, even the branch like to marina bay runs at this frequency. no matter the case, trains on the circle line will run at intervals of a maximum of 5 mins, and 2-3 mins from promenade to stadium

    I use Cashew station daily and yeah this MRT station is super underutilised. The station only serves like 2 condominiums, MINDEF and APS, so outside of peak hours, the station is completely empty. Hopefully when NS hub opens this year, the station will receive a higher footfall

      Maybe LTA will attempt bus rationalization to divert more Bt Panjang residents to use Cashew station. I thought many other stations along DTL stage 2 had low ridership too as they're in less densely populated areas e.g. Hillview, King Albert Pk, 6th Ave. Maybe these stations should've been skipped by express trains as most passengers on board would've been boarding/alighting @ Bt Panjang instead, so as not to waste their time. I remember people also questioning why DTL stage 2 passes thru so many less densely populated areas, & I guess its for the line to serve densely-populated Bt Panjang. Which then led me to think why we decided to build a densely populated town in that type of more isolated place that's more difficult to have been served by other lines that didn't cut thru as many less densely populated areas

      @sbs2828s  ปีที่แล้ว +13

  • @joyseng

    I feel that this video should use the data from any month except December, as it skewed the results as many Singaporeans being overseas or having school holidays. I guess on the weekdays there are many factory workers patronizing the station, & on weekends the stations are probably near migrant worker dorms & the workers use the MRT on their off days to go for outings? Maybe SMRT would be keen on Forest City as its residents commuting into Singapore could help boost ridership along the Tuas W Extension

  • @jontytheswiftie22

    I’m extremely surprised none of the Tuas Extension stations ended up on this list. The TEL3 stations aren’t too surprising considering how new they were at the time. The one that really surprised me were Bras Basah… it’s in quite a popular and busy location. I suppose the proximity to Bencoolen and the mentioned closure of the art museum contributed to it. I expected Marina South Pier to be up there somewhere, but I didn’t expect Cashew to come first.

Because we didn't do that, Asia Sq's escalators & lifts built to connect to these underground stations ended up remaining unused for a whopping 11 yrs since the building's completion, until Shenton Way MRT station opened

    I was at the marina bay station interchange to change to TEL and, be in no doubt, it is THE quiestest interchange. It was on a sunday afternoon and somehow I was the only person on the platform for the whole 6 minutes I waited for the train.
    I think the biggest issues with most TEL stations is how long the walk it is to get from the escalators to the gantries. Especially with GBTB and orchard boulevard (GBTB is pretty empty as well, mind, even during CNY celebrations)
    GBTB station is so remote that most just end up going to Downtown instead unless one wants to go directly to SBTB but that's really a stretch to call it GBTB

    Haha... Cashew least used despite being outside a military base...?
    But to be fair there's a public bus in there to bring people to other parts of Singapore, so not many people who are in the no vehicle gang / no money for taxi will climb up and down the hill especially when the overhead shelter is not built yet or incomplete. (I'm not gonna talk about the shuttle bus because I don't know to what extend that is public information. )
    But TEL is still quite new and incomplete so, abit difficult to say any of them is least used.
    Woodleigh, to my knowledge, is pretty unused, but bras basah is pretty unused too IMO.
