- This Terraria weapon deals insane amounts of damage... The Sniper Rifle. In this video, I take a look at this post plantera powerful ranged weapon that can be obtained from skeleton snipers in the dungeon in Terraria 1.4.4. This weapon can deal some ludicrous amounts of damage thanks to its high base damage and crit chance. Of course the only catch is an extremely low fire-rate. The question is, does this high amount of damage make it worth it? Lets take a look!

Cultist has 25% damage resistance against homing, so that might have contributed to the sluggish feel of the fight
I suggest looking up cursed dungeon walls, crafted with dungeon walls in shimmer to solve all your dungeon farming issues. They have even simplified how it works in the latest patch :D

This weapon is absurdly powerful in PVP, as with the proper gear, it can one-shot endgame players
In pvp I'm almost always a melee main, but sometimes mid match if I have a few seconds I'll switch into shroomite and get some really cheeky kills with the sniper before switching back

It's just not as popular as Minecraft PvP, so it doesn't get much attention.
Also factoring in that most people play the game either by themselves or with other people to play the game with (not against), you can see why not many people have heard of it.

the reason i personally usually don't use the sniper rifle is i just find faster firing weapons much more satisfying to use

same but it’s so satisfying to have a weapon that just immolates enemies from existence
They also frequently out damage the sniper rifle, in in optimum setups, because piercing isn't as good as firing 20 bullets normally.
That's fair, I personally always go for the sniper in most games because I like being rewarded for high accuracy with one clean powerful shot
Edit: This also applies to my ftw true melee run. Charging at the boss and landing one strong blow and backing out feels awesome. The Skeletron fight was hell but with the Volcano it looked cool
Also if you miss a single shot it's a big deal

I always love getting either this or the Tactical Shotgun when I go to the hardmode dungeon as a ranger. I definitely prefer the latter (I think this one might be better vs. highly armored foes?), but I just settle for whichever one I get
I run both the Tac Shotgun and the Sniper. I use cursed bullets so the Tac Shotgun isn't super great at range
Sniper Rifle just absolutely shreds. Really satisfying when you build around it and basically hits 3k every time. Shines even more in MP if you have any Putrid Scent accessory

Crystal Shards from crystal bullets each deal 50% of the base hit damage which enables Sniper Rifle to oneshot even more targets than it already did.
you can also just make slab walls with heavy workbench and throw it into shimmer so enemys spawn on it
Ranged weapons with a low fire rate but high damage are just.. _better_ than their low damage + high fire rate contemporaries. With the exception of maybe the uzi because it benefits greatly from the bottomless musket pouch, high fire rate weapons burn through recourses way too quickly for DPS that's either the same, barely higher, or outright _lower_ than weapons which distinctly lack that problem.
the only problem is, with the easy ways of getting bullets and all of the ways to decrease the bullet consumption chance, that really isn't a problem, and as you saw with chlorophyte bullets for something like the cultist, it kept on hitting different things making the fight longer, but for fast firing options that isn't as much of a problem since it would just go for a different enemy faster since you move fast to change where the homing goes, but with a slow firing weapon it is detrimental to hit a different enemy since it wastes that precious bullet that deals high amounts of damage. and with other bullets it's not much better, as if you miss a shot with a fast firing weapon, it barely matters since it fires so fast you can just aim somewhere else, but with a slow firing weapon it's more of the same problem. you waste that precious bullet making it take a lot longer than if you would just use a faster firing weapon. and for something like the cultist which is hard to hit without chlorophyte since its small size, a faster firing weapon is just the better option

@@muffins901 Okay, first off, a lot of the best bullets in the game are an absolute chore to get. I cannot begin to describe how many times I've had to go back to the jungle to restock on chlorophyte bullets, repeated moon lord fights for luminite bullets, or had to go back to the underground hallow to restock on crystal bullets.
Secondly, those decreases in ammo consumption apply to low fire rate weapons too. Meaning, no matter how you look at it, you're going to be wasting more ammunition, and by extension wasting more time in reacquiring it.
Thirdly, chlorophyte bullets don't automatically lock on to the cultist illusions. That was _entirely_ human error - and one he likely would have made even if he used a fast-firing weapon. Furthermore, you can mitigate 'locking onto other things' by using calming potions to decrease external enemy spawns.
I play ranger to aim well, I love the sniper but never use chloro bullets unless it's empress
@@purplehaze2358 Except something I don’t think you realize is the ease of access when it comes to those weapons. To have a high dps with the sniper you have to hit every shot, with the higher rate of fire weapons you don’t. Also something you either didn’t notice or forgot about what the other person was talking about was the ammo consumption reduction of those types of weapons specifically, the 33%/50%/66% reductions that only apply to those weapons. Also you could just gather the materials in bulk you know, just get so many that you don’t need to go back there for the rest of the playthrough, that solves that issue.

One of the benefits of the Sniper rifle is that because of its insane base damage, it gets massive stat scaling from armor and accessories. I remember that at one point my sniper rifle had been buffed to the point of dealing 450 damage with a 91% crit chance.
The sniper has always been one of my favourite ranged weapons, usually pair it with a fast fire rate bow/smg as a backup
The only Ranged Weapon that takes the slow, but stronger approach and makes it viable (like an actual sniper rifle in shooters)
The sniper becomes far worse in master mode where it no longer one shots enemies and instead just aggros them without the ability to stunlock

I remember I got my first sniper not long after it was added to the game, since then it is my go-to weapon when it comes to post-planterra ranger weapons. I love the massive damage and the fact that you can zoom out and hit enemies from further makes it so fun to use in my opinion.

Some time ago, I came up with a crafting recipe for the Musket (or Undertaker) + Illegal Gun Parts + Souls of Sight in order to create the Hunting Rifle - a high damage, low fire rate gun on the same tier as the Megashark that would be a predecessor to the Sniper Rifle.

I remember my friend going melee, taking whole agro and me sitting a screen away from them and boss and just shooting at it with shroomite armour buff and scope accessory, did really good dps
With infinite piercing and a good damage per shot and fire rate the Sandgun can, altho with some difficulties, take down the **Destroyer**. Imagine how strong it is vs the BoC or EoW, it's completely unmatched for earlygame rangers

Okay, funny thing about zoom items (Sniper Rifle or Binoculars) is that with the teleporting rods (Rod of Discord/Harmony) it can actually travel FARTHER than the normal player screen, though you gotta do it quickly or else you'll just use a normal screen sized teleport

I done this before. I used an unreal sniper rifle, shroomite armor. I defeated enraged duke fishron expertmode while I placed a minecart track across my large world. I dont remember my accesories, but I have rolled everything to menacing and lucky for extra crits. Does the job well. I would be doing 100 damage per chrolophyte bullet while expert mode duke is enraged without buffs and armor. I would be doing 700-900 damage with all of the right ranger accesories. With chrolophyte bullets, its just clicking till the boss dies. No dodging or defense accesories. Just pure raw damage

Sure!
Before the high velocity buff I only ever used this as a secondary just to use for fun while running around the world not doing anything specific to delete enemies quickly. With the high velocity bullet pierce buff, I’d use this for certain events and maybe certain bosses. It’s definitely not a mobbing or bossing weapon but it can be used for it now.
I remember when I saw the sniper first time and ditched it immediately. But in a different playthrough I used nonstop
I usually get one of these while farming for ectoplasm for the Moon events anyway, so usually before I get my hands on the Stake Launcher or Nailgun, I'll use the sniper with exploding bullets for crowd control until I get the Nailgun.

Honestly it was funny as hell to use on servers where people often turned their pvp on. With an easy to achieve 100% crit, luminite, vortex armor and not even full buffs, you could one shot any player that wasn't using full tank builds. Adding in just how far away away you could hit them from when factoring in the sniper scope accessory and the set bonus of vortex making you annoyingly tough to spot it was beyond hysterical. But that was niche and no real point. I never found much a use in it for progression unless using ichor bullets with it.
In my play through i used it specifically to shoot the correct cultist because of the built in scope.

It's my go to weapon for the old one's army event. Rangers usually struggles with it because there aren't many options for piercing damage.

I remember time where me and my friend were at his house on his Xbox playing terraria, and we just decided to have a deathmatch with our weapons so I pulled out the Sniper rifle and killed him twice before being killed by his lunar flare and getting repeatingly spawnkilled.

The Sniper Rifle, man I think I would love to see someone do a play through with just that and see if they can beat the game with it! Also, it seems that the Sniper rifle might have had its speed increased a bit, if I am not mistaken? If that is the case then boy howdy is it going to rock the house with any and all enemies, including bosses!

When I played Terraria for the 1st time, I got this sniper and I loved it, it's so satisfactory one shooting hardmode enemies pre-Moon Lord.

i remember using vortex armor every emblem and celestial shell all reforged to menacing and got 570 base dmg
One of my favorite terraria activities is Wyvern hunting with the sniper rifle. With the right bullets, you can wait for it to directly charge you and one shot it down the throat
2:51 Gotta mention though, that homing projectiles deal decreased damage to the cultist, so chloropythe bullets may not be the best option.
I personally love the Sniper Rifle because i always use it when i am playing ranger, especially on multiplayer. I also love it because back in the xbox360 days i used it to "cosplay" as an minecraft creeper by sneaking up on players and then shooting the ground with explosive ammunition which obviously killed me and most of the time also the person i was pranking 😂 (I used no armor but max damage and crit accessories to guarantee the highest Chances of a explosive death of whoever i bombed)
Ps: Ever since i got one of your videos recommended, i pretty much binge watched them all and honestly you changed the way of how i play the game since recently i played terraria with my buddies and was melee were i used the Breaker Blade and the Keybrand for the first proper time in a loadout

lunatic cultist also only takes 75% damage from homing weapons including chlorophyte bullets so you would probably kill it faster with normal bullets
I remember ages ago I got the endless musket pouch and turned on an auto clicker. I essentially got an early release of the zenith as I could kill 90% of bosses in under a second.

I remember wanting to cheese the hell out of Duke Fishron and found out that his moveset is so easy to avoid when you place two teleporters at a distance from each other. So I just made a crap ton of chlorophyte bullets and used the sniper to dish out damage as each bullet really counts while using the teleporter left and right where Duke straight up can't hurt me

That weapon is legitimately cracked.
I used to play pvp on mobile, back before it got the major updates. This thing was a beast for playing pvp on mobile. I am a melee main and would fight like so for 98% of the match, like halfway through the match I'd switch to the bullet shroomite armor and hold still to go invisible. Then I'd use the scope to get like 3 kills and switch back to melee
I got it accidentaly on my last playthrough, and it shredded all the way until the pillars

the sniper rifle is one of those weapons that you can get early on but end up using in endgame, if you sacrifice your mobility (use just a flying mount) and go full on damage accessories reforged to lucky, and use either chlorophyte bullets for ease of use or luminite bullets, this thing is an insane secondary weapon to have as a ranger

Used this thing from golem all the way through the Vortex Pillar because I couldn't for the life of me get a Tactical Shotgun. I also killed EoL with it. It's extremely satisfying to use in my opinion, and having piercing by default is very nice.

This could probabaly be a good weapon to use in master mode due to its insanely high damage capabilities. if you’re a good enough shot it can 1-tap most enemies before they even see you
Just craft slab walls and dip them in shimmer lol, they also can be placed in a mob farm to get drops insanely fast. Took me less than 10 minutes to get a sniper rifle and 2 scopes

sniper rifle is indeed quite effective in multiplayer if you have a good connection and accuracy of course.
