Those seats seem rather comfortable, really admire Air China for installing footrests on their newer aircraft's! I recently flew on Air Chinas 777, A332, and 787 and it clearly seems their 747-8i seems to have the best seats among their long haul fleet

And the A330 (which i flew 3 times due to aircraft changes) has the absolute worst 😓
@@PlaneSpottingBerlin I guess you flew one of four oldest and notorious air China A330-200. In China, we call these four “tiger seat” which is for torturing😂 I flew once from Frankfurt to Chengdu, absolutely horrible. Luckily, they are now retired from international route.

Well done trip report. The flight was a winner the moment you stepped on board a 747-8. Aside from the main breakfast entrée (obviously an acquired ethnic taste), pretty good overall service for economy class.

I agree that the congee looked unappetizing, but the other food seemed adequate for Economy. I smile when I see the term "fresh fruit", which often means that it was from a can that was freshly opened. No pleasant surprises on this flight, but (aside from the congee) no really unpleasant ones, either.
I did this same route in 2018, but it was operated by 777/3

I’ve flown Air China back in 2006, LAX to PEK on 747-400. I was stick in the middle seat, but I still had decent room. I had great conversation with the woman to the left of me. Flight seems short after that. Food has a lot to be desired, but they fed me 2 meals with a snack in between. Chicken rice, bad tuna and mayonnaise sandwich, and congee I see was that much different on your flight. Ground transit crew used to provide breakfast and dinner for transit passengers l, but they don’t do that anymore.

I've flown most airlines in Asia and the Americas. Honestly, I can't imagine how good or bad an airline can be. Slight differences, maybe a little more privacy regarding the seats or more generous on food.
Nice video and report. Living in Honolulu, I am used to congee in the restaurants and at our famous Zippy's. It is also called "Jook". I would have eaten it and especially since it was prepared in Frankfurt and labeled as beef :) Congee is just rice cooked to a porridge consistency.
Agree with you ..for traveling Congee is good as it is easy on the stomach beside one are just lazing around the plane, not much activity. Congee or Porridge contains a lot of fluid that will counter the loss fluid while experience while flying. It is another way to rehydrate your body.

Beautiful clean exterior of the aircraft! I hope she flies for a long time. Did you find the isles rather tight? They looked so. But it look like you had good legroom at your seat. Was the seat comfortable? Beautiful view of Mongolia from the air.

As always I enjoy your wing seat captures! Beautiful ship. I noticed a lot of similarities between 777-300 and the 47-800. I’ve always heard horror stories about this airline but from what you’ve showed it’s really not much different then some of the other carriers in coach. Great job!
I took Air China a couple years ago, SFO-PEK, and was pleasantly surprised, too. I, frankly, found them to be better than United. Seat pitch seemed good, food was good, service was good. I wouldn't hesitate to take them again. Just leave enough time to connect through Beijing airport!
randyrohe I’ve flown that route 3 times round trip in my life in the 747-400. The experience was far below that of Cathay Pacific.
How long did it take for the seatbelt sign to be shut off after the plane has stopped at the arrival gate at Beijing? 5 minutes?
Hi were they strict if you went 2-3kg over. Are they strict with carry on and checked bag weight
That congee tastes way more better than what Lufthansa offers as Chinese breakfast option. Maybe that’s only me and my Asian heritage XD

What a great review! I have yet to try the elusive 747-8i. However now that I know there is no air vents. Maybe not. That first meal must have been delicious or u were starving. There was nothing left on the tray.

Would you recommend the seat you were in for this flight? I’m gonna be flying an Air China 747-8 pretty soon and I’m trying to get good vertical phone pictures of the wing and the scenery below. Do you think seat 42L would be better for this or too much wing.

For wifi it depends if it is a newer aircraft like A350 or 787. Older like A330 probably don't have it.
Keep in mind this is China. Probably the internet you can access won't let you do the things you normally would.

that livery makes the brand new plane look 30 years old
The food has lots of room for improvement, dinner and breakfast both. That’s common for all Airlines from China. Other than that, they are fine. That applies to their business class which I use quite often as well.

Nice video. I have flown most of the types in Air China fleet including this B747-8i on a domestic flight. From my perspective，Chinese airlines are getting better in these years. I really recommend to try Air China’s brand new A350，features 1-2-1 business and new real premium economy seats，also the aircraft features Wifi. One personal advice is do not choose Chinese version breakfast，even as a Chinese，I always choose the western option. I feel like some Chinese cuisine like the congee tastes far more worse than it on the ground.
I booked a flight on their A350 on they way back but got an aircraft change to A330...

Very nice aircraft, unfortunately I rare bird, I wish we could see more of them around. Why would you define the airport as "scary"?
Most modern airliners like the a380 , a350 and 787 lack personal air vents nowadays
this congee was better than the one from Melbourne but every air catering is better than australia the congee from melbourne was just white congee with nothing and was like goop

I had a 7 and a half delay from beijing to hong kong
China was my first (technically second, as we took two planes to get there) plane flight. Although I didn't go to Beijing, the flight and the airport we landed at, were beautiful. I love China!
This air plane (B-2480) is also used by China's Premier for visiting foreign countries.
Amazing how china leader save on money by not purchasing aeroplane for government use. No presidential plane by the billions on tax payer expense. They just lease the plane from China Airlines.
not... so really I think it should be B-2479. 2479 was sent to HAM and moderized to VIP configuration by LH Technik. Before 748 the old 744s was used as "VIP" but with no special configuration. It was since 748 while the B-2479 the only one it is Till now ;)
From that angle it looks like a 747SP

To Chinese people (that is, people from China), All non-Chinese food are considered "Western". So be careful with that request.

@7:02 . I think when the flights are coming from Europe the service and etc is better because they are catering to a European audience. This is not the case for the US of coming from China.
I have flown 9 hour flights on United to Hawaii and no food was served at all.
That congee must have been pre-digested - interesting video though 👍

This might be the same plane that Chinese President takes on his diplomatic trips. Air China 747 fleets also serve the government's foreign ministry.
They usually use a 747-400 though

Flew with air china longhaul once, never more. Rude flight attendants, unfriendly and shouting at people to shut the window blinds all the time. Resulting in a flight looking into the headrest...
Jag E i thought shut the window blind for flight more than 3 hours is normal 🙄
They screamed like the chinese army if someone just wanted to take a peek trough the window.
After that, i would rather walk than fly chinese.
