I'm just gonna point out some major stuff you missed. 1. The revolution was about 4 years long (1945-1949) with the Indonesians winning diplomatically. 2. The aftermath of the revolution lead to the formation of the United States of Indonesia (Republik Indonesia Serikat), later converting to a Republic (1950), but remained authoritarian until BJ Habibie became president over the Republic. 3. There was the annexation of Portuguese Timor (1975) and West Papua (1963), Timor Leste achieved independence in 2002 and several attempts and rebellions in West Papua occurred, unknown by popular Indonesian media. Sorry if I missed any, you can post them in the replies.

I think it's too difficult to make a summary of Indonesian history in 12 minutes because it contains details that have an impact on the present 😂😂. Either way the information you get is mostly correct, considering that this is just a 12 minute outline summary will suffice 😀. I can see we have a lot of trouble pronouncing something like a person's name or a place. Nice 👍🏻
Not at all. This video describe Japan's liberation of Indonesia from 350 years of Dutch occupation as if it is an invasion by an evil power. Don't distort history! How happy natives were in1942! After 350 years of failures of independence, having been crashed and killed by Dutch as if they were worms!
I shared this link with my students year 5. Let them learn the history of their home country in 12 mins. I know there are some parts of significant events are missing in this video, but generally your explanation was clear enough for students in elementary. Thanks
That first Dutch expedition commander Cornelis de Houtman, later he was going back to Indonesia and was killed by Acehnese Female Admiral named Keumalahayati with her all-women naval fleet called "Inong balee".After that, Queen Elizabeth I of England then sent an emissary to the Sultan of Aceh, asking permission to enter Malacca Strait.
Being part indonesian I automatically knew where Bali is. But my friend told me she wanted to visited Bali one day. I said to her "oh! You can also visit other parts of Indonesia like Medan, java" and she said "Where's indonesia?" I...💀 I mean eventually she understood, but she genuinely thought Bali was a separate tropical island country. It goes to show how popular and touristy Bali is. But I wish other areas of Indonesia gets highlighted! There's so many places to visit and the history are all different depending where you go! If you guys ever get the chance to visit Indonesia visit the rural areas too! Visit the locals, try out the amazing good from different parts of Indo. ❤
Some of the information are wrong... indonesian actually fighting the allied force in east, US submarine and warship also seen in the war zone when indonesian force fighting the dutch. Indonesian independence is also not given by the Japanese, and actually we are fighting them, there are several "apology" from both dutch and japan gov later on.
Not gonna lie, a bit dissapointed at how overlysimplified the representation is. It make us look like just another insignificant country born from colonialism when in reality it was a battleground of foreign superpowers asserting their dominance while the people has to fought hard for their freedom. Ketika gajah gajah berkelahi tikus dan semut yang mati Ketika yang kuat berkelahi yang lemah yang tersakiti
I would love to see a great details about Srivijaya and Mataram having same dynasty, how Mataram would fall into chaos and moved their capital East, fractured by family feud, overthrown by a young man cucking local leader, created a kingdom that would rather pissed off Yuan Mongols, and series of events that gave rise to Majapahit. Anyway, great video
While there are some minor errors in this video, it's still very useful and a good introduction for young students learning about Indonesia. The archipelago remains as interesting today as it was 300 years ago. After years of autocratic rule, Indonesia deserves so much more than just another strongman President.
I’m from Indonesia! I really like our history, you know.. about when the Dutch and Japan came to us.. So I watched your videos to see if you really know us! Thx for making this wonderful video! Love it! ❤️
@@Knowledgia yeah it would be very difficult to tell all that in just one video . ln fact, each island has a long story like Sumatra with Aceh and Sriwijaya, Java with Majapahit and Demak, Sulawesi with Gowa and Luwu, Kalimantan with Banjar and even Maluku and Papua with Ternate and Tidore ... it would be very heavy if just being told with 1 video ...
unisoviet was also very meritorious when seizing Irian Jaya, which was still in the Dutch colonel at that time.unisoviet sent a number of tools of war to Indonesia.
I'm Dutch and i am really entriqued with this video about Indonesian history. I never knew it had such a deep and facinating history. In school i was never told about all this, only about the colonial times. I really hope to visit one time. As a dutchmen i am really and deeply ashamed of how badly we treated the Indonesian people and how we exploited the country and almost destroyed their culture. I honesty hope that u guys have or can forgive us. Much love from the Netherlands🇳🇱❤🇮🇩
If you get the chance to visit ,and have the chance to meet up with the over 60'ies mainly, might still be able to communicate in Dutch.Den Haag in particular was/is known as Kampong van Java ( The village of Java )
1:44 Just to be clear, the Cholas of India did not convert Srivijaya from Buddhism to Hinduism. The Hindus of Java did that. The Cholas mostly just pillaged Srivijaya, making it vulnerable to conquest by rival Javanese Hindus who expanded from the East to create the Majapahit Empire. To this day, the majority of Indonesians are Javanese (40%) and trace their heritage to the Majapahit Empire even though they're now Muslim. I just wanted to make that clear because the way the video worded it made it seem as if the Cholas of India were the ones who converted Indonesia to Hinduism when it was in fact converted by Javanese Hindus. Just wanted to clarify😊

You forgot to mention many important and interesting details. Like the fact that the Arabs took 36,000 slaves from Bali. And that Stamford Raffles tried hard to stamp out the slavery of Indonesians by their own people. The British also stopped the brutal treatment of Indonesians by the Dutch and cleared and rebuild the Stupa Borobodur which had fallen into disrepair and was completely overgrown by Jungle. The colonials left many fine buildings which can be seen in many places around indonesia such as Bandung and the Majapahit Hotel in Surabaya. Also the wonderful Batavia area in Jakarta. Indonesia is a wonderful country with wonderful people and well worth an extended visit. Everywhere you will have a warm welcome and a beautiful smile. ❤😃
Dutch colonized Indonesia for like 350 years & Japan for 3.5 years. But according to what my teachers say, 3.5 years colonized from Japan was way more torturing compare than 350 years colonized by Dutch. Japan was very cruel to the natives back then. Many of them are tortured & ordered to work really hard without any food until they starve to death.
Not the entire archipelago colonized for 350 years. They came here 350 years ago. Its the ages of their arival. They conquered the archipelago in a long strugling way, mainly because indonesia is consist of many kingdoms back then. Some of the wilayah even untouched by their colonization. And some only colonized for a little time. Its true some of the wilayah are colonized for 350 years, but some only for little period of time.

You can also visit other parts of Indonesia like Medan, java" and she said "Where's indonesia?"
I...💀 I mean eventually she understood, but she genuinely thought Bali was a separate tropical island country.
Before Srivijaya and Majapahit rose, there were several great kingdoms in Indonesia, such as Kadiri, Singasari, and many more.

Not gonna lie, a bit dissapointed at how overlysimplified the representation is.
It make us look like just another insignificant country born from colonialism when in reality it was a battleground of foreign superpowers asserting their dominance while the people has to fought hard for their freedom.
Ketika gajah gajah berkelahi tikus dan semut yang mati
Ketika yang kuat berkelahi yang lemah yang tersakiti

Thank you for explaining Indonesia's history!! It's an honor 😳👍

Indonesia has such a great history and it's very detailed. Unfortunately is not possible to cover all in 12 minutes :(
@@Knowledgia yeah it would be very difficult to tell all that in just one video . ln fact, each island has a long story like Sumatra with Aceh and Sriwijaya, Java with Majapahit and Demak, Sulawesi with Gowa and Luwu, Kalimantan with Banjar and even Maluku and Papua with Ternate and Tidore ... it would be very heavy if just being told

350 year is bullshit...It's just propaganda to make all Indonesian want to independent...
Show me the evidence?
