    Damn, I have just found the fact that Indonesia is the only ex-colonized nation that refused to use their former colonial master's language. That should explain why neither English or Dutch become first language in Indonesia and I find that cool as hell. I have just found that my country Japan ever colonized Indonesia and I am sorry for that. In Japan, we are never told about atrocities our country has ever done.

      @@thebinalz Sadly like other ex-colonizers, Japan refused to openly admit the wrongdoings they did. This is shameful to my country. I am surprised that Indonesia has made a lot of progress like now. Indonesia in my opinion is not a backwater country anymore, with huge over 1 trillion GDP, Indonesia is not a country to push over. If Indonesia can make use its domestic market at maximum, Indonesia can be an economic powerhouse.

    This is basically how it’s seen from the Dutch’s point of view, Indonesia has its own version. Thank you for the effort, but you’ve made some mistakes, including mistaking Suharto for Sukarno, and calling Sukarno ‘Achmed Sukarno’ which was never his name.
    Sukarno was just Sukarno, he didn’t have the usual Western ‘first name-family name’ naming pattern. He was born Kusno Sosrodiharjo, son of Raden Sukemi Sosrodiharjo and Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai, but he never did use his father’s surname of Sosrodiharjo and went by a single name, Sukarno.

    • @spacetator69
      @spacetator69 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      "Achmed Sukarno" is never his name indeed. But he used it when it comes to international delegacy, let's say it's for the purpose on his pasport. Since I doubt people use single name at those times.
      As for his name, indeed his birth name is Kusno Sorodiharjo. But there's story when he still young, he often get sick. Thus his father changed his name to "Soekarno" since birth certificate isn't a thing way back then. "Soe" means good, while there's several interpretation behind the meaning of "Karno".

    • @kilanspeaks
      @kilanspeaks ปีที่แล้ว +58

      @@spacetator69 he never used the name ‘Achmed’ as such. Whenever asked whether ‘Achmed’ was his name, he pointed out that the only name he had was the name given to him by his parents, Sukarno. But he didn’t mind it either, as the name أحمد has a good meaning in Arabic (‘praised’).
      As for the origin of the name ‘Achmed’ we don’t know for sure, but the most popular theory that it came from Indonesian students in Egypt. According to historian Rushdie Hoesein, Indonesian students actively campaigned for Indonesia’s independence within the years 1946-1947 using Islam as the main sentiment to gain Egyptian support. When asked whether the president was a Muslim, a prominent student from Indonesia named Zein Hasan claimed that the president’s name was Ahmad Soekarno to prove that he was indeed a Muslim.
      That was how he was known as Ahmad Soekarno in Middle Eastern countries. The theory was, the Western media picked it up from there, and as they’re not used to the idea of having a single name, they happily accepted it as the truth. The name ‘Achmed’ is specifically popular in German and Dutch where it fits their orthography.
      Birth certificate has always been a thing even since colonial time, known as ‘geboorteakte’ then. Going by only one single name is normal in Indonesia, it’s not until recently that the government changed the regulation for passports to have at least two names on them. सु- (su-) indeed means ‘good’ or ‘pure’ while ‘कर्ण (karna) is a character from Mahabharata, his name bears the meaning of ‘ear’ in Sanskrit. In common Javanese dialect ‘karna’ becomes ‘karnå’ but transliterated as ‘karno’ due to limitation in standard Latin alphabet.
      Hence ‘Sukarno’ means ‘good Karna’ (Karna was loyal to the antagonistic Kauravas in Mahabharata) or ‘good ear’ or maybe a ‘good listener’ if that sounds better.

    One of critical reasons why the US retreaded its support for the netherland was because the republic although crushed, in fact it was not completely eradicated, and by that period many republican leaders who tended toward the left started to seek armed support from the soviet and china. Now imagine what would happen if a spark that the netherland failed to extinguish, was instead refuled by the east bloc. Indonesia will become the first pandemonium of the 3th WW. Especially when the netherland stubbornly tried to hold new guinea. Belanda melihat Indonesia sebagai Budak yg memberontak pada kehendak Tuannya maka, aksi militer Belanda selama 1945-1949 dinamakan aksi polisionil/penegakan hukum dan ketertiban. Banyak Anak Muda Belanda yg gabung Militer Belanda untuk dikirim ke Hindia Belanda karena termakan omongan/propaganda bahwa Hindia Belanda dijalankan/dibajak oleh sekelompok Teroris Pengacau. Hasilnya begitu mulai banyak informasi mengalir dari Hindia Belanda dan Internasional tentang kelakuan Militer Belanda di Hindia Belanda justru Rakyat Belanda sendiri yang menolak aksi polisionil Belanda. Indonesia tidak merdeka dengan santai dan diberi cuma-cuma oleh Belanda. Indonesia berjuang dengan apapun yg Kami punya. Sudah biasa ada cerita kalo Tentara Pelajar dan TRI bertempur dengan 1 senapan untuk 5 orang dengan 4 orang lainnya bawa arit, golok, atau bambu runcing. Semangat Merdeka Rakyat Indonesia kala itu sudah jauh dari akal para Militer Belanda sehingga di Lapangan para Militer Belanda bisa paham bahwa aksi Mereka ternyata memang sebagai bentuk Penjajahan.

      Contohnya Inggris dan negara-negara jajahannya yg diberi visa gratis!
      It will not be possible, because all colonial countries that provide visas to their colonized countries are countries that have been liberated by their colonizing countries / have succeeded in having a large hidden influence on these commonwealth countries even though they are secret and hidden
      For example the UK and its Commonwealth countries which are given free visas!
      Het zal niet mogelijk zijn, omdat alle koloniale landen die visa verstrekken aan hun gekoloniseerde landen, landen zijn die zijn bevrijd door hun koloniserende landen / erin zijn geslaagd een grote verborgen invloed uit te oefenen op deze landen van het Gemenebest, ook al zijn ze geheim en verborgen
      Bijvoorbeeld het VK en de landen van het Gemenebest die gratis visa krijgen!

    what makes me really hurt is how they say Indonesia has to pay for all the facilities that the Dutch made in Indonesia, it's very, very sad that we are in debt, from 1960 to 2002 Indonesia was struggling to pay debts to the Dutch, but the Dutch forgot how the VOC greedily extracted resources. Indonesia's power, and making it the richest company ever, surpassing the wealth of the Mark Zuckerberg Tesla company and the 10 richest companies in the world will not be able to match the VOC's wealth, but if in the past Indonesia had the power and collected Indonesia's wealth which was stolen by the VOC for 350 years, the Netherlands I won't be able to pay it any time.. sometimes I think thanks to Germany after invading the Netherlands which made the Dutch internal and military weak in their government, and at that time almost at the same time as Japan's expansion into Indonesia which made the Dutch military weak inside and outside, the momentum was very right for Indonesia to achieve independence and against the Dutch

    Great video! This explain the reason of my father who studied in the Netherlands said that Dutch (and probably most of the Western/European countries) acknowledge the Independence Day of Indonesia is in 1949. In which, contradictively opposite with stories I learned in history class in school, and contitutionally we have 17th of August 1945 as our Independence Day.
    We are now celebrating the 78th years of Independence.
    Despite the debate on which year that actually Indonesia is independent, I just want to correct some of the picture and graphic used in the video are irrelevant:
    1. The picture of Soekarno and Royal Dutch Family is actually Soeharto (the 2nd President of Indonesia);
    2. The map of Indonesia, during those timelines (between 1927 and 1949), Timor Leste is in the territory of Indonesia, just like West Papua, although they were colonialised by the Portugese until 1975 and officially become Indonesia's in 1976. They gain their independence in 2002.

    Wow, you're so informed about this, I'm touched. But, let me correcting some little things:
    - 1811 - British occupied Indonesia by force from Netherland, end by British got Malaca, the Malaysia, Indonesia was still by the hand of Netherland and some to Portuguese.
    - 1945 - Indonesia gained independent from Japan, not Netherland, it was when Hiroshima(Aug 6) and Nagasaki(Aug 9) got bombed. Netherland couldn't occupy Indonesia at that time cz war with Germany
    - 1945,1946 - British army came to Indonesia to take control of the situation but in actuality they came with Netherland army and wanted to occupy Indonesia and it soon cause war again.
    Nederlands-Indonesische rondetafelconferentie was the negotiation name that finally make Netherland back down. (There's 1 last thing after that, war for West New Guinea, end in 1969).

    The Philippines is one of the countries supports Indonesia sovereignty becuase President Elpidio Quirino supported Indonesia in the war of Independence but instead of sending their troops there, the Philippines served as a diplomacy tool between the Netherlands representatives and Indonesia representatives held in Manila and the Dutch quit Indonesia and they support the Philippine-Indonesia Relations because they are friendly cultures and people since ancient times
    On November 24, 1949, just a month before Dutch withdrawal from Indonesia, the Philippines and Indonesia established a Diplomatic Relations and opened each other’s embassy a year later..Then President Quirino visited Indonesia in 1950 and Sukarno in Manila in 1951 and then the longest uninterrupted diplomatic relations in Asia-Pacific Region begins until now
    This Year, Philippines and Indonesia will commemorate the 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations and let’s hope to continue the strengthening relations with two countries from the past to the present and the future 😊😊

Indonesia did make a mistake by invading East Timor, although in fact it recruited East Timor into a special province, and prospered it. However, due to different historical backgrounds, we (Indonesia) had to conduct a referendum so that there would be no bloodshed. Meanwhile, for Papua and Aceh, it is still historically bound to be part of the Dutch colony. Why the US withdrawn their support to The Dutch ?
    1. Because the CIA and M16 had found traces of communist's activities (USSR and China) around South East Asia which proven by the rise of communist party in all the countries in the area.
    If Indonesia which had the largest population and territory become a communist country, then the consequences will be dire to the US and it's allies interests compared to the Dutch's naggings.
    2. While most the Indonesia leaders were religious, but many were inclined to the socialist movement which tends to support the left (communist). By the Sukarno era, Indonesia prefer to acquires armament from the USSR/Chinese rather than the western countries. A move that the US government sees as an imminent communist threat in South East Asia.
    3. If The Dutch managed to regain East Indies, then all the natural resources and commodities found in the area will fall to the Dutch administration (monopoly). So, any other country/corporate that wants a concession will have to negotiate with the Dutch, and only if the Dutch government were willing to do so. While negotiating with Indonesian government will be a lot more easier.
