    I would throw some rags and rubber bits in there too to help absorb impact prolong the life of the stuffing

    I built one like this 11 years ago , it worked really well. I used the tarps wrapped around lumber on the outside. The only issue is some arrows will get stuck if there is any lip or edge on your inserts.

    Get some cinder blocks and set the target up on those. Keeping that wood off the ground will keep it from rotting out.

    I made something similar several years ago. I made a 12" deep 4' x 4' frame with 2x6's, wrapped it with chicken wire to hold in the stuffing, and then burlap for the target face. It is stuffed with clothes and my kids old stuffed animals. It has held up uncovered and in the rain. I may empty it and suff with plastic since it is so damn heavy.

    Ive discovered the best think to wrap a target with is synthetic underlayment used in roofing, one roll will last you a lifetime, you can get it at lowes, stuff is the best for a covering a target and waterproof

    Good stuff. I built a 36x36 target 16" deep and stuffed it with pallet wrap and it has been working great for 3 years now kept outside all the time. I originally used doubled up grass seed bags as target faces and they held up ok for two years, but now I have the Third Hand Archery skins and I highly recommend those. They are super nice and great quality. I also am trying to build up my home range and so far have a Third Hand Rag Bag hanging at short range, a Bigshot 3D Doe target and Blob broadhead target at mid range, and my 36x36 homemade target at long range. Next will be adding more 3D animals like a Bear, Hog, etc.

    I may suggest burlap material instead of landscape fabric. Sunlight degrades that stuff and turns it into a fragile disintegrating mess. I used to stuff burlap sacks with the same stretch wrap stuffing and sew the top with paracord and zip ties. Lasted for years. Great idea on the large size though. Just a thought in case that outer gets destroyed quicker than you were hoping. Either way, it's a great feeling to be resourceful and save money! Good luck on finishing your range and enjoy!

    Good DIY targets are the best! I would suggest taking a tarp and wrap the whole target around the sides to protect the plywood or a tin roof. I like to use trampoline material for my target faces, one trampoline will cover a 4ft target probably 6-7 times. Mine lasts about a year and I shoot a ton into the targets.

      That’s a great idea! I just got done stuff this one fully with wrap and it’s a total unit! I’ll have to try the tarp when it comes time to re-face

    What about adding a hinge or two on the lid so that it can be opened as needed without puling the nails and weakening the boards?

    You should've packed it with that fabric instead of the plastic. I made a target out of old shirts and it stops my crossbow arrows at 400 fps. Only goes in about 7 inches and pulls out like butter. Fixed blade heads like a G5 Montec get hung up in the fabric though . So, Swhacker practice heads and field points is what I shoot at it. Nice video man.

    Great video and project. Do the arrows pull easily?

    Does the plastic wrap get stuck on the arrows after you shoot like a film from it?

    • @joshuadouglasarchery
      @joshuadouglasarchery  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t had any experience with that! I imagine if you had a field point not matched up to your arrow it might!

      Works fine almost a year later after being out in all weather! Still stops all my arrows, thanks for the input!
