    Another great video Heather! Crossing the Skagerak is not for the faint of heart. I myself remember a trip over to Denmark with the family where we stayed for 4 hours outside Hirtshals due to bad weather before we could dock. Our children, who are now adults and in their 30s, remember this trip as if it were yesterday. Making memories is what it's all about. One day we parents are gone and then only memories like these will be the link to a past where our children were free and carefree. Time flies so use it wisely.

      Thank you! Yes! Our ferry got bumped up an hour and a half so we drove down from Stavanger at 23:30 and then napped in the ferry line. I was too tired to document that part! Making memories is worth it though. We just go with the flow. 😊

      On my first trip across Skagerak the weather conditions were so harsh that people crawled on the floor of the Tax Free shop to buy alcohol and cigarettes. It was next to impossible to stay on your feet.

      @@ahkkariq7406 oh that would be terrible! We just had several car alarms and lots of holding on to walk.

    Great video! Finally got a chance to sit down and watch it. Being able to travel to different countries by just taking a ferry is the way to go!

    Nice! That boat is almost brand new. It entered service a year ago in June 2021 replacing the much smaller "Fjord Cat" that only took 200 cars and 660 passengers.
    The "Fjord FSTR" has almost twice the capacity at 410 cars and 1200 passengers. Though it is a tiny bit slower at top speed.
    "Fjord Cat" is now named "Skane Jet" and runs between Ystad, Sweeden and Sassnitz, Germany.

    Looks fun! I took a car ferry for the first time a few years ago, across the Long Island Sound, from Connecticut to Long Island. It was a much more basic ferry. Probably a shorter ride, a couple hours. The parking in the video looks familiar. When my brother bought the tickets, he had to specify what type of car he'd be driving. Apparently, the collective weight of the vehicles was more important than the number of vehicles.

      Yes we did have to state the type of car. So I’m sure they take less cars when they load two passengers busses and some RVs, which they did on the way back. I was surprised to see passenger busses, but it makes sense.

    Will you be taking the other ferry home? The one that goes to Stavanger and Bergen?

    • @heatherabroad
      @heatherabroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it only had availability from Stavanger to Denmark and not back. We were pressed for scheduling so we did take the same one back. I’d love to ride that one as I see it may be more like a mini cruise ship!

    There are not so many ferry-rides in the world with the capacity of this one. Takes 410 cars, 1200 passengers ...and 51500 hp gives a cruise speed of 37 knots (42,6 miles/hour).

      I was surprised at how big it was. And nice!
