I have the '24 GMC 3500 and just towed my new 14k lb 5th wheel for a week...let's just say the engine exhaust work really freaking good when it kicks in! Like seriously good! GMC seems to let the transmission do it's work to slow you first before it lets the engine exhaust take over. It slowed me in the Arkansas Ozarks from 75 to 65 on a steep downhill in only a few seconds, but only after I had tapped the brakes to get it to kick in. As for the turbo lag, I feel it too, but I've already learned to rev the engine a little before I need to gun it into traffic quickly. You test the 0 to 60 again, but with the revs higher when you launch! I do miss the seats in my '20 Ram 1500 tho. Wife hates the GMC seats on long trips already. 😅
Are you talking about hauling or towing? Towing wise that's nothing but if you're referring to hauling as in putting it in your bed that's beyond idiotic. It's max hauling capacity is 1,820 it's. You nearly doubling that can cause damage to your bed, power powertrain and make you a hazard to people around you.
Thanks for the fair Evaluation. You cannot ignore the fuel issue. The ram delivers greater than 10% more distance on the same fuel. With diesel around So Cal at 18:24 the high $4/gal to low $5/gal that’s the same as buying fuel for 50 cents less per gallon! Imagine saving $10/tank.
I'm wondering when ram is going to quit teasing us about a 9 speed Allison and do it , a Cummins paired up with Allison tranny would be the ultimate 😁👍
Ok here is my 2 cents worth A 2500 is a 2500. Doesn’t matter what brand it is it’s a 2500 Back in the day guys understood what you could tow and haul with a 2500. There were no numbers from dealers. Every year of Dodge with a Cummins is still really sought after except maybe a 3d gen and some people even like them No comparison. Don’t get hung up on the numbers folks
I tested the 24 GM and the dead pedal lag was really notable. I messaged different TH-camrs and your the only one who felt it also. It was really annoying in traffic. Some comments back were that this was normal but I've never felt it that bad when i drove the 1st Gen LP5. Its something in the GM tune.
@@neilenglot3039 I haven't noticed any lag in the 22 23s. In 24 they made changes to the turbo, and its controller as well as some injector and piston changes. The new electronic turbo controller is suppose to be much quicker so I expected no lag at all, but was disappointed when I dove it. I dont think its any of these changes that are causing the lag, I think it's the ECM programming that's trying to eliminate low RPM soot before the turbo spools up that would cause the DPF to regen more often. I ordered a new 24 before driving one and am trading my 2018 Ram in but after driving one im not sure. Drive a 24 and let us know.
Jeez, guys, on GM trucks press and hold the Traction Control switch - HOLD it in until you see both Traction Control AND Stabillitrak turn off (you'll see yellow icons in the gauge display). Put the truck in Tow/Haul mode (this increases the line pressure on the clutches in the tranny and will help prevent slippage and limp-mode). Put the truck in 4WD HI, step on the brake with your left foot, press on the gas pedal and bring it up to about 1,500 rpm for a couple seconds. This will allow the turbo to spool, and then go to the floor with the gas pedal while at the same time coming off the brake - and HOLD ON. You aren't gonna believe what these trucks will feel like coming off the line with a 4WD boosted launch.

I timed both in stock form with some brake torquing. At 6400 feet above sea level (where we live) the Duramax was a full second faster 0-60 7.7 seconds. Now, my Cummins was tuned. When I cranked up the Cummins to level 6 with some brake torquing it hit 60mph in 5.9 seconds with a whole heapin’ of black smoke.
After owning a 2022 ram 3500 and now the Duramax 3500 both long bed, the ram have that long lag were the Duramax not as much. I'm pretty sure Ram keeps it at 10k, so businesses can use them. Over that you get into Dot #'s, CDL, etc. And good news if you need more you can just buy the 3500.
Ram has the best exterior and interior since 2019, I give credit to gm because finally catch up with the interior, ford and gm have to redesign almost every year just to be able to catch up with ram.🎉🎉
Another input, the New Chevy and Gmc, there trucks, are massive in the front,, love it, I used to Drive over the road, in a Kenworth large car,, so like the size of gm trucks,
I think you gotta put the GMC in tow haul mode for a better take off. If I remember correctly, it basically skips 1st gear when not in tow/haul mode. You should do it again for the GMC. Also, before watching the RAM, I’m still taking the 10speed tranny of the GM to be faster than the RAM’s 68RFE with the low-output Cummins
So both are nice trucks first of all. However I honestly don’t think Ram is a truly viable option in the 3/4 ton segment. There’s just too many compromises you have to make with them. On the flip side with GM you actually don’t have to go to a 3500 unless you just want to, and that was before the max tow package on the 2500s. I say it a lot but it’s just the true facts. Ram is way behind GM and Ford in this segment. Way behind.
Cummins is a medium duty engine , duramax is a light duty engine. Although the duramax has more power on paper, put them in a challenging fleet setting and they will fall apart.
Great job….checked out a diesel mechanics channel and they claim cummins won’t hold up in the diesel world……worth checking on these videos!!!!..although cummins has been around for many years!!!

Can someone please tell me what truck to get I'm almost 17 and I need to know which is better, I've worked my ass off and have a good chunk of money to spend. So now I'm just wondering which one is better, I live off-road and sometimes tow Cat tractors with my Dad's 2021 F450. So I need one with enough power for heavy duty towing and ruff and rugged terrain.
I love my 23 Chevy custom. But in the future on my next truck purchase whether it be ram or gm I will definitely be ordering my next truck to get it exactly the way I want. Maybe in 3 or 4 years when I’m ready gm will have more comfortable seat options and maybe ram will have a total redesign for under the hood and the exterior looks.
Hey JB your spreadsheet at the end said 3500, but I know these are 2500s. Long time subscriber, love the content. Get back in a Ram 😉but I understand comparison videos make you a living. Hope all is well with the fam!
Gm is a pretty boy occasional work truck. Ram is for everyday working. 2500 series trucks are a joke to be gone with, but if I had to choose one, it’s be rhe Cummins with the ho and aisin.
Lol to everything you said 2500s are a joke? And weird that GM is a pretty boy truck… I guess all of the duramax trucks that I see with company logos and utility beds are just for looks and nothing else You sound like someone who has never owned trucks like these and can’t afford them to begin with
Define work??? Pulling trailers isn’t the only job in the world. The majority Of the businesses in this country who need a work truck only need a 2500. Plumbers. Carpenters. Welders electricians. People who use little trucks to pull trailers for work are a very little piece of the pie compared to the others I just mentioned.
@@Bostonharborwater what I classify as work is when the power house (truck) is primarily used to operate business. Since 2500 are small trucks and I have no use for them, I typically overlook them. Daily towing and hauling primarily is what I consider a working to truck to be and able to do. What you described is low weight businesses. These trucks for them, are more of an office than a working truck. GMC make great non daily trailering trucks as the can’t handle the stresses day in and out. This is why rams inline 6 is primarily used for hotshot and transport. People do use the ford 6.7, but rarely does anyone hotshot with a GMC. There are a few people, maybe a handful on TH-cam, but the rest is RAM.
@@Bostonharborwater bottom line. No one buys a gmc to really work hard for them. They’re garbage. They don’t hold up for transport and hauling. Plumber and general construction, these are right at home with. I had a brand new 2020 and 2021 gmc Sierra 3500 and both where sold back to the dealer not even 6 months after owning. They are not meant for hard work.
I’ll be happy to disrespect the Firestone tires for ya JB. My first HD truck had them and had to replace at 25,000 miles. Firestone Workforce tires are garbage.
GM don’t have the Allison any more. The 10 speed transmission that GM has behind the Duramax is a Ford trans. Allison let them put their brand on it and I feel it was a huge mistake considering all the problems the 10 speeds have been having. Also if you want to put Horsepower comparisons, you should get the Ram 3500 H.O. With the 6 speed Aisin trans with over 1,000lbs torque Vs the Duramax.
Excellent intelligent information! You know my answer? It's a no-brainer GMC all the way! The Ram 2500 with the inferior 68 RFE and emission problems too. GMC all the way home! If the 3500 single axle 425hp/1000ft. Then I would go for the Ram all the way home! But thank God for my 2004.5 H.O Cummins 525hp Modified. With highly modified 48RE! I'm Old School. I'm good! Smog exempt!
Forget all those mpg numbers.. when you drive big rig and work on them for over 35 years we never ever tried to use mpg as an indicator. Diesel motors are based iron efficiency.. most guys like cat cummins Detroit all have numbers we look at and that is lbs of fuel burn per torque and hp... just like my 5.9 99 ram was getting 21 plus on highway.. my 2012 6.7 gets maybe 15 on highway.. but again you look at hp n tq between the 2 motors it will always require more fuel burn just because of increase in hp n tq... its really not about miles over speed like a gas... the prob is the big three just want to show off speed performance and how fast it can tow off the line... I'm mean really. I have a mack a freightliner and they range between 425hp to 500 on freightliner... believe it out not I dont care about 0 to 60. Every tractor will move 70k plus... and get itnto highway speed within a mile or so.. .its all about longhaul and minimal repairs for at least half a million miles....
Good job comparing the two - on the GMC you have to tap the brake to engage the exhaust brake. The GMC exhaust brake protocol is for idiots. Another problem is when the brake engages it takes forever to disengage and shift back in the correct gear. Mike
Get ready to be surprised 😊…11:30 for the Cummins vs 11:36 from the GMC for the 1/8th mile. GMC did win the 0-60 by 0.5 sec with its 100 more hp & tq, tho.
@@jeffs2809 the 1/8th times don't add up since the GMC was already ahead at 60 and 3.5 mph faster @ the 1/8th. Things continued in the same trajectory with the GMC posting a quicker time in the 1,000 ft and 4.3 mph faster. Run it out to the 1/4 mile and the difference will be even greater.
The only reason RAM is using Cummins is because Stellantis cannot make good Diesel engines, the ecoboost died because emissions and it was pretty bad engine. I have a friend that had three engines of the eco diesel, that engines died afte 100k miles. While the GM or Ford last much more than Stellantis Diesel Engine.
The payload on the Ram is flat embarrassing. Some groceries and 4 adults and it’s almost maxed out. MPG is very close since the Duramax had to sit stopped at a stop light with such a small trip mileage test
It’s a regulation game Ram is playing. By keeping the GVWR at 10,000 it lets contractors get a heavy 15k trailer and stay under DOT/CDL requirements. Ford actually sells a 10,000 GVWR package that lowers their trucks payload- it’s the same truck with a different sticker. TLDR: it helps businesses /contractors save money

What about the 2023 Ram 6.4 vs 2024 Chevy 6.6.
Do you see the difference in the 10 speed chevy.
GMC. Hands down. I’ve driven them all. GMC. All the way
I'm pretty sure Ram keeps it at 10k, so businesses can use them. Over that you get into Dot #'s, CDL, etc. And good news if you need more you can just buy the 3500.
I have a 2022 Chevy 3500 duramax and just finished a 500 mile trip getting 21.5mpg average calculated.
Empty? Not towing I would guess based on those numbers. Ram would be similar.
Exhaust brake works a lot better with the torque converter locked up, you need to be in tow/haul mode
Way behind.
Got to touch the brakes for exhaust brake to work at full potential
I HAVE A RAM 3500 Manual Transmission and believe me is better than GMC SIERRA … AT4 are made to straight to the garbage
Cummins is a medium duty engine , duramax is a light duty engine. Although the duramax has more power on paper, put them in a challenging fleet setting and they will fall apart.
Duramax is also a medium duty engine
Great job….checked out a diesel mechanics channel and they claim cummins won’t hold up in the diesel world……worth checking on these videos!!!!..although cummins has been around for many years!!!
Well, I've got 347,000 on my 1999 Dodge 3500, and it's running just fine.
💥💥 IM NOT WANNA LIE BUT I USE TO HAVE A GMC SIERRA 2500 and is just a piece of 🗑️ ❌CRAP❌🗑️ AFTER 150,000 milles start with so many problems and I use it as a construction work truck everyday, I have a trailer and didn’t put so much heavy staff and I have to many problems with it but …….
I GET A ❌💥💥RAM 2500 Laramie LongHorn Manual Transmission is beast everywhere I go 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
my 2016 ram is failing every month it feels like with 143000...transmition in march, waterpump now, radiator last year
That’s nothing compared to ford, they have catastrophic engine failures with very low mileage, and I’ve seen some chevys with transmission failures as well.
2WD or 4WD, Tire sizes and psi are important info to include
Down shift a gear and turn on the exhaust brake. I rarely use the brakes
Ford Fu…g Ranger
I love my 23 Chevy custom. But in the future on my next truck purchase whether it be ram or gm I will definitely be ordering my next truck to get it exactly the way I want. Maybe in 3 or 4 years when I’m ready gm will have more comfortable seat options and maybe ram will have a total redesign for under the hood and the exterior looks.
I am order a 2024 Silverado LT 3500 with like every option added. Would love to get an Ltz but I’m up to $65k really don’t want to go any higher
The Cummins 8-speed is for me, a little smoother than the 10-speed Duramax. Seems GM may maybe one revision away
Hey JB your spreadsheet at the end said 3500, but I know these are 2500s.
Long time subscriber, love the content. Get back in a Ram 😉but I understand comparison videos make you a living. Hope all is well with the fam!
GMC for us!
Gm is a pretty boy occasional work truck. Ram is for everyday working. 2500 series trucks are a joke to be gone with, but if I had to choose one, it’s be rhe Cummins with the ho and aisin.
Lol to everything you said
2500s are a joke? And weird that GM is a pretty boy truck… I guess all of the duramax trucks that I see with company logos and utility beds are just for looks and nothing else
You sound like someone who has never owned trucks like these and can’t afford them to begin with
Define work???
@@MonsterTruckingCo. That’s an excellent story
The engine brake probably dont engage tell you touch the brake, most new semis are that way now too
The "turbo lag" he experienced was the torque management programmed into the 2500 GM trucks. 3500 trucks do not have this software programming.
Stupid torsion bar IFS from 20 years ago, and the way the V8 packages for maintenance just sucks. Had one, didn't keep it long term for that reason.
GMC engineering is beyond ram and ford
I’ll be happy to disrespect the Firestone tires for ya JB. My first HD truck had them and had to replace at 25,000 miles. Firestone Workforce tires are garbage.
Best motor…Cummins….best. Truck…chevy@@@@
You should have got the 6.7 HO engine to try
GM don’t have the Allison any more. The 10 speed transmission that GM has behind the Duramax is a Ford trans. Allison let them put their brand on it and I feel it was a huge mistake considering all the problems the 10 speeds have been having. Also if you want to put Horsepower comparisons, you should get the Ram 3500 H.O. With the 6 speed Aisin trans with over 1,000lbs torque Vs the Duramax.
Lag is because it is a 2500 and has torque management in the first 3 gears
Excellent intelligent information! You know my answer? It's a no-brainer GMC all the way! The Ram 2500 with the inferior 68 RFE and emission problems too. GMC all the way home! If the 3500 single axle 425hp/1000ft. Then I would go for the Ram all the way home! But thank God for my 2004.5 H.O Cummins 525hp Modified. With highly modified 48RE! I'm Old School. I'm good! Smog exempt!
JB, you gotta stop screwing around and hook your 5’er to yours and hit that grade so we can all see if the 37’s are straight or not. Let’s go!
My 21 l5p isn’t that kind of a delay
The mega cab is around 800lbs more than the crew which is most equivalent to the gmc.
Cummins!!!!
You say your 6.6 Gasser is slow but the Cummins is very close to the same 0-60 time, less than 10% difference 🤔
The 2500 rams come with a detuned Cummins makes around 800 torque and 370 hp the modern gassers really aren’t as bad as people say they are.
@@Back_door_bandit_98 exactly!
That's not near far enough for fuel mileage comparison but all agree with the GMC all the way
with my 24 if u drive it aggressively for a bit it will accelerate alot quicker. otherwise it will take off gently.
I think the GMC will win
Gotta be in trailer mode, lol
Chevy with the 10speed easily, no comparison
Why not test the high output the horse power is closer the torque is more
Gotta compare 3500s and get the HO Cummins.
Ram is very
Like Driving a big rig empty, with the Jake on, why you do that ,,put you threw the windshield, lol chevy smarter, don't need it with empty truck,,
Ram is the winner.
GMC, Step up the seat package I'm GMC Please!
I hope GMC!
Duramax
Using a trip meter for mpg is a sin. They are horrifically inaccurate.
Ram on takeoff
Gmc on top end
Ram is good on gas mean diesel
Good job comparing the two - on the GMC you have to tap the brake to engage the exhaust brake. The GMC exhaust brake protocol is for idiots. Another problem is when the brake engages it takes forever to disengage and shift back in the correct gear. Mike
Both are great hammers and both will drive a nail! Ram has the nicest interior options but ride is nicer in the gmc! Ford is a good truck also.
I'd be surprised if the Cummins was best at anything, but it does have the name.
100% GMC
Ram still has that low payload, they need to change that no one buying that 9800 gvw 😂
Ecoboost is a Ford gasoline engine.
@ you are right it is eco diesel
The payload on the Ram is flat embarrassing. Some groceries and 4 adults and it’s almost maxed out. MPG is very close since the Duramax had to sit stopped at a stop light with such a small trip mileage test
It’s a regulation game Ram is playing. By keeping the GVWR at 10,000 it lets contractors get a heavy 15k trailer and stay under DOT/CDL requirements. Ford actually sells a 10,000 GVWR package that lowers their trucks payload- it’s the same truck with a different sticker.
TLDR: it helps businesses /contractors save money
Duramaaxxxx
U mean 2003 Truck better engine saves more gas then 2024 Thats progress boys? 😅
I drove the chevy high country, 3500 Dually, and the Crap Ram, hmm, chevy put steps on the front of bed on the rear bumper, I'm old need that. And comes with the side running board, Ram don't come shit, interior way better than ram, had all the options, 5th wheel package power fold mirrors heated, front camera, well I'm only going to tow a 18,000 lb, rv Fifthwheel, so don't care about the com apart, power,, and the HIGH COUNTRY, msrp, 93, grand, dealers sell em for 75 grand, ram stuck at over a hundred Grand, lol, screw that,,
Duramax...
Ram
How many Tractor trailers run V8 diesel engines?
Cummins will always be superior. I rest my case.
Back in the, Day.. CAT. 3406,, HMM, pump em up, they smoke any thing, , Then the Yamaha Detroit, lol, v 8 Deisel 2 stroke, lol, them things you knew what there were, they had the 671 super charger on em,, blower, they put on gas engines,, they scream, put so much smoke out,, why there all gone, but, they wind up so fast, drivers had to be on top of game to shift the gears, they beat most cars off the line lol,
Which one will make it to 300k with extremely low maintenance cost? Neither. Buy a 6.6 gasser.
Delete and both will be just fine. Gassers suck if you tow
@DanJ259 I tow 6 days a week. Just not the +15k that makes a diesel necessary.
@chadmiller6487 you get what you pay for man. Unless you pulling light stuff, diesel is the only way to go. You trolling lol
Sound don't make it go. Gmc weight more.
My 2020 weight is 9,125.
GM has nicer interiors
