Cruise! So happy you guys have still at it, living your best life, and you're getting to experience the home country of your wife. Staying in Asia was the right decision. I'm leaving Japan soon and wish I could have stayed longer and seen more and traveled...but COVID ruined my 3 year stay. Chang Mai is def. the digital nomad/cycling/vegan hub of the influencer world. I figured you're end up there, I just worry about the air quality during certain times of the year. Pro Tip: You gotta get Tune some better fitting race jerseys! She is not an Santic Medium! She needs them aero gains, and we enjoy the view. 😉 Yes....I am terrible. 😈 Love y'all. I'll ride Fuji-san this year in your honor.
When I drove around Ecuador this past summer with my mountainbike, there were stray dogs everywhere, and in the city many houses had dogs that would chase you on your bike sometimes. Driving over the Andes is very slow going with narrow 2 lane roads and slow diesel trucks going up the steep hills. But it was a very beautiful country with amazing places to ride your bike.
Hey, great to see long bikeriding trips again! Still not so great weather in Germany, so i'm a bit jealous :D And thanks for answering lot of questions!
I'll choose Japan over Thailand, mainly because of the long mountain climbs and cooler weather. I have been visited both countries (Nagoya and Bangkok), and for me, cycling with a colder weather+steep climbs are so enjoyable. Ride safe! Big fan from Philippines :D
Chiang Mai gets down to 13 degrees in the morning and up the big climbs ;) But yeah, the Fall and Spring cycling in Japan is really nice. Even the winter rides can be enjoyable with some good clothes.
You forgot to mention that the move to Thailand has reinvigorated your passion for cycling. During the last year in Japan, I know there was the pandemic too but, your passion for it kinda fell off and it came across. But the move has done wonders, there’s a new enthusiasm. I was worried about the move but you proved me wrong, it’s been the best thing for the channel too. And Kaze sponsoring you too, is a highlight to get you both on the road again. 🤙
Thanks! We'll talk about that a bit in the next video. The biggest obstacle was uncertainty and not knowing when we would need to or be able to move, so it was hard to be motivated to ride then. Really happy with things right now though :)
I see you both were on my favorite road behind the Alpine Golf course. That road is like 37km long and rarely see any cars on it. Liked the video, glad you are enjoying CM. Waiting for the smoke season video. :) Peace ✌
That looks amazing! Really enjoying the road cycling content. Having a good mix of flat and hilly routes is quite rare so definitely a reason to consider a cycling holiday in Chiang Mai.
I’m planning to bring my bike for a cycling holiday in Chiang Mai when this pandemic is over. This video was very enlightening regarding road safety and traffic in Chiang Mai. Thanks!
Wow! Thuong is making impressive progress with her mastery of English! Glad you both are enjoying the cycling there. Are there any good mountain bike trails near by? Thanks and stay safe out there!
I realize this video was shot a while ago but it is very interesting when you’re mentioning the road safety and pedestrians. Especially following what’s just happened in the news the other day. Stay safe folks🙏
Glad you are back on TH-cam, I was starting to think you guys left TH-cam, then I checked to see how you guys are doing through Instagram. I know moving and adjusting even within states are tough, talk less another country, but so glad you adjusting well. Thuong is happy and you as well, happy wife happy life, 😂, goes both ways, take care and stay safe. Thanks for taking us along with y’all🙏🏾
I live in Chiang Mai and you are very polite when describing the drivers here. I just got taken out by a driver opening a door in front of me. I get the titanium removed in 6 months and then back to riding. Thank you for the videos.
Glad to hear you recovered and are back riding. Of course drivers should check before opening doors, but most of the time they won't (this is the same in most countries). So best to always ride defensively. I will never ride close to parked cars if I can help it.
The weather looks so nice and warm there. I’m in Virginia (USA) and it’s very cold and snowy here. I can’t wait to get out and ride my bike. I can ride a stationary bike, but being outside is so much better. I like your new bikes. Enjoy your rides and stay safe.
Hi Cruise & Thuong - Great to see you enjoying CM! I recommend _daytime_ use of a _strong_ rear blinky light for safety. When you said "bike" did you mean "scooter"? It's confusing if not distinguished.
@@TwoWheelCruise I hope you'll use them in the daytime. It's sounds odd, but lights of sufficient output greatly improve your being seen & _avoided_ by motorists. There are studies, including a major one that Trek commissioned by Clemson University which explain the efficacy of flashing DRLs.
So far to me it looks like some good riding. Especially the countryside roads with the lack of traffic. The city roads look a little hectic and chaotic with the amount of traffic, especially the scooter traffic.
Sun, warm, green nature, fine road and no cars.. checking weather here Finland.. Storm wind, snow blizzard (30+cm new snow today) and visibility in white mesh 500 meters. Winter now at turning point, ”just” a couple months to go.. Yep, Your Thai cycling videos looks extra special now……..
What a beautiful landscape to ride in ! The hideous Bangkok traffic seems a million miles away. Overall, you both sound pretty content with your current life and very much enjoying training for an even better fitness level. Lovely to hear Thuong’s getting more confident in English, this is bound to bring you even closer. About cycling safety, I think wherever you cycle in the world, you need to constantly be extremely cautious on almost any road. Cycling is wonderful, but it s also dangerous and unpredictable.
Wow thats a really beautiful route! I think cycling in Japan is quite convenient, but thats until I saw how many street stores you guys often cycle past in some of your earlier rides. I also agree with Thuong, the bad side to that, the smells make people hungry on rides 😅
Hi Cruise and Thuong! Amazing place 😍 Have You tried the sport drink powder or tabs?(SiS, High5 for example) Really helpful especially for longer rides and fits perfectly in the jersey’s pockets 😉
One thing everyone driving/riding in Thailand should keep in mind is that unfortunately drunk driving is still extremely common in there, especially at night time when people head home from bars.
Nice video, enjoyed hearing your thoughts on riding in Japan vs Thailand! Are there many cycling events (races, centuries, fondos, etc.) in Thailand? I lived in Osaka for a few years, used to pass by the Shimano factory on the way to work. There was ONE criterium a year and that was it for amateur racing unless you traveled.
I never would have thought of Japan as a cycling paradise, after spending some time there, and especially not after watching your vids. Tho it looks pretty safe, everything, including the bike paths, seems so . . . constricted, constrained. Chang Mai looks great.
Practically all mom and pop stores even in remote areas they have sport drink (Sponsor in 200cc bottle for 10 baht). Sponsor was the Thai-owned original sport drink debuted about 30 years ago after the successful launch of Kathing Daeng (Red Bull is international brand) about 50 years ago. Sponsor and Kathing Daeng energy drink is still 10 baht since its launch decades ago. I should know because I have biked in all regions of Thailand: North, Northeast, Central Plain, East, West and South down to Phuket over the last 22 years. Even in small village in remote area, you can find energy drink Kahthing Daeng and M150 as well as Sponsor available in refrigerated box.
@@TwoWheelCruise I don't think it is carbonated. It is the same as mineral salt in small satchel costing 5 baht that you can buy from any pharmacy to cure diarrhea. If you mix mineral salt (glucose+salt), the taste is very similar to sponsor. When I have diarrhea I just buy Sponsor to replenish liquid and salt in my body.
I have cycled thousands of kms in Thailand and yes you make some good points... Food and cold water everywhere and you can do very long 6 to 7 hours unsupported rides ... and I agree with Thunong, be careful of the street dogs, I once had a crash because of a dog chasing me and crossing in front me .. And then drivers in Thailand are notoriously bad... often a complete disregard for traffic rules and the hordes of motorcyclists in the cities and bigger towns are very dangerous! An interesting statistic is you may like to know is that Thailand is most of the time ranked as the second worse country in the WORLD when it comes to road fatalities !!!!!!
nice video! thanks for sharing your route too I might copy your route one day when I head up to Changmai. Been following you folks even before you guys started dating. BTW, what bike comp are you using? looks sleek.
Thanks I have been enjoying watching your entry to Thailand. As you say the hills in Thailand can be brutal 😉 I think it is because as you noticed in Thailand they never design switchbacks into the climbs instead just going ever up & over 🤣 Good Luck on your new life in Thailand!
My wife and I biked 3 days in Bangkok and 10 days in Chiang Rai some 10 years ago and loved it and especially the people. So damn friendly. Reminiscing with your videos. Can you get Gatorade powder? I took my own with me at the time.
Try Doi Inthanon coming up soon average 6.9% going 39 kilometers. Nice climb, done it twice and is painful thinking about it. I reside in Phrae, Province. Done Doi Suthep a few times nice warm up for Doi Inthanon. Safe Cycling!
when i was living in kyoto about 10 years ago my bike got me anywhere i want to go, worst scenario was it too dark or heavy rain and i was in another city far from home, i can just put my bike in a bag ( its more like a bike cover, made from thin plastic sheet) and took a train home, never had the need of a car there. since last year that i'm move to chiangmai, with the pollution, sun, and weather overall make a grocery run or short cafe ride something i'm not looking forward to and try to avoid. i've got myself a car now, bike commuting isn't working here. i'm now ride my bike only for training in late afternoon or early in the morning when the weather is a bit softer on me. the temperature in winter can be quite extreme too where i live ( foot of the mountain near mae rim area), it can be as low as 6 degree c before sunrise and shoot up to 32 degree at 11( according to me wahoo)
I might add, be careful going downhill on rides like Doi Suthep. Cars will always try to overtake and then hit their brakes as they approach the curves, often causing problems for cyclists.
I honestly think both countries are great when it comes to cycling. Although I'm from the Philippines, the issues pointed out with cycling in Thailand are somewhat comparable to cycling here in the Philippines. Traffic here in my country is a nuisance, especially during Rush Hour in the cities. You could barely even go through the road due to the traffic. Stray Dogs and Cats are also common as well as they are in every corner of the city. There are even motorists who are sometimes aggressive towards cyclists and at times, do not even follow the traffic light. So it's really a hassle sometimes here. Our government is doing its best to ensure the safety of our cyclists on the road and safer spaces. I would say that cycling in the provinces is much better compared to the city. You could even look at the breathtaking views of Mother Nature, and have some snacks while on the road. Overall, I would love to go cycling in both Thailand and Japan in the future should restrictions be lifted. Hope you're having a great time there in Chiang Mai. It's really a nice place to cycle.
For me it is going to be Japan. Cycling experience in Thailand varied from place to place. Chiang Mai is an amazing place for cycling but for me who grew up in Bangkok, cycling there is like begging to get hit by an irresponsible driver. One of the reason many cyclists go cycling on famous route because there aren't many other safe road anywhere else. And then there will be a season where air pollution got really bad where it is very painful to walk outside without pollution mask. But I got to agree that Thailand has much better flat course and the geography allow those course to exist. If i am going to rate which countries is better for cycling overall then Japan win by a long shot but some place like Chiang Mai is a better place for cycling than many city in Japan. I am sorry if I am too negative sometimes. 🙏
Those are good points! Overall, cycling in Japan is pretty consistent no matter where you go and the city riding is much safer than Thailand. The riding here in Thailand is very different depending on where you are, it's like night and day between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. If I lived in Bangkok, I probably would only ever ride at Sky Lane 😂
Cycling paradise? From what I’ve seen in this video, I think you are right. What a great ride, with a bonus of few cars. I’m with Thoung, I think I would prefer less mountainous rides 😊. By the way, give Thoung a huge 👍 on her English skills. She has really improved!! I had no idea that they slaughter stray dogs and cats in Japan. That is so cruel. Perhaps Thailand has a problem with strays, but killing them is NOT the answer. Every living creature has a right to life. One reason I’m a vegetarian. Sorry Thuong, please don’t take that wrong. It’s a matter of personal choice. Cruise, your cycling computer. I like the set up on your bike. What are you using, and also the mount you are using on your bike. You mentioned that you are going to do a vid on it, but I’m Impatient 😂😂. Thanks, and also thanks for a great video. Im saving this vid for when I’m on my spin bike. Take care.
I agree that Thuong has improved greatly in both her English language skills and speaking confidence. She should feel proud of herself as she's also studying Thai at the same time!
Thanks! She's studying hard with her Thai and English and piano every day! Thailand is very friendly towards animals in general and there are A LOT of vegetarians here. I've convinced Thuong to eat more vegetarian food lately since there are good options here. Many people in Japan don't even know that stray animals are slaughtered, but Japan is really bad with animal rights in general. These are new computers, we'll make a video about them very soon.
Looks like a bicycle trail in spots, road seem not wide in spots, but a nice road non the least. Perhaps the gov should sponsor pedestrian safety rules? That would be a great imitative to start, and would protect many...
I really love Thailand, I lived there for five years until the pandemic. I am going to give you another negative about Thailand and Chaing Mai in particular. Next month they will start the burning season, happens every year about March I think, it will not be very pleasant for any outdoor activity especially cycling.
I would feel right at home riding in Chiangmai, I ride everyday in Los Angeles and there’s lots of dangerous drivers here so you need to be very vigilant all the time, not to mention the thousands of small potholes and cracks. I guess the pedestrian crossing lights in Chiangmai would rather say “Run instead of walk” Lol Great ride..one question, my girlfriend was wondering the type of pedals Thoung is currently using, it seems like she gets in/out rather easy, she hates the ones I got her…
It's an interesting discussion. Letting those animals in the wild, getting sick and maybe also in hunger compared to free them from their pain. I don't know what's better.
Growing up rural, it wasn’t til I moved to the city did I discover urban riding. Japan looks great for that, however… the police there would beat you down for riding like a messenger 😬.
@@TwoWheelCruise i would assume to if I was from elsewhere but it takes them years to fix our asphalts. A lot of roads are too narrow and our bike paths is full of homeless litter. This is Oahu, Hawaii to be specific.
35'c is very hot for me, but it'll get hotter yet in CM. Is it easy to adjust and do you wear anything different compared to Japan for hot sun cycling?
I'm a little curious of how Thuong feels on the bike now compared to before she had her bikefit. Dos she feel any difference, good, bad. More power, less power. problems that she didn't even knew she hade and stuff like that.
@@TwoWheelCruise mimic looks good, but i think she needs a cutout saddle. But let hope it works out. And i prefer Thailand to Japan cycling videos. All those barriers you encountered made me want to stop watching haha, got me so angry
Don’t forget that most saddle problems are not caused by the saddle but by other things such as cleat position and saddle height. Worth watching bike fit James’s videos on the Francis Cade TH-cam channel!
You dont need to pass a test to get a license, there are no drink drive laws or they are never enforced so it can be dangerous. Stick to the quieter roads. And it is madness at Singkran in April, they are all pissed
@@TwoWheelCruise Ok, I just said, I remember this road along the little canal, ends at that Golf sign on the left side. A quiet 25km road. And due to the sports drinks, you can buy in every little grocery in the cointryside these "Sponsor" drinks for just 10 Baht. A yellow drink with electrolytes. To find in the fridge. And also coconut nectar in the fridge for 20 Baht. Not every store has it. But great supersweet stuff in a brown glass bottle with a crown cap. Also 7eleven has it often, not every store. I wanted to post a pic of it, but that link probably killed my post 😄😁
@@TwoWheelCruise Then try the coconut nectar. I would like to send a pic of it, if it is possible. A brown glass bottle with thai letters only and a big coconut on the bottle sticker. So yummy. 100% coconut nectar the write on the bottle.
Tasmania is a not good place to ride , I have a near miss almost every month ; Motorists here treat cyclists with contempt , despite the laws and the heavy fines for motorists who fail to comply !

Country roads are the best!
This looks like a great route to ride. Love the scenery and lack of cars.
Lots of great routes here
Great that you guys are Thailand. How do you alleviate foot discomfort on longer rides?
Might need to adjust your cleats or change pedal systems
ยอดเยี่ยม
Have you though of making a Two wheel cruise Strava club for your Followers to join Michigan just wondering
Might be a good idea
Korea has some very nice dedicated trails for cyclist.
Yep, great bike paths there.
@@TwoWheelCruise I am so jealous of them, here in Georgia not so much...
Hey cruise may I ask what cycling computer ur using
We'll be making a video about this soon ;)
it seems like the road was closed just for you and Thuong :)
All the restaurants were closed too since it was new years day 😅
For me it is going to be Japan.
If I lived in Bangkok, I probably would only ever ride at Sky Lane 😂
did you guys buy some new road bikes?
We introduced them a few videos back
When are you going to review the new cycling computers you and Thuong is using?😁
Hopefully soon! We wanted to get a full month of testing in first ;)
@@TwoWheelCruise looking forward to it! 😄
Any plans to do the Mae Hon Son loop?
Suggestion, here in Thailand buy a water and an electrolyte powder mix at the 7 or family, affordable, tasty and gives you the electrolyte you need.
Thanks! We've started using these packs :)
@@TwoWheelCruise the Orange flavor ones are the best! Only 5 baht too!
Looks like a bicycle trail in spots, road seem not wide in spots, but a nice road non the least. Perhaps the gov should sponsor pedestrian safety rules? That would be a great imitative to start, and would protect many...
They definitely need to do something to improve pedestrian safety.
It's good to hear Thuong contributing in English now that she's becoming proficient in the language.
She’s getting more and more confident.
Philippines is the cycling capital of asia now. Soon we will produce the likes of contador, indurain barrowman etc
I really love Thailand, I lived there for five years until the pandemic. I am going to give you another negative about Thailand and Chaing Mai in particular. Next month they will start the burning season, happens every year about March I think, it will not be very pleasant for any outdoor activity especially cycling.
Not looking forward to it haha
I would feel right at home riding in Chiangmai, I ride everyday in Los Angeles and there’s lots of dangerous drivers here so you need to be very vigilant all the time, not to mention the thousands of small potholes and cracks. I guess the pedestrian crossing lights in Chiangmai would rather say “Run instead of walk” Lol
Great ride..one question, my girlfriend was wondering the type of pedals Thoung is currently using, it seems like she gets in/out rather easy, she hates the ones I got her…
She's using MTB spd pedals. Probably the best option unless you're racing, easy to clip in/out and walk around in.
@@TwoWheelCruise great, thank you 🙏🏼
Wish you both Well ,,, :-)
Thanks! :)
What brand are the phone mounts on the handlebars?
This is just a bike computer mount. We'll be doing a review for this computer soon.
If roads are not as good as I in Japan. Will it be easier to instal a suspension seat post to take the shocks?
No need for suspension seatpost. If you want a cushiony ride, put on some 32 slicks
How long you gonna be in Thailand? Do you have any plan back to Bangkok ?
Not sure, no plans on going back to Bangkok.
It's an interesting discussion. Letting those animals in the wild, getting sick and maybe also in hunger compared to free them from their pain. I don't know what's better.
Surely some balance in between. There are lots of shelters and people caring for them here
Growing up rural, it wasn’t til I moved to the city did I discover urban riding. Japan looks great for that, however… the police there would beat you down for riding like a messenger 😬.
Urban riding is great in Japan
IM here in Hawaii, worst roads and mountains to bike on but yeah, no choice haha.
I would've assumed the roads would be nicer there, that's too bad :(
@@TwoWheelCruise i would assume to if I was from elsewhere but it takes them years to fix our asphalts. A lot of roads are too narrow and our bike paths is full of homeless litter. This is Oahu, Hawaii to be specific.
i want to go there ! 🇹🇭 🚴🏻
I prever Chiang Mai
where is the winter?
This is the winter here
How cats can be dangerous?
"If we miss anything, let us know..." Well, you miss the poop on the road, just after you said that LOL Minute: 25:29
😂😂😂 There's a road here that Thuong calls "poop road" because of all the animal droppings
35'c is very hot for me, but it'll get hotter yet in CM. Is it easy to adjust and do you wear anything different compared to Japan for hot sun cycling?
Better to start earlier. Not much humidity here which is great
How the new bikes? Anything you dislike about them?
They’re great! Only downside is a bit heavy on the climbs
I'm a little curious of how Thuong feels on the bike now compared to before she had her bikefit. Dos she feel any difference, good, bad. More power, less power. problems that she didn't even knew she hade and stuff like that.
She's pretty comfy on the bike now minus the saddle. We're still working on that.
@@TwoWheelCruise specilized power saddles. Or if you can find/afford power mirror. The 3D printed one
New one just arrived, we're gonna try this one for a while. If it doesn't work, we'll try specialized mimic next
I think you guys should also practice more on your sprints just in case a pack of dogs will chase you
Working on it :)
2021?
New Year’s Day
Those aren't mountains. They are hills.
You dont need to pass a test to get a license, there are no drink drive laws or they are never enforced so it can be dangerous. Stick to the quieter roads. And it is madness at Singkran in April, they are all pissed
The best road bike of KAZE
They're great :)
Is my comment in the spam folder because of a link? 🧐
I didn't see anything in the spam folder. Maybe try posting it again?
Thanks for the tips! I'll have to try those drinks. I've been hesitant with some of the Thai "energy" drinks since I'm not sure what's inside.
Sorry to hear that :(
in Bangkok, cars drivers don't give any respect to bicycle riders at all, similar to Vietnam but a lot worse. Pavement quality is not that good either
why do you dress like GCN?
Because we use the colors red and black? 😂
@@TwoWheelCruise yea, might be you shall change the design a little bit...too gcnish atm
