    Are you a round or octagonal violin bow person?

      Well, I only have round bows so far, and I definitely prefer the round version out of these two (came to the exact same conclusion as you did after the first examples) - so I guess that settles that. :-D Not sure what's actually going on here, but based on physics, an octagonal bow should be stiffer than an otherwise identical round bow with the same section area, which suggests they should have higher resonant frequencies, and thus, a brighter tone.

      I prefer a round bow on violin and viola, but that said, a good octagonal bow will beat out bad round bow, and any bow with bad hair is a loser, just as any instrument with bad strings would also be a problem!

    I’m 53 just started playing the violin and looking at your videos. I have 9 bows and there all beautiful and different sounds. I both from A professional bow maker and Fiddlershop. From Miami Florida.

    I have an octagonal bow and a round bow(s) (actually, quite a few more than one round bow) and do prefer the round bow(s) and really only bought the octagonal bow to compare the two types. The octagonal bow cost me around $700 U.S. and I'm thinking of just selling it. My favourite round Pernambuco bow is an A. Vigneron bow which cost me just over $4,500.00 U.S.
    I also don't like carbon fibre bows, I prefer the Pernambuco bows but maybe, at 58, I'm just at that cusp of being a tad 'old fashioned' in my thinking and acting. I'm open to new things (really, I am) that 'are improvements' but don't take to them just for the sake of them being a 'new thing'. For now, I'll be sticking to round, Pernambuco bows, at least for the foreseeable future.

    I know it's been hard on all of us in this social distancing and some of us may have resorted to drinking, but that cameraman is out of control.
    Round! ⭕️

    I play a Schumann Hybrid bow. The frog is Octagonal above the frog is round to the tip. It’s carbon-fibre. Is only like carbon fibre as it’s weather friendly and consistent weight

    I used round bow for my first violin, and then I sale it. Bought a new violin and octagonal bow. I think it's easier to play in round bow, probably I will buy round bow again..

    Can you make a review on Arcus P7 with traditional frog vs Arcus P7 with Galliane frog (hair ribbon angled 15 degrees) invented by Benoit Rolland?

      Thanks for your suggestion!

      @@violinlounge Mr. Musing told me that he tried one and it was not his cup of tea. Only one Arcus bow was sold with Galliane frog nowadays, and it was recently re fitted to the traditional frog. So they still have 2 P7 with Galliane frog in stock.

    If round Bows give more stability, what advantages do octagonal Bows have?

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are in general a bit stiffer, jump easily and very agile. Of course it's personal preference.

    • @MoongladeShika
      @MoongladeShika ปีที่แล้ว

      @@violinlounge yes I agree! Oct is agile, light, great for spicc, and detache, however can be unstable for certain pieces/techniques. Loved this video, thank you!

    I like the look of octagonal bows better. I have one octagonal bow (of 4) and I like the sound from it best of all my bows but it ia also the heaviest and is heavier at the tip so it's harder to play... I want to find an antique violin I an afford some day and then I will look for a bow that works well with it.

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I'm a round bow person, but definitely prefer the looks of octagonal!

    How do you expect the viewer/listener to put faith in the sound quality of this video if you sound so trebly in the introduction?
