Recommernd rotating the bar forward a bit to level out the bar ends. You won't really use the horns as Hoods much anyway and the bars more level is more stable and comfortable.

Have the Amazon equivalent on my 29er. Kept the levers on the extension piece and positioned them as far up as possible. Added pieces of foam to the 'hoods' before wrapping. Very comfortable riding the hoods or drops and can get access to brakes, gears and dropper from both positions👌

Thanks for a most informative review G. Have been wondering about these for ages and thanks to your helpful vid - I shall certainly not be going for it after all - mainly due to what you say about the discomfort of grip around the "hoods".

Thanks for this vid! Where did u finally decide to orient your brakes/shifter? If you want to utilize the 'horns' to rest your hands, add small extensions readily available and wrap it all up.

Great review exactly what I needed. Won't be going for these. Was considering them for a 26" 90's MTB rebuild. Think I'll stick to a Sonder Confuscious bar at a third of the price. I thought they were expensive from the get go for what they are but do understand why Surly stuff isn't cheap. Thanks for the guidance.

This type of handlebar is very interesting, useful for not having to replace the brake/gear controls and carry out tests. I'm about to buy it but how do you adjust the width? I currently have a flatbar mounted on a '90s steel MTB that I want to turn into a multi-purpose "Slowrider" for gravel, daily use and short-range trips. originally the flatbar was 600mm, now a 660mm is mounted, the original criteria of the frame date back to the 80s. I'm thinking about this type of handlebar but I have 3 sizes available to buy, I think I'll avoid a larger width, but I don't know whether to orient myself as if it were a dropbar and therefore the smaller size having a measurement taken between the two low welds equal to 43-44 cm as my shoulder width, or orient myself on the average width of 47 cm between the welds and 60 cm at the external ends. how did you find your way? Thank you

If you get these bars up high enough up, as you should for an bike ridden offroad, the hooks position offers more control and safety. Plain and simple.
The hoods position only offers compromised comfort. Little else. Most roadies like it because their bikes aren't set up right or they ride the wrong bike.
In the hooks, you have best leverage, best weight distribution over both wheels. In the hooks your center of gravity is lower and you have best leverage on the brake levers. In the hooks you have the best natural and secure grip on the h'bars. On rough terrain, your hands can be bounced off the bars during a moment of inattention.
Why even use h'bars with hooks if you rarely use them? For vanity's sake? Just cut em off, save weight or use bullhorns.
@@WildlandExplorer Im diggin my Corners so far. Ive tried out at least a dozen wide gravel bars over the years. Im converting most of my bikes to them. Maybe even my fully soon. On MTBs , brakes are the big issue with drop bars and I despise brifters with a passion. I wont use them if theyre free. Ive got some Dura Ace brifters for sale. They were free take offs from an AXS build. People seem to have money to burn around here.🤑
Im even using '80s vintage Special👀Ed (nitto) dirt drops on my '70s vintage Eisentraut all road rig.
So far my favorites are 56cm Ritchey Venturemax, 48 cm Nitto Noodles (rando bike) and most recently Surly Corner bars (over 60cm wide I think) on my 26" Rock Lobster hardtail. On this bikepackish rig I use a 20+ year old 1st gen XT hydro in front brake (again free) and XTR V brakes in the rear with very old, but practically unworn ceramic coated rims. These rims offer almost as much power as discs in the rear. Old school Ceramic rims are a wicked killer value! They show almost no wear after over 20 years of rough abuse!
I like bars with a bit of backsweep on the tops, and a small amount of flare to the hooks and a relatively small drop.
The Corner bars allow the use of MTB controls and brakes. I dont like road hydros much at all, except they're job security as a shop mechanic! 🤑🤑
The Corner bars look a little funky, but I never look at my bike while riding.😁
Long pull Avid BB7s with long pull road levers or v brake mtb levers have served just fine since the 90s. With 180mm rotors and compressionless housing Ive got enough power to lock the wheels with one finger easily. It problem helps lots that Im fiddling with brakes practically daily. I own several old bikes with rim brakes, either Vs, cantis, dual pivots, '80s Campy Record 'speed modulators', ancient center pulls and more.
I like to say "Its the RIDER, not the freakin bike"

great video.... looks like you need the "drops" to be in your all day position and the tops for your really upright taking a break spot. I have a frame thats a bit short and an uncut rigid form so thinking this could be an easy tweak to make something different mix things up a bit. Not that it would matter but I do wish it was aluminum, the bike its going on is really light weight (and light weight looking) steel bars may feel out of place LOL )

I considered installing Sora components on my rigid 9-speed mountain bike, which I use as a flat bar gravel bike, but when you factor in the price of shifters, derailleurs, brakes, bar, maybe a new stem, and new cables, this is not an insignificant amount of money, even when using Sora components. Enter the corner bar-an interesting option. I'm just not sure I'd gain much when compared to the flat bar with bar ends I currently have on the bike. I may just drop the stem by moving a couple spacers above the bar, and call it good. The other option is a drop bar, bar end shifters, and the Tektro brake levers which are compatible with mountain, cable actuated brakes.
Solely rode mtb until last month, first thing I did on my grave bike was put my hands on the hoods!
once you've tried the hoods you can't go back....to no hoods...🤔
@@ukgravelco I think that the thing for me is I feel much more natural on the hoods than in the drops. And as you say hands flat of the top where you can't reach the brakes is just dicey.
I know they are not popular, but I would never own a flat-bar bike without installing bar ends! I love the additional hand position, which is similar to riding in the hoods.
Hi any chance you fancy a pair of 50cm corner bars in exchange for your 46cm . I was lucky enough to get a set of 50cm bars but have realised I need the 46cm instead. No uk stock of either size until June so need to source a set of 46cm if I can before that as I have no other bars and training for chase the sun in June for charity ride 🤗
Interesting that at that time you estimated a width of 46 because in the videos I only found very wide handlebars. I'm evaluating it and I have to choose between a width (between the two welds) of 43cm equal to the width of my shoulders, or 47cm which is the intermediate measurement of the model found on Aliexpress. In your opinion, how should I go about this type of handlebar?
i came to the conclusion that the corner bars cost the same amount of money as the cheapest brifters+drop bar i can buy so ill be getting them
There is a Chinese knock off of this bar. I got one because it's made of aluminum with a 31.8mm center bulge. I had too many incidences of the bar slipping in the stem with the steel bar and shims, steel is slippery, aluminum is not. I also have a Cowchipper on another bike and despite having to run road levers I like it much more than the Corner Bar. I wish there was a 22.2mm Cowchipper. I 'm considering filing out MTB levers to fit a Cowchipper.

They are a very interesting idea, but they're too heavy, too wide, and too expensive. Narrower and made of aluminum instead of steel would be interesting.

This gravel bike hype is sooo annoying .
Three guys go for a Gravel ride on a combination of asphalt , concrete , dirt , dirt and stones and compacted stone roads .
One guy is riding a road bike , one is riding an MTB and one is riding a "gravel bike ".
The road bike guy is pissing and moaning about the rough conditions , The gravel bike guy is doing ok except for the dirt and rock trails and the MTB guy is just going for a ride , but only the Gravel bike rider is actually gravel riding , the other two are doing something else .
The entire gravel bike thing is absurd.
