- A route as beautiful as it is difficult, Blackbeard’s Tears looms over the northern California coast. First freed by Ethan Pringle and graded 5.14c, this traditional crack climb awaited a second suitor for seven years until BD athlete Connor Herson racked up for the send in late August 2023. Connor was joined by teammate Carlo Traversi, who filmed and edited this gorgeous footage of Connor making the second ascent.
So good to see some video of this. Would love to try one day. Amazing work Connor, and of course Ethan for putting this one up 💪
Pete for the flash !!!
Very sure you will!
I don’t think I’ve seen someone climb at this grade with such abandon. Really amazing to see.
Wow, that was incredible! Never realized how much of a King Line that route was… really cool to finally see some footage of this beast
Are you hopping on this eventually?
i couldn't appreciate how overhung the route is until the drone pulled back. WOW!
Incredible!
Pringle Tribute 1:30
Nice to see a pro climber actually wearing a helmet
My thoughts exactly.
Well, how else could he show off more Black Diamond gear? 😂
Great route man good work! I'd love to have a go at that one day. I'd be up and down like a yo-yo but I'd definitely have fun! 😊
so dope sheesh
This rules.
That bat hang was ungodly
😍
Would love to see this without the music, kinda makes it worse for me.
Foot jamming with solutions?
Sick video! Stop with the awful music.
I climbed at the Promentory a few years ago and Blackbeard was there silently towering over everything. The constant waves crashing and mist give the place a kind of dreamy feel. That shot at 0:30 looking up at the route is just what it was like. Super tall, imposing, thin... The locals told me Pringle had climbed it a few years back which blew my mind, and there were no second ascents. This route stuck with me for some reason, it just looked so impossible, but amazingly epic. Hats off to Captain Herson for conquering Blackbeard.
Connor is the most inspiring young climber out there at the moment. Great ethics and super strong in many disciplines! I wish there was a longer video with some commentary about the route
Yes, would really love to hear some commentary on this one. Particularly about the gear beta. Looks like there were several sections where he's placing some very small gear in order to keep the bigger spots open for his hands/feet. Would be very interesting to hear about how he though through the tradeoffs.
@@Olopnogitron me three, was thinking the same, that would be very nice to have the commentary in off rather than the music.
Wow the movement was absolutely insane on that thing, and the video showcased this perfectly. Well done!
sickest bathang
Can't really beat a bathang from a double foot jam. What a sick route!
Connor is such an under rated climber!! He’s putting down the hardest trad lines and seems to get little coverage. Truly talented
Excelent climbing and excelent movie. All climbing videos should look like this. Pure climbing, without pointless waste of time on scenes of driving a car, eating a pizza and partner confessions. Great job Connor, great job BD!
I'm sure Connor has taken more big whippers onto gear in his short life than I ever will in mine. But, yikes, that 0.2 Z4 at the 1:16 mark sure looks awfully tipped out!
Would've been a perfect spot for a black totem, though I guess that wouldn't have gone over well in this video :)
Good shit Connor. Surprised it took this long for a second ascent, but of course it was gonna be Connor. Can't wait to see what he does next!
It's gotta be hard if Carlo hasn't done it yet
Damn. It doesn't get a lot tougher than this. He's climbing it like a sport route, but having to do big moves into jams, place tiny gear, and invert more than once. Amazing work Connor, and Ethan for the FA.
I like the helmet use.
Holy crap, a pro placing a wire!!
And what a climb 👊
roof crux goes crazy
Striking line, well done Ethan & Connor! 💪
I remember watching this kid climb at the local gym in Sunnyvale. They had to set 5.14s for him. A few months later I read about him freeing the Nose. Crazy good climber!
Does footage exist of ethan pringle sending this?
Uncut plzzzzzzz
Nice climbing, nice line, nice edit!
Conor quickly running out of hard trad lines to send. Prolific!!!
Wow absolutely insane! Would love to see raw send footage
The badass young gun! Great job, Connor!
Dang you don't see how steep that is until the end.
Dope and what a beautiful crag too!
One of the most impressive routes I’ve seen, wow
I'm envious. I wish we had a line like that around here.
This guy just hung on a foot jam 🤯
Less goddamn music video style editing, less slo-mo intro, more camera stabilisation and more detailed footage of an amazing looking route, please.
Shut up, you big internet baby
Normally I'd be with you, but that's a banger nonetheless
Let's hope this is just the trailer for the longer non-flashy version.
Badass
So gooood!!!!!
This is utterly sick
amaaaazing !!!!
Hell yeah
Badass
The summit, there is a bolt ?
