The elusive 3000 ft/s 😁. Massively enjoyed the video though, thx!
As per the calcs I shared last time, you should have another 1.5 grain on the H4831 before even hitting spec pressure. But that won’t get you there.
The IMR 7828 should be your best hope, unless you can get your hands on the Vihtavouri

Ya that’s the only problem with loading the WSM’s hot they only come in 23” barrels from most manufactures do you have to replace the barrel if you want anything longer otherwise you will see your powder flaming out the barrel with no benefit. There is a lot of powders that cross over to match another powder but you will still have to get a faster twist barrel for the heavier bullets anyway from what I have found in my short 60+ years of reloading 😳

I just got 2929fps with my 6.8 western (24”) with 175gr STGK and H1000. I can let you know what I get with the 165 with H4831SC soon. How is your powder capacity in your 270WSM when you seat these longer bullets? Maybe it’s reducing how much powder you can fit when compared to the 6.8 western neck design which allows the bullet to be seated further out to assist in capacity.

I just looked quickly on the Hodgdon website and they list Magpro as one of the fastest for the 160 Nosler Part. It's only a little faster than what you get with the 165 so I think you've reached as fast as you can safely. All the other powders they list are slower. Winchester StaBALL HD lists 3050 as the top speed for the 160 Nosler partition so you might be able to get 50 fps more than with MagPro.

I'ts been interesting watching your results with this. I know that it's hard finding brass for the 270 WSM and components are not cheap. But there is one powder definitely worth trying if you were to entertain trying anything else and that is Vihtavuori N570. I saw on the Long Range Hunting forum where a guy used 70.5 grains with the Berger 170 EOL and got 2967 from a 24 inch barrel in a 270WSM, and that charge weight resulted in a 103% case fill. If you used a hotter primer like the fed 215 or wlrm with that powder I believe you could reach 3000 with that ABLR - might have to bump it up to 71 grains. The good part about using a slower burning powder like this is you probably won't get excessive pressure. I have read several accounts of people using N570 in the 7SAUM with heavy bullets and getting good results, and the 270 WSM holds a fair bit more powder than that. Plus, you can actually buy N570 right now. It's usually harder to find but there are several places I've checked recently that had it in stock.

I am currently shooting the 165s in a custom 270win with a 1:8 twist 27in barrel, I'm using 49.5gr of norma 204 and getting just under 2800fps. I just picked up some H1000 to try, I don't expect to hit 3k but hope to get close. Curious if your chronograph corrects velocity based on bullet weight and distance to the muzzle? Mine corrects 7-11 fps depending on bullet caliber and weight. Its not much but I use the Caldwell about 12 feet away from my bench (10 feet was too close, my fire breathing 26”barrel of my 6.8 Western was blowing my light shades off 💨). Example- using my 1-10 twist 270 Winchester 22” barrel with 170 grain Winchester power points- 3 shot measured average was 3026, but calculated average was 3036 fps. Did You Ever Try To "Max Out" Your 30-06 With the 168 Grain Nosler ABLR's and Compare It to the 270 WSM Shooting Those 165 Grain Nosler ABLR's? That Would Be a Good Video! 👍😃

Oh yeah! I’ve played with 165 ABLR’s in 270 WSM and 270Win. Across the street is a small airport with an elevation of 83 ft. Shooting range is a good 20 ft lower, and I’ve yet to get a 165 ABLR to stabilize. Now it will in my 6.8 Western, but it has a 1:8 twist. I’ve also done it at different temps, and it didn’t matter.

I enjoy learning from your experiments, but my takeaway so far is if you want to shoot the heavy 277 bullets: The 6.8 western is the easy button.

    • @edwardabrams4972
      @edwardabrams4972 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

The 6.8 is a dead horse and is never going to get any more popular then it is right now. Winchester which also owns Browning is not pushing that cartridge and Hornaday Wouk’s love for it to disappear so the PRC’s advance even more and they are going to push all their efforts for that to happen😳 o I forgot that Winchester and Browning are not hardly any guns in 6.8 so do the math and change the cartridge when the barrel goes out😢

@@edwardabrams4972 time is a fickle entity. The 300 prc was all the rage when released. It hits the same targets at nearly the same distances as the Lapua for l half the ammo cost. Albeit less energy, then the 7 prc is announced and by the numbers stomps all over the 300 prc in terms of trajectory. Then the 7 prc’s chronograph results come back as disappointing as my pto request during Christmas. I agree the 6.8 will fall to the wayside with some very loyal followers and the prc’s will continue succeeding. But I still believe the 6.8 western to be one of the best short action cartridges of its type. I hope it sticks around. Though I’m waiting for the 25’s to make a comeback.

The 270 wsm is a great cartridge but was never pushed by Winchester or Browning to manufacture more guns and ammo so it’s just slowly becoming a handloaded only cartridge. You would be better off buying a 270 win with a faster twist barrel and a longer throat🙌 just my two cents of 60+ years of hand loading and collecting rifles

Ramshot LRT. Re22, Staball HD, Retumbo. Curiously, I'm testing two Tikka 7mags and H1000 didn't produce near the velocity I anticipated with 140 Barnes TSX or 150 TTSX bullets in either rifle. Retumbo, Magnum, Re22, Staball HD are doing well. H1000 is an odd powder but generally speaking there's nothing I use it in appropriately where I can't get outstanding accuracy, SD and ES numbers. Thus, I use it a lot and kill a pile of 4 leggers with it in my loads. For 2 decades I was essentially a speedster. I'd ONLY consider the fastest I could get in whatever I was loading. Then realized that lobbing bullets like ballistic tips about as fast as a softball pitcher underhanding a ball killed game just fine way past 400 yards as long as it was an accurate load. But then when I try Barnes bullets I want that top speed.
The two 7mags are IDENTICAL except for the stock. Both blue actions, blue barrels, one is a "lite" and the other is a "hunter" so the latter has the walnut stock and the Lite had the black polymer stock. However, the two different barrels are a stark contrast on speed and I verified this with factory Barnes 139 LRX ammo with 2 different LOT numbers. In both cases, the Lite shoots about 100 fps faster. So what that means is you just may have a slow barrel on your 270WSM while someone else with the identical rifle may have an even slower barrel or faster.
My testing in the Lite Tikka T3x 7mag, 150 TTSX, new Nos brass, Fed215M primer:
    Retumbo Reloder 22 Staball HD
    70.0g - 3008.2 fps 66.0g - 3038.6 72.0g - 2947.2
    71.0g - 3086.7 66.5g - 3059.3 73.0g - 3003.1 (stopped)
    72.0g - 3111.1 67.0g - 3098.3
    72.5g - 3102.4 67.5g - 3135.1 (no pressure)
    73.0g - 3134.6
    73.5g - 3149.3 (no pressure)
I stopped the Staball HD because the case was getting really full at 73.5 grains and up, and it was running behind on velocity. The Retumbo printed the last 3 charges into a 1/2" group.
7mag Hunter with 140 TSX, same brass and primer (note speed jumps compared to 150 TTSX)
    Retumbo
    70.0 - 2909.1
    71.0 - 3053.8
    72.0 - 3107.1
    72.5 - 3161.4
    73.0 - 3118.7 (flat primer)
    Magnum
    73.0- 2854.2
    74.5 - 2947.2
    76.0 - 3075.1
    76.5 - 3092.2
77.0 - 3092.9 (the latter 2 in the same hole, no pressure)
    Staball HD
    73.0 - 2980.8
    74.5 - 3046.5
75.5 - 3141.3 (no pressure, still going up on powder)
What is interesting is the Hunter rifle has a slower barrel. And a fired case is 0.002 longer at the shoulder than those fired in the Lite/synthetic rifle. but, in some cases, I'm reaching pressures sooner. Ultimately I think you should really try LRT in that 270 WSM
