The Legacy Hornet…..that’s my old squadron VFA-94 Mighty Shrikes. The VFA-122 is from the training squadron. I was with 94 for the last cruise of the A-7E and the first deployment of the F/A-18….Brand new fresh off the factory lot 12 F/A-18C models…… I also was with 122 back in 1989 when they were the A-7 maintenance and pilot fleet replacement squadron…fancy name for training both maintenance and pilots….Assuming they were going back to Lemoore (N) on the tail…..the second letter is the individual squadron or ship/airwing assignment. N west coast and A east coast air wings. NJ has been Lemoore for at least 30+ years if not way longer. VFA-94 transitioned to the F model super Hornet around 2017-2018 time frame…
What on earth are they doing in such a gorgeous mountain paradise? I’m sure they’re looking for their carrier group. It’s one thing to see those warbirds on video it’s another thing to see them alive!!! Just awesome!!!
I've always wondered, how does the ground crew get home. Plane captain is like "there goes muh plane...awkward silence, surrounded by civilians. I hope I don't get jumped...unless it's some hot tail" lol
Not to nit pick, but if these are Navy jets, the pilot wouldn't be a Colonel ( 1:12 ). Am I wrong? Looking at the plane I think he is a Commander. But great video!!!
@Motocrosser14 not unless the MARINES are attached to the command. I dont see why they would be though being that VMFAT-101 is in Miramar and thats their training command
@LymeDiseasePublisher You continue to take your kid to see these things. I was raised around guns, races & a lot of other things that make noise and I'm just fine. Let him enjoy these things while he's young. Great video by the way.
@TheMadness323 They come for the air show every year. Regulations don't allow them to perform during the show, so the only time you get to watch them in action is finding out when they leave then showing up to watch the "show." Most people don't know this so its just a few of us watching. I learned how to fly at this small airport, some people who work there know me....... so I walked up on the tarmac to the planes to watch and get close, and no one said go back :-) Hence the cool video.
You would have to give about 10 years of active duty time and thousands of hours of studying to be able to have a chance at passing all the tests and flights to have a shot at being selected as a carrier pilot.
Pauliebuck has nothing to do with the intakes... the f/a-18e super hornet has upgraded engines compared to the c model (the second set of planes to take off). also, this looks like a high elevation area like Colorado or something. higher elevation means more runway to take off.
The Rhino is a larger heavier machine than the legacy Hornet. So as to avoid fatal miscommunication of Super Hornet & Hornet jets during carrier deck operations, the newer heavier machine was dubbed the Rhino. Mixing up catapult or arrestor cable settings based on misheard aircraft names could lead to fatalities.
@@puirYorick You know just enough to not know what you are talking about. "Avoid fatal miscommunication of Super Hornet and Hornet"? What? A catapult or arrestor cable setting is changed FOR EVERY Takeoff and LANDING. Every bird has a different weight. Those weights are relayed to the pilot at the catapult via a board showing his weight. The pilot confirms his weight. Upon landing the pilot reports he sees "the ball" for glide slope and his fuel state and his type aircraft. The type aircraft is relayed as to the height of the pilot's seat which gives proper glide slope for that type aircraft. . The catapult/arrestor cables setting is about weight of the aircraft not type.

@pmgMAKEupHubby just sayin, on the plane he has a CDR in front of his name. But you were there not i. Just making an observation, and asking a question.
You rarely fly the plane with your name on it. If your bird breaks you fly whatever is put on the flight schedule released from Maintenece. With that said, a Marine Colonel would not be in a Navy Squadron.
Actually, I'm pretty sure I did say "white power". It was a reference to the "Clayton Bigsby: Black White Supremacist" sketch on Chappelle's Show. The blind black man, who was a white supremacist, would hold his fist up and shout that out. I had no idea this was going to TH-cam, and I'm definitely not racist :).

@glenely I can assure everyone he didn't say white power. Like I've said before, the guy saying that is Asian, would be kind of strange if he said white power? I LOVE fighter jet noise - it's the sound of FREEDOM!
F-18 hornet is beast. i love this jet and that A-10 warthog is beast also.
VFA-122 from Naval Air Station Lemoore, Lemoore California. The first Naval Air Station to received the F/A-18 Super Hornets.

Stopping off and refueling during a cross country trip.
Get some hearing protection on the child.
The pilot is US Navy, a Commander, one step lower than a Colonel.
Hey! Their waving good bye! =) That's pretty cool.
Nice video m8!
That child is a future aviator
14 years ago, he is soon to be of age to apply for Annapolis.
Pretty cool But i hope the little kid has some hearing protection. Those things arent quiet. Good way for civilians to see jets up close.

Might be Marine pilot.
Classic. And video ends with, "These women are sissifying the moment." ...Good times had by all.
Bought the F/A 18 for the DCS simulator...oh boy this plane is sexy!
@BlackAces100 There's two models for a Super Hornet. An F/A-18e has one seat, an F/A-18f has two seats with an NFO in the back.
Would be helpful to understand why they were parked there and why you and others were able to get unfettered access to the tarmac?
@Legendary588 last two were from VFA-94 ''Mighty Shrikes'' callsign HOBO. pretty badass
@Motocrosser14 not unless the MARINES are attached to the command. I dont see why they would be though being that VMFAT-101 is in Miramar and thats their training command

after take off why do they turn left or right then continue on normal course? is to shake off anything that stuck on during take off?
They're waving goodbye.

It's such a shame that the rear seat in the -F a/c was empty. I'd love to fill it!
Does it take these jets this long before takeoff on a carrier
They use to catapults on the boat
amazing video, i would give anything to fly one!

@Blacksheep61 Navy uses a RIO, air force uses a WSO.
RIO is a Navy F-4 and F-14 term. Navy adopted WSO with the F-18F aircraft. Far more duties than just radar operator on a Super Hornet
@RozFamVids
Yeah, wing tipping is used for saying good bye and for non communicated- Acknowledged!!
@RozFamVids Thank you for your clarification. When I heard that I was like "WTF" too. Great plane and it is definitely a sight to be proud off =)
