Rescuing classic trucks! Going picking at a 150 year old ranch!

  • I went on a trip with Ben from 406 Garage to do some vehicle picking on a western Oregon ranch that is being cleaned up after the owner passed away. He was a collector of International trucks and tractors, and had lifetime of equipment at the ranch. Ben ended up buying four of them, so we used our ‪@MattsOffRoadRecovery‬ rope to yank one out of the way and gain access to the field, then loaded the Scout onto Ben's trailer with his ‪@warnindustries‬ winch, and I used my ‪@harborfreight‬ winch to drag the big Travelette onto my gooseneck trailer.

an old boy here in town bought a 1967-68 3/4 ton international out of the factory with a in line six engine which IH put in their 656 farm tractor, combines and other farm equipment. later IH 3/4 ton 2 ton up used their 6.9 diesel in them. That 6.9 liter was sold to ford to install in their pickups which later became the 7.3 when they installed turbos on them. That will get you started with some exploring on ford using IH engines in pickups and larger trucks

Casey you should get in touch with the Cable show "American Pickers". They would have a field day in that Barn. What great barn finds. The dead man's life story reminds me of a home I visited selling books door-to-door back in the summer of 74. I found an older person who had never been more than 5 miles from their house and still thought Harry Truman was still President.

Great story of a man’s life, from birth, teen, young adult, manhood, to a fulfillment of life. Awesome find in the barn. Speaking of lights on trailer, maybe a couple of LED’S aimed at floor of trailer, or adjustable to end of trailer, or to the object your moving, my opinion, thanks for taking us on your trips.👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

We all use the hobo freight winches like that, but if you read their warranty, they specifically void the warranty for that use.
I’ve always used the 12k model. I’ve pulled an international dozer with locked up tracks sideways. Had to have someone in the truck holding the trailer brakes full on with truck brakes full on as well. I’ve only have had the 12k snap twice and that was my fault for not having it secured properly.
My only complaint is that they don’t have enough space above and below the cabling. Would be great not to worry if the wire is perfectly wound.

Traction King was a 70's model of a Case 4 wheel drive tractor. My dad was a Case dealer when I was in school. We drove a lot of these and the others around. my brother and I worked for my dad from when we were 12 years old. the 70's models were so nice compared to the 30's models. Like a 830 model, 930 model, 1030 model, etc. became 870, 970, 1070, 1175 and the 4 wheel drives were cool to drive too. Key point of the 70's models were the quiet cabs that had radio and air conditioners. The engine for the bigger tractors was a 504 turbo straight 6. Case had gone into a partnership with Cummins at the time to produce an efficient engine. Lot of years ago though for me.

I've got a 12,500 pound winch I bought from Harbor Freight a while back (haven't installed it yet on my 1949 Chevrolet 6400 Series truck I use as a wood hauler) and I haven't seen anymore of them, seems like they are all now 12,000 pound winches. Mine is a Turbo Shift Classic and I plan on using it to pull logs into my truck so I don't have to venture off and cut the wood into small pieces then haul each piece back and split in then stack it in my truck. Going to save me some time, work smarter not harder... I think I heard that somewhere before!!! 👍

29: in and watching the unloading. U just hit on the issue the forklift was having. That diesel engine looked super heavy. Wide thick cast iron. Looks like he could have picked up closer to the front and deeper on the forks, but mainly, that thing is just ultra heavy. Rear axle may have been a srw D70, but not heavy enough to truly offset/balance. What fun though. That valley was like quiet as heck.

    • @scampsboytes9088

IH built and used that engine for many years, then Ford made a deal to use it also in their pickups until they built their own recently. They had GREAT success with both the 6.9 and the 7.3. the only one that had some problems was the 6.0, but not everyone had trouble with them and many of them have 3 and 400,000 miles on them, and the 6.9 and especially have 500,000 and more trouble-free miles.
