I built the exact antenna and dragged it up a tree until the base was 3 feet off the ground and immediately contacted Germany 59 from Missouri on the QT60 at 60 watts. Probably could do it at 20W. The J-pole on 10m is super! I am going to try to get the base up 25 feet and extend the radiator horizontally.

Just got plans to have a go at building a J pole. Surprising how the dimensions change depending on whose website your on ...
I have made a 10m slim jim and it's been fantastic, although I didn't use ladder line, parrel wires with spacers.
    Cheers guys.

With J-Pole antennas, the three dimensions: radiator, matching section, and feed point are inter-related and a change in one can be compensated by the others. That's why you see a wide variation. No one set of dimensions is right or wrong.

Considering the manufactured variety .... Solarcon A99 and the IMAX 2000 are both excellent

YES, Vertical for 10 meter band . that low take off angle really works great. The J pole works 1/2 wave and matching stub is efficient. You can do end fed half wave vertical as well using a 49:1 UNUN That works great as well but the UNUN will have more loss than a J pole. Still the same 1/2 wave of wire . I did about 5/8 wave into a 4:1 . I tuned the 25 ft for 1 band but shorting it until a match. I guessed. I just cut speaker wire and got 1.1 SWR on 28.074 MHZ . I am still shocked how well that worked over 1/2 wave. 10 meters going great now going into fall ! 73

Comparing 10m antennas with their feed points about 1/2λ off the ground, I found a 50Ω feed pointed vertical polarized delta loop to be the best for DX for me. No matching losses and an efficient radiator. Right now though with conditions as great as they are (in between solar blackouts) almost anything will work.. am currently using just a bent dipole in the loft/attic and working the world with very little power. 10m is such an awesome band.

Worked the us on a vector from UK a few times but it's bit heavy / unsightly. Rybakov works surprisingly well makes the trip across the pond and ideal for POTA. I would like to try a 10m yaggi at some point as they aren't too big.

@@hallen4094 try a quad, easy and somewhat cheap 2 build. Everything has gotten big time expensive 2 buy. A tuned home manufactured quad will have every bit the gain of a comparable size yagi and for far less cost. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM.

Good video as always. I use a retuned cb antenna (I-Max 2000) with the ground radial kit. If I hear them l talk to them and they hear me loud and clear. I have made confirmed contacts to New Zealand on 28.425 usb @ 5 watts. The antenna works. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM.

A Sirio Boomerang CB antenna tuned for 10m is surprisingly effective ,especially portable as at a 1/4 wave it is manageably short (stationary on a car or short pole) and with it's counterpoise reasonably effective. Give it a try sometime 73 M7BLC

Hi Mike, in this video you mentioned a 10 m J pole is 25 feet long tip to tip. In the video you made last year the math worked out to be 17 foot long. Could you please explain?
    Thanks

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Actually you are correct. If you calculate things out for a copper J-Pole antenna for 10 meters, it comes to about 25 feet long (depending on the amount of mounting section you leave). In the video where I show how to build a wire version of the antenna, it is about 17 feet long. The discrepancy is two fold: there's no mounting section at the base, and the wire version has an optimized feed point location which ended up making the entire antenna shorter.

Oh yes, I didn’t think about the mounting section when it comes to making the copper J pole, which you don’t have when you’re using the wire, J pole.. thanks for the clarification and quick response. I’m going to make one of these 10 m wire J poles. Thanks for the video.

I just want to state that I own the best 10M antenna. It's a simple inverted V at 17 feet. Today I had a QSO with Japan on the 20 watts from my G90. The band is wide open and the DX is crazy on my simple, not-fancy antenna.

    • @kd5you1

I made an inverted V 10 meter antenna, but then I decided to make the positive wire vertical at the top of my Spiderbeam 40ft mast. I connected that antenna to the same balun that my 40/30/20 meter linked inverter V antenna was connect to (using a Y adapter with Anderson Powerpoles) and it worked great. The balun was at about 34 feet, and just happened to be the right length for the 10 meter antenna to fit.
