I would tell some people. People I can trust. An if anyone started getting greedy, I'd just cut them out of my life.
Part of the problem they made, was being super generous right from the start. Without even being like "Yo we didn't have to do this, but we thought it'd be nice to bless y'all. We can't really do this all the time or for everyone, but...we decided to do something nice for y'all"
INstead it was more like "YOu didn't treat us the best and we're just giving money away to ALL family members. Because we can."
If you let people think they CAN be Entitled, they WILL be entitled often times.
Personally tho, when I dated a girl who had more money than me...I never tried to hit her up for money. I never just expected her to pay for all my meals. Anything she gave me I saw as a gift freely given, and NOT an entitlement.

My mum the eldest of the family went to the grandfathers house to get his goods and chattels for lack of better words. All the ( or most of ) grandma's jewellery was already gone to the vultures, virtually overnight. The few pieces that were found including a pair of gold teardrop earrings ( very old ) that were left behind as one of the ghouls had given them the tooth test and found they were not solid gold. They left teeth marks in both earrings thus destroying them and threw them back in the box. To this day my mum still has them. Note: they were indeed quite valuable ( she had them valued for curiosity sake, value B4 the damage ) . The ghouls through their selfishness and ignorance discarded value. @@Francisco-mn7gt That is just heart breaking and awful. Unfortunately, you have to invest wisely in the right people. Otherwise you'll have nothing to show for your efforts. I've learned that the hard way.
Honestly the whole "Giving money to teachperson asking for help", is one f the big parts of the so called Lottery Curse where you end up WORSE off. People just get a ton f people asking for help, they spend it on people who are just there to party an leech. etc. Then by the time taxes are done, suddenly you have very little to show for all your efforts, if you don't end up bankrupt for failing to save for taxes.
One of the things you're supposed to Master in order to be happy with that money, is LITERALLY learn how to say no, without saying no. Like "Hmmm....I;ll think about it. Can you give me a week to think it over?"
If someone doesn't need it like most, they never show up again. If they come back, chances are they DO need it and are willing to do what it takes to get it.
One rich guy won the lottery and got screwed over by people so bad...he got POOR. He LOST a bunch of money, even though he knew how to invest it. Polce would bully him for money. People wouldn't just accept "y'all stole it from me." etc.
An if you want to help a larg amount of people, you're going to have to do it in a way to fight something Systemically. Like bribing the city to create a safe little area for homeless people, for example.

One friend asked for money in a bad moment in his life and when he was ok and I needed help, asked for my money back and refused.
2 cousins travel thousands km. to visit one of our aunts who was in the hospital dying just to make sure she wrote a testament, as soon as she could talk and said she did, they left, didn't call to know about condition, didn't call when she died, didn't come for the funeral, just the money the cared about.
If I won the lottery, I'd do my best to hide it from everybody. Easy for me cause I moved alone to another country 😉😉😉.

@@Francisco-mn7gt The 1 week rule isn't perfect, but it's definitely a fantastic defense against strangers at the very least.
As with anything involving humans there will ALWAYS be exceptions to the rules.
Though it IS recommended that you keep your status as a Lottery Winner on the Down Low, or just getting a bunch of money unexpectedly.
There was a guide made that was created to help you survive winning the lottery.
Since a lot of times you'll be killed by your family members trying to take your money. To say nothing for all the other issues.
One smart think they could do, is to put down a downpayment. To pay only enough to pay off the house in monthly installments. Then you could write up a lease to rent to own, where once they pay you enough you give them the house.
It'd be a great way to bless someone, but it'd also mean they couldn't take advantage of you. nor you them.
(Seriously rent to own can be SUCH a scam unfortunately)
An even if it's not your own family....it could be friends of your family. Friends of the granddaughter who was getting a big fat allowance from the grandfather...they pumped her full of info. Then they robbed and maybe killed the grandfather to get money, which wasn't even much if anything at all. Though I can't remember if the guy died or not. Or maybe it was a niece.
But it's just a good example.
It's honestly scary what some people will do for money. Also REALLY sickening as well.

Had a friend come into money. I was there when it happened. I flat out told him don't let anyone know you have this, just spend only a little extra on yourself over time and no one will be the wiser. He didn't listen to me. Now, the two of us hung out in mostly different circles of friends, I was aquaintance level at best with a few of the circle he hung out with. He said it was no big deal, nothing would change with his close buds. Yeah...within a week his 'close buds' were asking him for money, by the end of a month he had to cut ties with all of them. His own family was haranging him for cash too. After 7-8 months he moved out of state, changes his numbers, didn't tell anyone about his new job, etc. The only one he still talks to is me and his sister, I was shocked to hear the two of us were the only people who never asked him for money.
All this from what was honestly not a lot of money. He only found himself suddenly flushed with 'buy 3 houses' money. Which is what he did, one to live in, two to rent as supplementary income while his job generates his actual income.
It is incredible how people are more like guppies than they would want to admit.

I'd certainly pay him back for his kidness.
I got this GF who has told me that's FAR rather have me in her life than money. That money doesn't buy me happiness, but I make her happiness. I know she hates gifts, so I'd probably just spend money on visiting her an other stuff.
For some that;s all you need to do, is just fly over to visit them. Then you'd have a lovely time together. You could even rent a place if you needed or wanted to! Get some souveniers. Pay for some meals. Nothing super big, just "Oh I got some money for a vacation, but there was extra money. So I decided to use it to come see you"

When money was flowing I had people stopping by all the time But after i finally got them to understand there is no more to give away i have not heard from any of them for over 7 years. This all got started by my parents they would get the money from me and give to them first older brother and sister then to nieces and nephews. It got to the point they were giving away more of my income then I was keeping for myself. Before long the people are no longer grateful, instead they complain the food they are being given isnt what they want or its not enough. The people no longer thank the group for helping them but now consider it the groups responsibility to give them the food they deserve.
Theres the old saying; Give a man a fish and he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can eat for a lifetime. Earn your own money and stop expecting others to take care of you. The audacity of these people astounds me. You can't order someone to give you money just because you want it. Yeah, this isn't anything new, apparently. From stories my Grandma told me when I was a kid, this was standard behavior towards rich relatives, in olden times.
My Grandpa was the only son of an extremely rich man. My Great Grandfather was also an only child so my Grandfather ended up inheriting all the family wealth. My Grandma was also from an extremely well off family. So we were financially stable.
My Grandpa decided to relocate our family to a big city because he was a lawyer and he wanted more opportunities than he would get in his village. At this time two of my Grandfathers cousins, from his mother's side, came and asked him to split all of his wealth into two and give a part to each of them. Their logic was that my Grandma was just as rich as Grandpa and nobody needed that much wealth. And since he was going to make big bucks as a lawyer, he could afford to give all of his money away.
Grandpa had bought them each new houses and a few acres of land the year before. And it wasn't like they were suffering for money or struggling to make ends meet. They were comfortably middle class, just not wealthy.
Well Grandpa refused. They said that they deserved a share and Grandpa told them that his wealth was from his father's side and they were on his mother's side of the family. They didn't deserve anything and he wouldn't give anything. They tried everything, from water works and guilt trips to curses and abuse.
Grandpa left with our family and they never saw each other again. Good riddance, Grandma always said.

For the family members who helped, they deserve to have money put back in their pockets. They sowed in some good deeds when everyone else was abandoning them.
Unfortunately, most of the family were cold hearted greedy people. Unwiling to help them out or even give them a loan.
There are people that you CAN trust. For instance, I never act entilted with other people's money. I look at it as a gift that I should be thankful for. Even when I had a GF who ahd more money than me, I NEVER expected her to pay for ALL my stuff. Sometimes she'd buy me food or coffee, other times I was paying for it. I never complained the times I was the one paying either.
All I tell people is, "If you come into some money i'd ask you at least buy meals when we're together and a nice gift for my Birthday and Christmas. I don't need or expect you to just toss a bunch of money." An in terms of a nice gift, it could be a brand new computer, rather than a brand new car for insance. It's open as to how "Nice" is defined.

And should you try to get a restraining order banning someone from your state, their lawyer will get a big old smile on their face, and proceed to jump up and down with joy while explaining that a person can not be bared from working, living or residing in any state, that right is enshrined in law.

Honestly if someone offered to pay my mortage and education for my kids, I’d be super great full of what they have done. It’s just generosity.

Wow she came into loads of money. What a incredibly nice lady to pay for so much of her family and friends bills and debts. I would be so grateful for that type of kindness!!

I pray that the lady does not give in to her family. She owes them nothing and should only give to whom she chooses! Stand her ground and tell them: BYE FELICIA!

This is a prefect example of the saying: "No good deed goes unpunished." Keep your business to yourself. The less people know about your situation, the better - especially family.

The first story: I must say you are an awesome woman and human being. To do all that you, and to have so much love for your family. I am 1000% sure you did the right thing. Sil and hubby were so ungrateful, however her children were great! Even your own hubby supports you and knows it's your money, that alone makes you a truly BLESSED person. Don't worry about SIL and her hubby, they will learn from this or they won't. As for you and your hubby...you both rock!!! The very fact that you care enough to give what you did was so sweet. Just because two entitled and ungrateful people don't know when to shut up is not your problem. Stay as humble as you are and stay safe!!!

Please don’t ever give any of those vultures anything. You will never hear the end of it. Give to whom you want and/ or charity, but to reward such behavior puts you down on their level. They will drain your money, your character and your heart. ❤️

My father and a friend of his tried to get me to move with an elderly relative that I was close with. It wasn't to really help her, but to try and get her to sign over her house to me and get money from her.
I was extremely angry. I don't get angry often, but when I do, people remember it. I don't yell or swear, I get extremely calm and icy.
My father smiled for his friend, but I could tell by his eyes that he was embarrassed and angry. We aren't Asian, but my family is big on the whole, "saving face" thing. He never spoke of it again, but it changed our relationship. I called him even less and when I visited the city I rarely contacted him.
He wasn't a good father and the only reason contacted him at all (holidays and birthdays) was out of some misplaced pity because none of my siblings and can stand the man. We fortunately, had a great step-father who was as ethical as he presented himself, unlike my father who acted like he was a great man in public to cover up his narcissistic, manipulative abusive ways.
I had wondered for years if I could take advantage of someone to get their money (like my father use to) but my first thought was of how disgusting it was. I was outraged.
I couldn't imagine expecting a relative to hand over their hard earned money just because they had a lot. While it would be great, it shouldn't be expected or demanded. If I was close and going through a hard time, financially, I might ask to borrow some money, if I could get over the embarrassment, that is.

OMG! OP is so much more generous then I would have been. That is exactly why you don't let people know if you have money. Stay strong OP.
