      Great simple advice ! I done boxing for about 6 years in my younger days and the trainer was excellent on the pads , another trainer who held the pads would , as you describe “ be like a brick wall “ and would hurt my wrists as I punched hard , and it really pissed me off ! I hate holding the pads for a hard puncher as I suffer from tennis elbow ! So some good tips , as I would just hold pads and let the other person smash them , and suffer in pain !

    Great video! I’m a trainer that’s been using mitts for a while with my clients, but because many of my clients are middle-age soccer moms they like to punch more for fun and stress relief than to be good at it. Also their punches don’t carry a lot of force…so it’s easy for me. Now I work in a gym with a lot of young college guys that want me to be their pad partners and we are having a blast BUT they punch considerably harder lol. I’m alright catching punches with my right hand but dude…when they hit me with a left hook it feels like they are going to take my arm off. I would love for you to make a video emphasizing how to use the mitts safely on big hitters with our weak arms/hands. Thanks dude!

    Great video! When teaching a Southpaw doesn’t standing in Orthodox make it more realistic? As they would be facing mostly orthodox boxers? I have noticed it is very difficult to get the cross to get full extension standing orthodox. Thanks for the great content!

    • @GlennHolmesLA
      @GlennHolmesLA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in terms of fighting yes, in terms of fitness, no. The reason being, when you mirror the stance it allows better range & form for the boxer

    Hi Coach H, thanks a lot for those amazing videos! One question, how do you hold the pads when your opponent is much taller than you? If I am holding it high, my arm does not give proper resistance. Should I ask them to lower their stance to meet me where I am instead? Thanks a lot!

    • @GlennHolmesLA
      @GlennHolmesLA  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thanks for watching & commenting 👊🏻 don’t ask them to lower their stance, it’s on you to keep the mitts at the right height for them, but yea with a taller client it can be harsh on the shoulders, try using paddles instead

    I catch the 1-2 with the same mit. Otherwise the jab is to one side and for the cross you turn to the other side. As if you are punching to people heads standing next to each other.

      yep, but check out note in the video on why that can be a option too

    • @GlennHolmesLA
      @GlennHolmesLA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mostly the same concepts apply, but if sparring then dominating with the lead foot, getting it outside the lead foot of opponent is key, also controlling the jab

    Loved this video mate!!!! I have just started coaching and have seen another coach using his rear pad to catch straight punches and lead pad for hooks and upper cuts! I have tried to emulate and have mastered the straight shots but I am wondering if you could.do a video 9n how to get the other shots flowing using this tecnique
