Most of the critics reviews are positive anyways, this has the highest number of GOTY awards. I saw Nakey Jakey's video , no game is perfect, but I liked TLOU2. I don't care if others are mad, I still had fun. Dunkey did talk about some problems you just didn't notice them cause of your hatred

Yea, it’s very obvious that he’s just trying to get controversy for a follow-up video. It feels very evident from these past few dunkviews. A game that’s super popular and getting a lot praise: 1/5. A game that a majority of people unanimously hate: 4/5.
Playing through the game a second time made me realize how much I care about the characters in the game. The scene with Joel and Ellie in the museum made me want a DLC that’s just Joel and Ellie hanging out and watching movies
@Thunder Cake123 Yeah I agree with that but I think that may have been somewhat intentional too, at least sometimes; they humanise some characters just enough to make them feel real. In turn one you kill the random people it can feel just like that; they are just random people with their own lives who you didn't know. As for the characters in the story I agree with you, I think it's probably some development constraint, or just a narrative one; they probably too many for their own good tbh

You know when I first watched this video I thought to my self this guy is crazy. But 3 years later having had enough time to forget about all the spoilers and all the negativity I bought and played the game for myself and experience it blind. And having now finished it this guy was spot on.
I'm replaying it myself for the first time in years and also having a blast. It still feels like a cutting edge experience tbh. Why do you think people are so up in arms about the game?
@@smellyarmpit23 I honestly have no idea. I prepared a long comment speculating every possible reason but it was very long so I didn't bother posting it. To sum it up I think it's mainly 2 things. 1, people being hurt by Joel's death and 2 later being forced to play as the person who killed him. Not only that there was so much negativity and bad aura around the game a bunch of people I'm sure just followed the group instead of giving it a proper chance. I bet a lot of people would chanage their opinion on the game if they gave it a second chance, especially now thanks to hindsight. Personally, I was able to open myself up to it, and playing as Abby was honestly a stroke of genius and a big part of why I enjoyed the game so much.
Didn't have a Playstation at the time and didn't pay much attention to the game, just heard it was bad. I recently got a PS5 and gave it a try, and it completely blew me away.

@@nubsmcgee Anytime someone brings up this point I always wonder if they ever take into account what occurs BEFORE they enter the house with Abby’s crew. Because it seems to me it’s always (conveniently) ignored. People act like in the house, surrounded by Abby’s crew, is the first time they give their names. It isn’t. Joel and Tommy rescue Abby. Abby works alongside them to help fight off numerous infected. They’re stuck in a dire situation in desperate need of escape. Tommy then proceeds to tell her their names and ask for hers. Do you not think, all things considered, that this is a situation in which it’s acceptable and even useful to know each other’s names? Fighting alongside someone in a fight or die situation is a pretty quick way to gain each other’s trust. At least to a name knowing level I’d say. It’s only AFTER this that she suggests going to the house where her crew are. If Joel and Tommy suddenly decide to lie about their names whilst there then Abby would have called them out.

I think the gameplay and AI is criminally underrated for this game since the entire focus is on the storyline. The way stalkers work in game and in general enemy encounters are so damn dynamic you will be always on your toes. Stalkers should be the seed for next generation AI design of stealth enemies. Amazing.
Just played TLOU for the first time on PC and beat it, not sure if the gameplay is similar to the 2nd game for the remaster but there was not a dull moment during gameplay. Phenomenal
I finally got to playing and beating this game about a week ago. I had no idea why people were upset about this game, but I just played it without digging into it. It is now one of my favorite games I have played.
I had a friend who loved TLOU, and read all about TLOU2 spoilers. He was livid and felt like they ruined the series. I didn't read the spoilers but I heard how mad everyone was. Played the game on Day 1 and didn't stop until I beat it. I told him how good it was, and basically had to persuade him to play it; then he loved it. It was just stupid gamers being stupid gamers.
I didn’t know anything about these games and I played the first one and second one back to back recently and it was one of the most intense gaming experiences of my life, don’t know why people hate it cause I wish I could replay them again for the first time nothing quite like it I’m glad other ppl feel the same way.

I didn't like this game because it shot both of my parents in front of me in a alley after leaving the theater. Both of my parents were killed by this game. But I did inherit my father's wealth and I've used that money to never work again and spend most of my time clicking on every TLOU2 videos I can find and say how much I thought the story sucked. I will now dedicate the rest of my life debating anyone who thought the story was good.

It's not "the lesser sequel", it's an awesome sequel, much like "Uncharted 2" or something. And in turn, thát game was like the "Dark Knight" to its first part. - So yea, I'd argue "Part II" is like 'The Dark Knight', which definitely isn't perfect either. - I just get chills every time I think back of the game I spent nearly FIFTY hours with. - I also get nauseated, because damn is it dark and depressing. It makes the first game look cute. - But that also means that it made an impact. I will add that it was overly praised in the awards world and whatnot... Or was it, I'm not so sure. - I just mean that it seemed like they were "overrating" it, while, at least for the VGAs, the audience votes went to 'Ghost of Tsushima'. - But I think "TLoU2" will stand the test of time more because of its story and unique approach. -'Ghost of Tsushima' just works because it's refreshing, received like "a better Assassin's Creed", with fun gameplay and a great world to go around it. Though, I haven't seen much praise for the story. "TLoU2" gives you much more to think about, and many people don't appreciate it... yet.
I remember when I first hopped on the hate train because everybody else was doing it and I wanted to try and fit in. I got influenced by my brother's reactionary opinion back when this game came out, playing it now and i'm absolutely loving it, it's stunning and runs amazingly on the ps5. and I say this as someone with specific tastes that hasn't been a huge fan of heavily cinematic games ( I thought GoW 2018 was pretty mid but Ragnarok was a masterpiece imo)

People call the game shit but it's basically the first game: main character losses someone they're very attached to, losses all emotion, pushes everyone close to them away, goes on a mission, and at the end changes their mind about actually finishing the mission. The only difference is the reason they change their mind

I feel like that’s an important difference 😂 I like the game, but I still feel like it doesn’t properly explain to the player why she doesn’t kill Abby, or foreshadow her choice. It still feels kind of out of nowhere, with everything pushing her to that place.

Too much of it felt like it came out of nowhere, that even if they have it written in some book as lore, it doesn’t translate to the audience. Plus the cut levels show what they wanted to add, which would have foreshadowed it a lot better(especially the boar scene)
I just finished this 30 plus hour long adventure game having managed to, if not avoid spoilers, have no memory of the game beyond the E3 trailer. It was released at peak unvaccinated COVID times and I was busy working and my children who are growing had taken over the PS4. With a week to myself and a PS5 acquired this past Christmas, I purchased the last of us part 2 and consumed it. It was amazing.
yeah, my reaction too. except I did know about the controversy, i just saw cool videos on the internet with the shootout compilations. didnt expect to really engage with the story. but i did. it was pretty good.

i recently finally played the game. a couple years ago I heard all the leaks and even watched people play disjointed parts of it. it never really gripped me watching others play. i had no idea if it was good or not but since EVERYONE was saying it was terrible, I figured that when I played it I would for sure find *something* about it that left a sour taste in my mouth. Instead, I left it wondering how everyone could possibly hate something like this. It was so much fun. I can't stop wanting to play it all over again. The story has imprinted on me. I genuinely loved the direction the story took and found it so compelling. I spent the whole time of ellie's 3 days waiting for the quick switch to abby since everyone acted like you barely were allowed to play as ellie. but by the time ellie's portion was nearing its end, I was genuinely thinking 'man I would really like to play as abby now, this ellie section has been LONG'. and it wasn't until abby's section that I really struggled to put the game down. i was craving to play every moment that I was away from my ps4. her story was new, refreshing, engaging, and I loved learning about her side of the story and lev. the seraphites were fun and interesting to fight. i dunno man. abby's playstyle was really great too. i was so shocked when she could go toe to toe w clickers fr like WHAT. also, i really liked the ending. it was just GOOD. i was incredibly baffled after finishing. I'm a big fan of this game.

Also saying "revenge is bad" removes every single bit of building the game does throughout the story and removes the entire second act's Seraphite vs Wolves thing you get to experience and how it changes and affects the character you play as. I'm mentioning this because not a lot of people focus on it, even though it was the highlight of Abby's part...
Dunkey I beat the remastered version of this game today so I can finally watch the video. I think when you say Abby is like Joel in her adventure, it really nails what makes the game work. The idea of tearing down the players preconceptions of who is good or bad even when the underlying groundwork is the same really shines thru. Great video

Ah I see you didnt come across the alternate ending of last of us 2. It's normal to miss it, considering you have to find the little giraffe statue in the first level and proceed to place it on the alter in the last mission. It was quite unexpected to have the giraffe god descend from the clouds and wipe out the fungus and bring peace back to humanity.

If that's really what you think, you don't even know why I hate this game. I grew up quite poor. We lived in the hills. In a place my brothers built from things they found. Metal sheeting, plywood. When it rained, it smelled like hay. We were always hungry. But there was a lucuma tree. Scrawny. Barely alive. My family had given up on it years before. Never bore fruit. When I was seven, I became fixated on it. I watered it, tended to it. It took a long time, but the buds grew into green fruit. I was so proud. I didn't tell anyone. I plucked one and hid behind our shack. I ate the whole thing, I'd never tasted something so sweet. It was like caramel. At first, we ate the fruit ourselves. And then I began taking it to the village to sell. One day, much of the fruit was gone from my tree. Pieces were scattered on the ground, half-eaten. I thought it was probably a The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog. Have you ever see one? About the size of a large house cat. Opportunists. I built a snare, using branches and wire. It didn't take long for the animal to set it off. But the The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog trashed so hard it broke out of the snare. Broke its leg as well. I tried to grab it, but it slipped away. It ran under the house. I knew it would show itself sooner or later. So I waited, for hours, into the night. When my brothers called for me, I did not answer. I didn't make a sound. I was so still. Finally, it came out. It knew I was there, but it was hungry. This time, I was ready. I caught it. It fought me, but I was stronger. The merciful thing would've been to kill it. I kept it. It lived for quite some time.
Once in awhile, I go back to watch this. Someone actually breaks down the plot in a reasonable and cogent way, without knee-jerking, "omg, they killed Joel, the plot's shit, waa, waa, waaa!!!!" Don't care what the rest of the internet said. I think LoU2 was a masterpiece. It's nice to know I am not alone.

I was one of those haters, but looking back now, I realise how immature and just but hurt nerdy it was. If you actually look at all the hate reviews, they’re all just man children, who are the kind of people who get upset that *insert comic book character* wouldn’t do “x thing” because it’s not in the comics. Guys there’s actually a hidden ending where you unlock a feature that allows you play the entire game as Will Ferrell. In order to unlock this ending you must go into the Cheesecake Factory and ask the waiter for the “Ferrell Surprise.” Don’t let the developers know I told you this.

Noticed that too! In his dunkview he was impressed, in the best of 2018 he said it was genius, now he praised it throughout the video. Maybe the tedium of the climbing is wearing off, I find that after I haven't played a game for a while I kinda remember mostly the good parts.

I remember people shitting on this game, people saying its the worst sequel ever made, which made me aswell to shit on the game. I recently got a ps5 and checked it out myself, This game is amazing. I learnt my lesson, Never say negative about a game without playing it.
I recently finished both games for the first time, and part 2 imo was utter trash. The gameplay was good, but why care for the gameplay when the story sucks. They killed off the main character 1/4 into the game, then you spend the next 1/4 of the game hunting down the person who did it to get revenge, killing everyone who knew her or trying to extract information from them. Finally when you hit the climax and confront Abby, you are forced to spend the next 8-10 hours 1/2 of the game playing her boring ass backstory and naughty dog forces you to try empathize with a character who just killed the main protagonist (who you spent a previous 20 ish hours playing as in the first game). The dumbest thing is you don't even get revenge because "revenge is bad" even though you kill countless people in the second game. They never needed to make a sequel and this game is a stain on a good title

Also the fact Abby hunts down Joel, brutally kills him Infront of Ellie then is like well dont come after us because we let you live is completely idiotic and terrible writing, especially since Abby is surprised when she does this like wtf is this writing. The biggest problem is how the characters seem to never made a normal decision and constantly change their mind for completely random reasons which makes it seem the only reason it was that way is so that it fits with the story. For example, Ellie gives up on the idea of revenge, then settles down with Dina and sudden Tommy shows up, convinces her to leave everything behind and go for revenge. She finally tracks down Abby, frees her from a prison camp, but then does a 180, fights her in a bloody battle, then right before drowning her, she lets her live????
The contriversey before the games release ruined it for me. I wanted to go in spoiler free but these assholes TH-camrs i looked up to like Mutahar and Angry Joe started to talk about it, making TH-cam start recommending videos with spoilers in the thumbnail or title. These youtubers say they care about the gaming industry yet they judge games based on a stupid article, poisoning the experience for themselves and their audience before the game is even releeased.
AngryJoe has always been an insecure manchild. Rewatching his old videos ten years later, while a full fledged adult, showed me just how horrible he's always been.
I put off playing this game for years until now (2023) because of all the negative feedback it got... and I'm sorry I was a sheep. Yes Joel dying is disappointing but the rest of the game is just perfect, good combat, good story, good characters, good graphics, good sound. I hope everyone plays it and isn't a sheep like me. I find the cruelty of the story of TLOU2 is pretty practical. I understand that people don’t like emtional hardship playing a video game, not everybody’s cup of tea. But cinematically, i find it intriguing.
@@jackjohn4156 the entire point of the game isn't to say that revenge is bad, but to show you how to move on with your life, instead of continuing a pointless and painful cycle of bloodshed just to make yourself feel better. ellie realises this after both she and abby have lost everything, and that the only way to move on was for both of them to just go. learning to moveon is the entire point of this story, and those that don't see that and a still salty about the game are too immature to understand how to grow.

In turn one you kill the random people it can feel just like that; they are just random people with their own lives who you didn't know. As for the characters in the story I agree with you, I think it's probably some development constraint, or just a narrative one; they probably too many for their own good tbh

You know when I first watched this video I thought to my self this guy is crazy. But 3 years later having had enough time to forget about all the spoilers and all the negativity I bought and played the game for myself and experience it blind. And having now finished it this guy was spot on.
I'm replaying it myself for the first time in years and also having a blast. It still feels like a cutting edge experience tbh. Why do you think people are so up in arms about the game?
@@smellyarmpit23 I honestly have no idea. I prepared a long comment speculating every possible reason but it was very long so I didn't bother posting it. To sum it up I think it's mainly 2 things. 1, people being hurt by Joel's death and 2 later being forced to play as the person who killed him. Not only that there was so much negativity and bad aura around the game a bunch of people I'm sure just followed the group instead of giving it a proper chance. I bet a lot of people would chanage their opinion on the game if they gave it a second chance, especially now thanks to hindsight. Personally, I was able to open myself up to it, and playing as Abby was honestly a stroke of genius and a big part of why I enjoyed the game so much.
Didn't have a Playstation at the time and didn't pay much attention to the game, just heard it was bad. I recently got a PS5 and gave it a try, and it completely blew me away.

Anytime someone brings up this point I always wonder if they ever take into account what occurs BEFORE they enter the house with Abby’s crew. Because it seems to me it’s always (conveniently) ignored. People act like in the house, surrounded by Abby’s crew, is the first time they give their names. It isn’t.
Joel and Tommy rescue Abby. Abby works alongside them to help fight off numerous infected. They’re stuck in a dire situation in desperate need of escape. Tommy then proceeds to tell her their names and ask for hers.
Do you not think, all things considered, that this is a situation in which it’s acceptable and even useful to know each other’s names? Fighting alongside someone in a fight or die situation is a pretty quick way to gain each other’s trust. At least to a name knowing level I’d say.
It’s only AFTER this that she suggests going to the house where her crew are. If Joel and Tommy suddenly decide to lie about their names whilst there then Abby would have called them out.

I think the gameplay and AI is criminally underrated for this game since the entire focus is on the storyline. The way stalkers work in game and in general enemy encounters are so damn dynamic you will be always on your toes. Stalkers should be the seed for next generation AI design of stealth enemies. Amazing.
Playing on survivor is always intense, really make the game feel alive

I had a friend who loved TLOU, and read all about TLOU2 spoilers. He was livid and felt like they ruined the series. I didn't read the spoilers but I heard how mad everyone was. Played the game on Day 1 and didn't stop until I beat it. I told him how good it was, and basically had to persuade him to play it; then he loved it.

I didn't like this game because it shot both of my parents in front of me in a alley after leaving the theater. Both of my parents were killed by this game. But I did inherit my father's wealth and I've used that money to never work again and spend most of my time clicking on every TLOU2 videos I can find and say how much I thought the story sucked. It's also way fucking awesome. - This game will only age like fine wine once all the whiners drop off and more people pick it up.
It's not "the lesser sequel", it's an awesome sequel, much like "Uncharted 2" or something. And in turn, thát game was like the "Dark Knight" to its first part. - So yea, I'd argue "Part II" is like 'The Dark Knight', which definitely isn't perfect either. - I just get chills every time I think back of the game I spent nearly FIFTY hours with. - I also get nauseated, because damn is it dark and depressing. It makes the first game look cute. - But that also means that it made an impact.
I will add that it was overly praised in the awards world and whatnot... Or was it, I'm not so sure. - I just mean that it seemed like they were "overrating" it, while, at least for the VGAs, the audience votes went to 'Ghost of Tsushima'. - But I think "TLoU2" will stand the test of time more because of its story and unique approach. -'Ghost of Tsushima' just works because it's refreshing, received like "a better Assassin's Creed", with fun gameplay and a great world to go around it. Though, I haven't seen much praise for the story.
"TLoU2" gives you much more to think about, and many people don't appreciate it... yet.

People call the game shit but it's basically the first game: main character losses someone they're very attached to, losses all emotion, pushes everyone close to them away, goes on a mission, and at the end changes their mind about actually finishing the mission. The only difference is the reason they change their mind

I feel like that’s an important difference 😂 I like the game, but I still feel like it doesn’t properly explain to the player why she doesn’t kill Abby, or foreshadow her choice. It still feels kind of out of nowhere, with everything pushing her to that place.

Too much of it felt like it came out of nowhere, that even if they have it written in some book as lore, it doesn’t translate to the audience.
Plus the cut levels show what they wanted to add, which would have foreshadowed it a lot better(especially the boar scene)
I just finished this 30 plus hour long adventure game having managed to, if not avoid spoilers, have no memory of the game beyond the E3 trailer. It was released at peak unvaccinated COVID times and I was busy working and my children who are growing had taken over the PS4.
With a week to myself and a PS5 acquired this past Christmas, I purchased the last of us part 2 and consumed it.
It was amazing.

I just noticed that this can also explain the ending of the game. Abby's selfless act of letting ellie and dina live, saved her own life.

i recently finally played the game. a couple years ago I heard all the leaks and even watched people play disjointed parts of it. it never really gripped me watching others play. i had no idea if it was good or not but since EVERYONE was saying it was terrible, I figured that when I played it I would for sure find *something* about it that left a sour taste in my mouth.
Instead, I left it wondering how everyone could possibly hate something like this. It was so much fun. I can't stop wanting to play it all over again. The story has imprinted on me. I genuinely loved the direction the story took and found it so compelling. I spent the whole time of ellie's 3 days waiting for the quick switch to abby since everyone acted like you barely were allowed to play as ellie. but by the time ellie's portion was nearing its end, I was genuinely thinking 'man I would really like to play as abby now, this ellie section has been LONG'. and it wasn't until abby's section that I really struggled to put the game down. i was craving to play every moment that I was away from my ps4. her story was new, refreshing, engaging, and I loved learning about her side of the story and lev. the seraphites were fun and interesting to fight. i dunno man. abby's playstyle was really great too. i was so shocked when she could go toe to toe w clickers fr like WHAT. also, i really liked the ending. it was just GOOD. i was incredibly baffled after finishing. I'm a big fan of this game.

Also saying "revenge is bad" removes every single bit of building the game does throughout the story and removes the entire second act's Seraphite vs Wolves thing you get to experience and how it changes and affects the character you play as. I'm mentioning this because not a lot of people focus on it, even though it was the highlight of Abby's part...
Dunkey I beat the remastered version of this game today so I can finally watch the video. I think when you say Abby is like Joel in her adventure, it really nails what makes the game work. The idea of tearing down the players preconceptions of who is good or bad even when the underlying groundwork is the same really shines thru. Great video

Ah I see you didnt come across the alternate ending of last of us 2. It's normal to miss it, considering you have to find the little giraffe statue in the first level and proceed to place it on the alter in the last mission.
It was quite unexpected to have the giraffe god descend from the clouds and wipe out the fungus and bring peace back to humanity.

Pieces were scattered on the ground, half-eaten. I thought it was probably a The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog. Have you ever see one? About the size of a large house cat. Opportunists. I built a snare, using branches and wire. It didn't take long for the animal to set it off. But the The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog trashed so hard it broke out of the snare. Broke its leg as well. I tried to grab it, but it slipped away. It ran under the house. I knew it would show itself sooner or later. So I waited, for hours, into the night. When my brothers called for me, I did not answer. I didn't make a sound. I was so still. Finally, it came out. It knew I was there, but it was hungry. This time, I was ready. I caught it. It fought me, but I was stronger. The merciful thing would've been to kill it. I kept it. It lived for quite some time.

I recently finished both games for the first time, and part 2 imo was utter trash. The gameplay was good, but why care for the gameplay when the story sucks. They killed off the main character 1/4 into the game, then you spend the next 1/4 of the game hunting down the person who did it to get revenge, killing everyone who knew her or trying to extract information from them. Finally when you hit the climax and confront Abby, you are forced to spend the next 8-10 hours 1/2 of the game playing her boring ass backstory and naughty dog forces you to try empathize with a character who just killed the main protagonist (who you spent a previous 20 ish hours playing as in the first game). The dumbest thing is you don't even get revenge because "revenge is bad" even though you kill countless people in the second game. They never needed to make a sequel and this game is a stain on a good title

The biggest problem is how the characters seem to never made a normal decision and constantly change their mind for completely random reasons which makes it seem the only reason it was that way is so that it fits with the story. For example, Ellie gives up on the idea of revenge, then settles down with Dina and sudden Tommy shows up, convinces her to leave everything behind and go for revenge. She finally tracks down Abby, frees her from a prison camp, but then does a 180, fights her in a bloody battle, then right before drowning her, she lets her live????
