i'm a newer MCR fan (started listening in 2019 a few months before the reunion which is crazy timing) and i remember getting the youtube notif for foundations at 6 in the morning..... truly the wildest time of my life i think i cried a little 🥹 it was definitely different from their most famous hits but i love that they just do what they want regardless of what kind of music people expect from them they're playing the black parade in full at WWWY this year so idk if they'll play any new songs, but always excited for the potential of new music !!
As someone who loves MCR more than anything, foundations of decay kind of sounded like their old stuff but at the same time was its own thing entirely. I believe their whole point was to do something different and I absolutely LOVED it
i think they’re new image is profound and mature. they’re not trying to be 20 something’s and wear a bunch of costumes so they can keep singing for the media. they’re just human, and they have the power to do whatever they want now, and what they can do with that is fucking awesome. my favorite lyric from the song is “you *must* fix your heart” because i feel like stereotypical emo often has this hurt, self-deprecating nature, but this lyric tells you that you can’t be broken forever. god, i love this band.
Foundations of decay was awesome , it was mid tempo and broody and it had an amazing atmosphere to it. The vocals were different but not in a worse way and they honestly complimented the song. Lyrics are good and honestly I’m ready for this next , post hard core/proggy MCR phase
Loved foundations of decay, and I really hope that the album follows in that vein. Much more mature rock and anyone who’s been following Gerard knows he’s been into some harder and more industrial sounds so I’d expect something really interesting coming our way!
i started listening to mcr maybe around 5 or 6 years ago, long after they had disbanded. I saw a new song on my recommendations, it was uploaded recently, and the uploader was MCR. you best believe i had that on repeat for a while. It was amazing, it was heavy not just in its sound but its imagery. It reignited an old passion I had, and the sort of grim feeling I get from the idea of what the end is and what the actual foundations of decay are will continue to drive me to capture that same sense of tragedy.
Foundations of Decay is great, not every song needs to be a catchy song for TikTok edits. It feels a lot like a song from their first album, but now with the budget and expertise they acquired after decades of work.
@@NeverNormal honestly Gerard’s black metal growls are tight, their newest song definitely gave me the impression that if they wanted to go that direction they honestly could do it and do it exceptionally.
This would be cool as hell. I also like to imagine a future where they pull an Alexisonfire and release a really heavy-hitting sludgey kind of stoner rock thing and obliterate expectations.
Foundations of decay actually got me into MCR! Most of my friends are fans, i never really listened to them (liked the music, just never went out of my way), but when that single was released, I eventually started to get into more of their music. I’m personally became a big fan of the Bullets Album.
I'm actually really interested to see, assuming MCR5 exists, if they'll continue even further down the road they began with Foundations of Decay in terms of theming the album around age-wise where the band themselves are, and their core fan base from the 2000s. I'm wondering, if judging by some of the sounds and lyrics in Foundation of Decay, if they'll pull like the canonical LCD Soundsystem "I'm secretly dreading how boring life as an adult is but can't do anything about it so here's me trying to cope with it" themes that I've found to hit some alt/indie/rock bands hard. Blur's most recent album is a great example of this, and even as a young adult I would love to see how and if MCR chooses to address these themes now, especially that I think they've become sort of a hallmark of a lot of the alt music genre.
I almost wonder if MCR go further away from the FOD sound. The song isn't even in their top 10 of spotify. If they went more "Rock" music they could fill that void of rock music not being anywhere in the mainstream. Either way the next song released should give us al ot of information. Thanks for watching!
First time I heard MCR was actually on the video game Burnout 3. I'm Not Okay is featured on the soundtrack and I was instantly drawn to that weird mix of cool rock with sadness. lol Always fun to hear the first time people listened to MCR
Black parade was actually a bonus album, fans liked it so much that the band just decided to make more. They don't have to put albums out and shouldn't unless they feel the album is perfect for that time.
at the beginning of the year I was like 'Huh, they really dropped one song and fucked off' and I genuinley thought that was the end of it. I'm hopefully this is credible but I have to take it with a grain of salt because its the internet. I feel like once we get a tour announcement like the user suggested then I'll become more confident. Maybe we will get something for Umbrella Academy S4. Maybe MCR wrote and made a song for the final season as a farewell to Gerard's current project as he moves back onto MCR.
I LOVED The Foundations of Decay. I actually think it's the best song they released as a single, and is one of the best songs they've done. It's just immaculate.
I'm about fifty years old, I've never been an emo or anything like that, I just love good music. Moreover, hope is a mortal sin, as the ancient Greeks believed. But I sinfully hope that MСR will release a new album, simply because I know “Black Parade” by heart and can sing any song from any line and wish to enter the same river again.
When you’re 28, at work and don’t wanna scream like a fan girl (cuz it’d be awkward) because you get to live long enough to see a new My Chemical Romance album come out!
I don’t think MCR makes music for the casual music fan. They make what they want & if it ends up being a hit, fine. They definitely aren’t pandering the masses with the creative direction of their music.
Oh ya I agree. My point was Foundations of decay doesn't sound like MCRs "hits" so I understand why it's isn't in the spotify top 5 or getting radio play etc. I'm very interested to see where their sound goes. Thanks for watching!
The Foundation of Decay sounds a lot more of like the first album- bullets, this song mean a lot to me as they symbolize a phase of transition from the old life to the new beginning and being able to make peace with it, MCR, a lot with their art and music and that is one of the reasons why I be able to keep up and grow with them as well because I felt like I grow so much as individual alongside with them and their creation. I think when you grow out of your younger years, you find a new meaning and reflect a lot from the past and be able to learn and let go of them so you can live with peace with yourself. like death and rebirth .That is sort of like what I gather with the record and what Gerard had to say nowadays about everything, I watch a lot of his interviews and podcasts, it’s like you are witnessing the true life of a true artist, not just creating great music. They create something authentic and I think that’s why MCR has always been really special in my heart. It’s just amazing how they be able to maintaining all of this, I don’t know if you notice, but I feel like this current moment although there’s not so many movements, this time is really powerful and crucial in the music industry and for a lot of people, there’s something in the air. I don’t know what it is, but I notice that since 2020, I don’t know, but it’s just different. Foundation of Decay seems like there's more to it-behind that record, much more occult-like.
I was so excited when the Foundation of Decay was released, and believed there would be a new album soon. However, nothing happened until now and since I am not able to watch their concert, I almost forgot they have returned(
I've been a big fan for over 15 years. If I know this band like I think I do, this next future project is about to be like, unpresented. Like some deep stuff is about to happen and I'm kind of terrified.
Absolutely loved foundations of decay. It seemed like a logical direction for their sound picking up from conventional weapons. Vocals were mixed way too low tho (common for MCR, but this was too low). Interesting tho that when seeing the lyrics on Apple Music, some didn’t match up and it was hard to tell what they actually were from listening. Then when I looked a year later, the lyrics on Apple Music had changed, and while some parts seemed more accurate, other parts that sounded correct before now seemed inaccurate. Anyone else notice that? Anyway, hope they re-release it on new album with vocals turned up and accurate lyrics displayed!
I'm a MCR fan since their debut, I didn't like very much The Black Parade album and era at that time, much more since then, and the same thing with Danger days era. For sure I was much more into the two first records album. But when I first heard The foundation of decay, it was like I was a teenager again, like this song is a song I already knew and used to vibe on even if it was a brand new, this is the feelings that I get from it. For this moment it is like my MCR favourite title. I really hope if there is a new album, the songs of it are according to this one. It would be so dope. Can't wait for it.
I went to a show during the reunion tour in the US, and they did play a new song, it had a similar vibe to Foundations, and I remember none of the lyrics. I remember seeing tiktoks of them playing new songs at some other shows too around that time. I've been asking where the album is since then because there was new music already made. Idk if those songs were to test the waters, but people were hyped but not the same excitement as them playing their hits by far
Yeah nah this video is very surface level the creator isn't obviously in the Fandom lol he's missed so much of the current like small things , -all of mikeys posts in the studio as the most recent-
@@ADumbSwan Yeah, seriously. MCR is all about the small things. Maybe once upon a time it wasn’t the case but I think over time they have become aware of fans theorising and analysing the sh*t out of everything and as a response became more subtle about letting fans know about their next concept/album. It’s just part of the dynamic/relationship the fandom has to the band. The band has always respected us fans and that includes our opinions- they don’t think we are morons. I also think that since their last studio album-Danger Days, MCR doesn’t care much about what’s ‘cool’ or ‘mainstream’ and if they do it’s to make commentary on it. That is to say they did WWWY fest 2022 for their own reasons and will do 2024 again for their own reasons. And got back together for their own reasons. And speaking of WWWY part of the reason why fans think there is an album in the works is because that WWWY 2024 date is the only concert date they have announced in this supposed new touring cycle. (It’s also sus that it’s been said that they will play The Black Parade even though this year it’s the 20th anniversary for Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, their breakout album.)
I can tell you don’t really know MCR very well or its fans. MCR has never approved of the emo label & Black Parade is definitely known more for the rest of the album rather than the single. Foundations of Decay also definitely sounds like a continuation after Famous Last Words so I’m not sure why you think it doesn’t sound like what fans are used to? Very confused by the takes in this video.
As a fan of The Black Parade album, I like Foundations of Decay as a song but I'm just not really a fan of the production style. I am looking forward to see what comes next from them though.
Knowing MCR and gerard.. they will work on this album until its perfect in their eyes since they don't need to pump out an album for their record label every few years now, they can take as much time as they want... I bet we won't see anything until next year or at the end of this year at the earliest... we might get something for wwwyf in October.. but if we don't, then I don't expect anything until next year.. they played new music that was unreleased during the tour, so I know for a fact they are writing again they just arnt putting anything out. They did the same thing during the three chears tour for black parade..I expect a new album eventually.. unless they pull a conventional weapons and scrap the whole album and start over and write killjoys.. not even joking that's why they took years to put anything out after black parade. Give them a few years..
Sorry, I know this is an old video, and I know how obnoxious the next thing I’m gonna say is. Just bear with me if you are in the right headspace to deal with an annoying person: anyone who didn’t like Foundations of Decay isn’t an MCR fan, they’re a Black Parade fan. SORRY, I know, that is the most obnoxious, stuck up fan thing to say. I know. But as someone who has been into MCR since 2003 (for those keeping track, that is the end of Bullets era) honestly, I hated Black Parade when it first came out because I was a dumb 14 year old who expected them to sound the same and then they didn’t so I thought they were “sellouts.” And I fully admit I was being stupid with that critique. That album is actually a flawless rock album. Anyway, as dumb as I was then, my point is, BP was such a totally different vibe than their groundwork (foundations, if you will) was and Danger Days was an even further departure from that. But if you ONLY know BP, I get how Foundations doesn’t work for you. However.... again, at the risk of sounding like an obnoxious oldhead, respectfully, you just aren’t an actual fan of MCR, you’re a fan of exactly ONE album. MAYBE two if you count DD. Which isn’t bad. But. That is not actually who MCR is, that is one part of MCR. You don’t know MCR or like the band for who they are and always were. Foundations was very exciting to us oldheads because it was truly MCR coming back to their roots. It’s who they ARE. Everything post Three Cheers is experimental. Wonderful, fantastic, mind-blowing, but.. experimental for them as a band. Pre-BP is who they ARE at their core. So, I’m sorry to say it, I hate being this person, but if you don’t like Foundations of Decay (and you AREN’T an oldhead fan; I haven’t seen this opinion from /actual/ OGs so no judgment on them rn until I see that opinion) then you just simply don’t like MCR. You liked one album, you like something that MCR can be if they want to. But you don’t like MCR. I’m sorry.
The Used have 2 decent albums and everything else is cringey pop trash for 13 year old alt kids to rebel against their parents and paint their nails black too, lame as fuck
I'm not. I did not even ask the question in the first place. I think they suck and I had emo/goth phase and I still thought they sucked back then. Actually maybe I was more goth.

@@lewisbirkett4428 agreed, felt quite "muddy" to me. TBP was an incredible sounding album so from that perspective I was a bit disappointed.
Lol bruh Gerard has said more than once that MCR isn't emo. At this point he's probably just tired of saying it and in the end it doesn't matter
The Paper Kingdom????????????
I’ve lost hope for mcr5 months ago. I do hope I am wrong
I’m sorry.
The Black Parade is “Emo” bc the aesthetic, the themes of death and dramatic heartbreak, and Gerard’s wailing vocals all SCREAM emotional damage.
There will be no new album. God has forsaken us.
MCR?? We have LS dunes , no need for MCR
Ls dunes are sick.
Thanks for watching!
There isn’t a new album, get over it
I don’t know how i got here but I must say, The Used are much better than My Chemical Romance
mid
If you can say that with a straight face after Heartwork and Toxic Positivity, i don’t know what medication to recommend to you
Okay grandpa, I really like The Used, but I think it's time for you to take your meds.
The Used have 2 decent albums and everything else is cringey pop trash for 13 year old alt kids to rebel against their parents and paint their nails black too, lame as fuck
Need to check out the new music.
Thanks for watching!
I'm not.
I did not even ask the question in the first place.
I think they suck and I had emo/goth phase and I still thought they sucked back then.
Actually maybe I was more goth.
then politely, why did you click on this video?
Maybe your just not that bright.
@@JessP-ut9gl Yes I don't like my chemical romance so I am not bright apparently. Do you have that low of an IQ that someone not liking something makes them unintelligent?
I also dislike certain food does that also not make me bright?
Jesus dude its a band. Calm your shit down.
I love Foundations of decay. ❤
