You’re attention to detail is 2nd to none. Everything you you do on the water is calculated and shows how good of an angler and guide you really are. Always appreciate the videos being new to this hobby.
This is undoubtedly one of the finest fly fishing videos I've come across, and it's without a doubt your best work yet. It's refreshing to see a focus on mending techniques, which are often discussed while the camera is fixed on the rod or instructor, rather than capturing the intricacies of the water and the actual presentation. Unlike many TH-camrs who seem more interested in showcasing themselves, you and your wife have skillfully captured the true essence of the technique. I sincerely hope you continue producing such informative videos, with a keen emphasis on the finer details and close-ups of the water. Your approach is truly commendable and sets a new standard for instructional fly fishing content.
Thank you very much for taking the time to film this video. New to fly fishing and your videos have been incredibly helpful. You have a natural gift for doing these type of videos.
Jacob has this thing fly casting down pat. Good job, dad. Thank you to the family for taking the time from your family vacation to help make this very informative excellent video. Much appreciated.
Joe you are absolutely the GOAT of fly fishing instruction on you tube. Great instruction, video and you have special gift as an instructor. Thanks for what you do for us who are trying to get better at this sport.
Great video as usual. So many awesome tips that I'll take with me when I hit the river this weekend. It's always fun to see you out with the boys. Great camera work by your wife!
What a superb video... thanks Joe and family for taking the time away from vacation to help the rest of us become better anglers. I will re-watch this one many times to soak up all the goodness in this one! Thank you!
Another great video! Like you said, a whole lot of tips and stuff to unpack in this one. Like another poster said I’m gonna re-watch this one multiple times to pick up all the little gems!
Always great video full of instructional info. Very entertaining as well. Thanks for interrupting your vacation to help viewers to be better fly fishermen.
I’m just getting back into the game after a prolonged absence and came upon your channel and I’m so impressed with your ability as a teacher. Not only that but as a dad as well and the way you impart your knowledge to your son. It showed when he commented on the netting attempt and you deftly deflected any blame. Just subscribed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Another great tutorial video Joe! Thx for the detailed lessons, tips, tactics and thoughts as it was all very instructive and interesting. Peace brother.
Excellent video with some very well presented techniques. I will try a few of the mending tips on my trip next week! Great seeing your family enjoying the outdoors with you.
This was a great video. The small tips which are extremely helpful for me as a new angler. The Mend tip with just using the rod tip was very helpful. Also the tip at the end of the video to twitch the fly to the side of the fish before drawing your line out for the next cast to avoid spooking the fish was great. One the best videos for beginners that I have watched, and I have been watching a lot of them. Keep them coming!
Great instruction that I will share with my veteran buddies at PHWFF. I appreciate the level of detailed explanation to show the what and why's for beginners. Thanks again!
Excellent video. I thoroughly enjoy watching and learning from you. You can tell you truly love what you do and that you like teaching others how to become a better fly fisherman. Thank you
What a really helpful video !...thanks so much for sharing so many dry fly practical tips ...and appreciate the one on one guiding session :)...happy holiday to you and family
Joe and family, outstanding video and instructional dialog, so much great information. You have such a wonderful gift for teaching, you are down to earth, alway positive, and stress proper handling of netted fish. I have to find a way to travel west of WY and MT and come see in the PNW. Tight lines.
hahaha, I love bucketmouths. I've got some guide friends from Chile coming to visit in a couple of weeks and plan to introduce them to bass. I'll film it!
Finally got to watch the entire video - outstanding stuff Joe, thank you again! Is this the trip that you tested out the Trout X rod? What reel and line did you pair with it? Tight lines! 🎣
Thanks and good question, I'll typically start with dries during the late spring - late summer even if there are no hatches actively present. Start with dries, check it out, then move underneath after a few holes.
Hey Joe, what length of leader do you use when you drive fly fishing? I’ve been using a leader that is about 12ft on my 5wt/9ft rod; I build my own leaders based on a George Daniels formula
For most of our fisheries, we don't run much over 9' as we have fairly technical currents and accuracy is more important than stealth. 7.5' 4X would be pretty standard for me, I'll stretch that out to 9.5' or 10' with small flies and more selective trout in flat current.
Man there's so much information, terminology, 'hidden' execution, etc. I can imagine anyone somewhere in the beginner to intermediate level getting really confused. Maybe we're trying to teach too much in a short time. What's wrong with a learning path of several years rather than becoming a 'master' in two weeks?...

Thank you so much, really appreciate that. I love knowing that folks are picking up what I'm laying down!
Thank you. perhaps the most complete tutorial on fly casting that I have seen.
Glad it was helpful!

Just an amazing video👊👊 you’re son is awesome!! My wife would kill me too.🤣🤣
Your wife is a real brave trooper to sit there and film on your casting side.
She gets a fine dinner for payment. I don't even gripe if she orders an appetizer.
Great video Joe. Your videos are so good.
Thanks so much, I'm trying hard to get better at the quality.
More largemouth content, please! A video on locating bass in the summer and how to target them would be great!
hahaha, I love bucketmouths. I've got some guide friends from Chile coming to visit in a couple of weeks and plan to introduce them to bass. I'll film it!
This video is amazing! You guys did a great job!
Another great video with a lot of useful tips. Thanks again!
You bet, I'm so grateful for what I do and I hope my vids help folks enjoy some great high's on the water like I do.
Thanks, Joe. You always have useful tips. PS: the closest my wife gets to a fishing trip is if she walks in on one of your videos. Enjoy the holiday.
That was us for years haha. Slowly shifting the paradigm here.
Nice video! So much to learn as a newbie to fly fishing!
You bet, keep at it!
Well done! A lot of tricks here
Nice video! Are you in Idaho, Joe? That river is beautiful!
Excellent! Great tutorial!
Thank you, much appreciated!
This was super helpful!
Well done.
Finally got to watch the entire video - outstanding stuff Joe, thank you again! Is this the trip that you tested out the Trout X rod? What reel and line did you pair with it? Tight lines! 🎣
I fished the Trout X with an SA Amplitude Infinity Line, 5 on 5. Very nice casting rod.
Thank you
Hi Joe. Thanks for another fantastic tutorial ! Great job.
Do you fish dries even if there are no fish rising and no insect hatch?
Thanks and good question, I'll typically start with dries during the late spring - late summer even if there are no hatches actively present. Start with dries, check it out, then move underneath after a few holes.
Great informative video. Well done. Ive got a lot to learn about fly fishing. What state is this your fishing. It is beautiful
Thanks so much, appreciate the kind words. That is Montana, Flathead River.
I learned SO much! Thanks, Joe, Jacob and mom! What length/wt rod were you using ,,,great casting,/mending Joe?

Is this the teanaway river?
It's not, it's a channel on the Flathead. The water color is very similar.

Maybe we're trying to teach too much in a short time. What's wrong with a learning path of several years rather than becoming a 'master' in two weeks?...
Might as well give 'em a chance. Viewers are pretty smart.
@@redsflyshop Well it sure was entertaining! 😄
The truly curious will tease out the tougher stuff and look elsewhere to fill in the details. That's what I did. Love it!
Lol it’s really not that confusing.
What camera omg its so HD
Just a GoPro 9, the light make such a huge diff.
Joe and family great stuff guys 👍👍 Thanks for sharing 🎏 🇺🇸 🗽 🇺🇸
Good Luck too all on the water 👍
