He said "he could be really good he just doesn't care that much about it". Looks like since his father has passed he has started to get a passion for it. I think that is just awesome.

Not only has Dave Grohl lost two band mates and best friends now, his mom, whom he was extremely close to, died on August 17th. And he continues on, and has such a positive, kind demeanor. I really admire him.
This was really a concert to honour a lot of musicians who'd died in recent years. Rush was there, as was Queen, & Wolfgang Van Halen, among many others. Young Nandi Bushell was also part of the show, drumming her little heart out. They even had a picture of Olivia Newton-John on the drum kit.

What everyone witnessed should be remembered for years to come. A young boy, comes out and plays the drums with the rage of a boy who has lost his father. As devastating as it may be, the most important part is that it’s incredibly inspiring. The look of all the band members says it all.
That little pause and then Dave going, "He's nailed it, hasn't he?" actually made me choke up even more. He did nail it. What an amazing tribute to his dad, his hero.

One thing I noticed, the other recent performances of this song before Taylor died, Dave would often sing the chorus an octave down, or not with as much intensity live (understandably, because it's really hard to sing, especially for 25 years), but in this performance he was really belting it out throughout the whole set. So cool.
I’ve watched this performance SO many times and I cry every time. I can’t imagine what an amazing outlet for his grief that was for him. I just hope he could hear the crowd and how much love was in that place for his dad and for all of them!

I saw this as soon as it came out and it's just heartwarming (and heart wrenching) to see this kid play with so much passion and fire when he's still surely mourning the shocking loss of his dad. We know Dave Grohl is still mourning as well (how much loss does one man have to go through) but it's really great to see him on stage again celebrating his friend's life.
The way he beat those drums wasn't only "I'm playing for the Foo Fighters, I gotta perform", but "This is for you Dad" and... it's indescribable. The force I would've put into that, to remember my father.. there'd be no limit to how much I'd be concentrating to every single blow and timing. Just witnessing this makes me miss my father, who died of cancer 6 years ago... God what I wouldn't do to just talk with you one more time.... for just a few words... you *were* my hero :'(
Love the look Pat Smear was giving him during his small solo at the end as well. Pretty sure that was Pat that gave him a hug backstage after the song. Pat's kind of like the lovable grandfather of the band.

This was a tribute concert to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins on September 3, 2022. The concert was held in London at Wembley Stadium. The drummer for this song is Shane Hawkins, the son of Taylor Hawkins. The least you could do is get the names right. I would suggest that if anyone wants to make additional comments on Shane’s performance they do so on the actual You Tube video of the performance that’s also a fundraiser for two charities that the Hawkins family chose to honor Taylor.
Dave played another song-- a slowed down version of Everlong--- after this one, and Dave broke down while singing the song. The crowd helped him out. It was very emotional. At the end, everyone who played came out and took a bow to honor Taylor. Dave was at the mic next to Shane and he kissed and hugged Shane. I do not think there was a dry eye in the house.
No, he broke down during the Times Like These, the first Foo song performed without Taylor, and in the spot, where Taylor, famously saved Dave... when Daves voice went out. Everlong was the last song... after about 8 songs, played, like how Dave usually plays it and he more than kept it together during it.
I watch the special that was put together and up on one of the streaming networks of the memorial concert and it was amazing. His sone Shane has a musical career ahead of him if he wants it. It brought me to tears.
Dam .. I bet a lot of tears were shed that night .. shit I’m trying to hold some back right now .. I’ve loved the Foo Fighters for so long .. and it’s heartbreaking to think of them going through misery.. fuck
He plays like his father. Elbows flying, all out. I think he may end up being even better. Maybe he should just join the band. I've watched this at least 4 times and I tear up every single time. It's so perfect. Playing on his father's drums. I think he was channeling Taylor. 😓
If you look at him while playing, Shane looks like a little boy and a grown man at the same time while playing. Brilliant. And Dave…he was a drummer who lost a lead singer, and a lead singer who lost a drummer.
The UK holds a very special place in Dave Grohls heart and he considers the UK a 2nd home in many ways. The British fans embraced Nirvana before The US ever did. He planned a tribute gig in the UK and in LA later this month. Its really quite a lovely sentiment behind it.
This just makes me well up. I love the Foo Fighters and it’s just heartbreaking that they lost Taylor Hawkins at such a young age. I’m so glad that these guys are gonna be there for his kids. Still breaks my heart.
I was fortunate enough to have actually been at Wembley for the tribute concert and the show was just incredible. Definitely one to remember and what a show of respect for the late legend Taylor Hawkins!
i still cant believe what this boy is doing right here. he is drumming his pain off. this boy is so huge, at least as talented as his father! you can tell with every single beat how he feels. i admire this kid for his strenght. and you can tell as well, that he truly is family to dave grohl, watching over him, while being devasteded too. they are sharing their loss. Its heartbreking and -warming at the same time.
Kid did work and is a fantastic Drummer. This was Emotional for me because This band means a lot to me and my Childhood. I am a big fan Of Rock n Roll and even Heavier music, anything with passion like this. Seeing Dave stare at Shane during that Solo was beautiful, and have to agree he saw Taylor.. Beautiful moment
Shane has his own band and that band toured with his father's side project band. There is another concert to honor Taylor Hawkins in California (L A?) at the end of September.
The kid did good, Taylor would be so proud if he saw this, the band gave him the chance to say goodbye to his dad in style, and if you watch he totally rocks the drums like his dad did, RIP Taylor
Completely agree with the stadium comment. They were the first band to perform at Madison Square Garden when it re-opened after covid. Such a great live band, you always know they're going to put on a great show, that's why they do Glastonbury nearly every year. And they commit to it. When Dave jumped off stage in Sweden and broke his leg, the rest of the band played different covers with Taylor on vocals, and then he still came back and played the rest of the show whilst a doctor held it in place.
I love how all the guys in the band keep looking back at Shane - to see if he's ok? to marvel? to give reassurance? I don't know, but you can tell they all care about him.

@@goatitisful I actually thought they kept looking back thinking "is that Taylor back there or Shane?"
Probably to make sure they are in sync with beat breaks and stuff
At end Pat smear and Dave look at each other and it’s hard not to think that they were thinking “yup, he’s Taylor’s son for sure”
All of the above

Dam .. I bet a lot of tears were shed that night .. shit I’m trying to hold some back right now .. I’ve loved the Foo Fighters for so long .. and it’s heartbreaking to think of them going through misery.. fuck
This version of this song gives it the energy and justice it deserves🤘
Damn that boy destroyed !! I’m Shane Hawkins new biggest fan !!
Age dont matter when music speaks through you. At this moment everyone cried and no one was ashamed of it.
I love that Pat Smear gives him that big hug at the end.
Actually it was Roger Taylor from Queen
Wolfgang Van Halen also played his dad's parts on a couple of Van Halen songs at thst same concert. He was really good.
Made my eyes water. How proud would he be of his son. Amazing.
It's almost as if they wrote this song for Shane before they even knew why. Shane beats the crap out of them, just like his dad!
This buy made history with this performing. This the most brilliant and emotive performance by a drummer.
Cried the whole song. What a beautiful touching video. ❤
I was there. It’s was just so emotional. Been a Foo fanatic for over 20 yrs.
As soon as Dave says “he’s a member of our family” chills!!! Thats a heavy clip. Add to that the background of this song that Dave wrote!!
Sadness, anger, just emotion. What you would expect from a 16 year old that just lost his father
The UK holds a very special place in Dave Grohls heart and he considers the UK a 2nd home in many ways. The British fans embraced Nirvana before The US ever did. He planned a tribute gig in the UK and in LA later this month. Its really quite a lovely sentiment behind it.
Exactly!!!
There was a positive British documentary on Nirvana!
This just makes me well up. I love the Foo Fighters and it’s just heartbreaking that they lost Taylor Hawkins at such a young age. I’m so glad that these guys are gonna be there for his kids. Still breaks my heart.
I love how you can see his dad's influence in his drumming but also Dave's as well. Brave kid!
You Office Blokes held it together. I had ninjas cutting onions, sweaty eyeballs and I think my dog stepped on a bee.
💙
I was fortunate enough to have actually been at Wembley for the tribute concert and the show was just incredible. Definitely one to remember and what a show of respect for the late legend Taylor Hawkins!
It really showed his love for his Father when he kissed the drums.
You're hired, Shane!
I watched the entire tribute concert it was very emotional but also fantastic to see the music community coming together
The intensity of that kid is amazing!
I'm not crying, you're crying.
And me. Yes, I'm crying as well.
How could you not??
And when I realized that he kissed the drum, I completely lost it.
What a hell of a way to send a tribute to a bandmate/father
I was there that day and it was unreal. An amazing moment.
Can’t express how much I love this ❤️❤️
Mike said it all, “Superb That”.
i still cant believe what this boy is doing right here. he is drumming his pain off. this boy is so huge, at least as talented as his father! you can tell with every single beat how he feels. i admire this kid for his strenght. and you can tell as well, that he truly is family to dave grohl, watching over him, while being devasteded too. they are sharing their loss.
