I was at this show, in the front circle, on Shane's side of the stage. I couldn't take my eyes off him. This moment was monumental in an evening of huge, huge moments. I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry a few times during the 6 hours of music.

Wolfie killed it also. Some people almost accused him of faking it, because it was so spot on! But Taylor stole the show!

I think that you're right. Shane's moment dominates right now and for however long, for all the obvious reasons.
I bet people will start revisiting the other great performances and unexpected moments that were forgotten
      for a minute,
      after we saw
      Shane's performance.

Yeah, this kid smashed it. He’s only 16. The pride on Dave’s face hits me in the feelings every time.
I’m sure Shane has a lot of “band uncles” who will always look out for him. Like Dave said when he introduced him, they’re a family. I can’t wait to see where this kid goes.

Dave played pretty much all day and night, every instrument. He cried, he sobbed, he laughed, he lead the way. Keeping in mind, his beloved mom died just last month too. Even the kids, seeing Shane run over and give Wolfie Van Halen a huge hug, aftr Hot for teacher, for both their dads.. or Dave, Pat, their kids and the Hawkins kids sitting on the stage watch Violet Grohl sing Valerie... just the best healing vibes. How the crowd lifted Dave up when he broke down during Times like This, beyond touching.

I've seen this 10x on my own, and every reaction of it that I can find, and EVERYONE is missing 1 thing! At the end, right before his little drum solo...HE BENT OVER AND KISSED THE DRUM BEFORE HE BEAT THE BRAKES OF THEM!

No one ever mentions that if there was no video of this and no pretext that no one who ever suspect it wasn't Taylor playing it was so perfect. And how the kid literally emulates ever mannerism in style of his dad. It's like Taylor was sitting right in that chair with him while he was playing. This is a pretty darn technical song to play even for the son of a drummer

I ugly cried man! To watch Shane play THAT song was just so emotional. He beat the hell out of these drums. He played with so much emotion and rage for a 16 year old that just lost his daddy. He is his dads prodigy and did his daddy proud. Dave and the other members were constantly watching over him to make sure he was ok. You can tell they were so proud of him. Shane showed so much bravery and played his heart out. Just an amazing tribute to his father. Don’t know if you know this, but he played on his dads touring drum kit. Made it that much more meaningful.

Ive been to a whole lot of live shows seeing every major band you can imagine going back to the early 70's. To this day, the Foo Fighters are in my top 5 best live shows I have ever seen and we are talking from the Stones in the 70's to The Cure, Depeche, U2, TOOL, NIN, Nirvana, The Police, I mean a lot of shows. I saw the Foo's in Austin TX at ACL and it was one of the greatest experiences I ever seen. They bring you into their hearts and make you feel it and the power of music, in almost a tribal sense of celebration. Great reaction!

Yes, theres a little clip of Shane and Wolf hugging. Wolf posted it on his Twitter. Shane also played club gigs with his dad's side bands, including with Dave Navarro. He's definitely been performing in front of audiences for years, but of course this is a different level and circumstances. He's got a bright future, that's for sure.

Oooh! I had to stop scrolling and watch this. I saw the concert on TH-cam and I flipping cried through this song. Shane Hawkins is his father's son through and through.
I have loved Foo Fighters from their inception. I was so lucky to see them in concert in Atlanta in 2018. I sang along to this song as loud as possible because it reminds me of my Dad, rest his soul.
Now with Shane playing this song, it adds a whole other emotional dimension to the song for me.
Thank you for reacting and your insightful comments. ❤

His dad took over his body right before he hits the power section on floor and tom. This is way to perfect that its only 16 year old playing this song like this. And you can see in Shanes eyes while he do his dads signature fill in the end. It was Taylor and he was saying goodbye to his bandmates and family. Dave knew it was Taylor. Thats why his eyes light up and tears go down Shanes eyes. Good job kid❤️❤️

I expect that the Foos will take an extended break from touring and focus on songwriting until Shane turns 18 and has finished High School. After that, he'll become their official drummer, the same as Wolfgang did with Van Halen. After that historical performance, I can't imagine that anyone would ever really want to see someone other than Shane Hawkins sitting in Taylor's seat.

I think that Rufus Taylor, who was the Taylor Hawkins drum tech and the son of Roger Taylor from Queen, will be the next drummer for the Foo Fighters if they decide to continue on without Taylor. Rufus played during the tribute. Dave won't stop making music, but this may be the end of the Foo Fighters. It is nearly impossible to replace Taylor, but we shall see. Rufus would be an excellent choice.

Would love to see Shane take his rightful & earned place as a Foo if that’s what he wants for himself. Given he’s been at shows during along behind the stage since he was 6 I think he probably would want the spot. He’s certainly ready talent wise, is well educated about what the life entails and would certainly be safe given how many godfathers would be there to guide him. Taylor said in an interview last year that he & Shane had already discussed it and he was going to pass the drumsticks on Shane’s 18th birthday. He was ready to step back from touring & both love the idea of a Hawk always being on that stage. It had been discussed with Dave and the band as well. They thought they had plenty of time, it heartbreaking for everyone that they didn’t.

Neither Dave or Taylor were known for being "kind" to their drum kits haha. They beat the hell out of them, so when Dave remarks about how hard this kid hits the drums, that was a MASSIVE compliment and the kid absolutely proved Dave's point. There will never be a better version of this song than this version.

Kid smashed this song and he does hit hard on the drums. The fact he could get through this performance with all of the emotions he must have from losing his dad is something on its own. Add that he's doing it in front 90,000 people and while I know he's been around him for years, in front of one of the best and most bad a@@ drummers of our generation shows this kid is beyond mature for his age. We'll see him on tour soon if he wants to go down the route.

Oh man, they are one of the best live bands... they are almost in line with Queen, being somehow better live because its perfectly imperfect and they ALWAYS did at least 3 hours... rain, shine or broken leg XD
He really is so much like his father and Taylor once said that he (Shane) viewed Rufus Taylor as a mentor on drums which is hilarious because Rufus cites Taylor as his mentor who cited Roger Taylor, Rufus' own dad, as one of HIS mentors... its like this long line of drumming legends and I really hope he stays with it and becomes someone elses mentor down the road (maybe Rufus' child once he has one lol)

The Foo Fighters can play with any number of guest drummers. One of their back up singers , Barbara is a talented drummer.
Right now the Foos just need to breathe and grieve.

Yes! Most deff think Shane should fill his dad's shoes!!! I was thinkin the same Rick Allen was 15 when he joined Leppard I hope this will be the case it would be fitting to carry on under these conditions

I know that Shane's goal has always been to be a professional drummer like his dad. Dave Chappelle even talked about meeting him on the side stage at a show and he was wearing skater shoes and he asked if he skateboarded. Shane said no he didn't want to hurt his arms because he wanted to be a drummer like his dad.

Ssssstellar, stellar, stellar drummer and performance! I mean this kid isn't JUST a good drummer...obviously he FUUUCKING KILLS. But even more than that, he's literally rockin that kit as if he's already anactive touring musician.
That kid can def fill the shoes on the kit...and wouldn't make sense for anyone other than. Fuck yeah, Shane!!!!!

Shane is 16 and his dad Taylor was 50. The 2nd tribute will be on September 27th in LA I believe.

In my opinion, being a fan of them from the beginning (die hard fan)... I think Shane plays like his dad, and a little like Dave... but he grew with them.
I cry a little, each time I see this video. He's already good by his own merits. He's just 15 or 16 and he's just as good as his dad. Also, Dave Chappelle was saying that when he met Shane and asked where was his skateboard, Shane said he doesn't skate because he doesn't want to break his arms because he's a drummer or he's gonna be a drummer... something along these lines.
In my POV he IS already a Drummer. And I think he'll be famous on his own merits. Comparisons will alway be there, but he's gonna earn his place.

Dave Chapelle gave a good speech early on that day about meeting Shane and honoring Taylor as a father.

P.S. There is a clip from a concert at the O2 in England with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones… excellent!

How amazing would it be if Shane took over as the drummer. Sure he's sixteen, but I'm sure a traveling tutor would do for his last two years of HS.
