@JoJo-fan-right-here The problem is not with the movie itself, but with its fanbase; most fans try so hard to have a personality like Patrick Bateman and pretend that they're "Alpha" or "Sigma" males, but in reality, they act like total assholes instead of being like Patrick. @lololp we don’t see him trying anything at the beginning so we can’t really say that she was ignoring him. It’s not like the guy would’ve hung out with the girl is she looked “normal” anyways so your analogy goes both ways and now both of them are kicked out
@lololp- my guy, the nice guy look is not a flattering one for you. It wasn't that deep in what the story was about. We all do things to try and look good, which can hide our true "ugly" selves. It was just poking fun at how some dudes get turned off when they realize the girl was coming from the same situation
It does suck since she is very pretty without the sweater. Like the freckles and the messy hair is adorable. But as other people have pointed out, the point is the double standard and the true reason he couldn’t find someone was probably his attitude. Edit: 0:59 The foreshadowing here with the website’s text about the sweater being for alphas and being made by Chad is clever.
@lololp- Ignored his normal self??? Going by the short animation, she didn’t seem to have any idea that he looked completely different, and only felt comfortable to reveal herself when she found out he was doing the same thing. They both weren’t being true about their looks, and instead of talking about it after the reveal and where they could go next, the guy immediately swore at her and kicked her out.
Couple observations here: first off, I really like how it's clear that the girl would still be perfectly fine with dating him because she clearly enjoyed (what she saw of) his personality rather than his looks. Secondly, it's interesting all of the foreshadowing for the REAL reason this guy can't get a date: He gets angry at everyone being in love instead of looking for someone himself, he edits a 6-pack onto a picture of his BFM-sona, he forgot their anniversary even though it was clearly important to his girlfriend, who he'd been dating for long enough that she HAD THE KEYS TO HIS HOUSE. Overall, I hope this girl doesn't spend too long crying over this guy, because he is TERRIBLY shallow.
Don’t forget the advertisement of the e-shop. The founder of the company is named Chad and the sweater is advertised as “made by alphas, for alphas.” This is a red flag most of us overlook on first viewing.
Ah yes, because we all know there's no such thing as a man who struggles with dating. After all, every woman is a perfect little angel who has only one standard for dating, be a good person. If only he was actually a good guy, he could have any woman he asked.
It didn't click for me until someone else pointed out that it was about alpha males (look at the website), and then it all clicked for me in like a nanosecond.

If she had broken up with him then she would have been hypocritical. I literally yelled NO at the end. That caught me so off guard. What a beautiful animation and great subversion of expectations as someone who is so self-conscious to buy something like that would of course be that hypocritical.

@@weirdrpro922while I understand the sentiment. I think it's genuinely hard to represent an "ugly" character in a simple stylized art style without going crazy with their features which would seem pretty out of place in this short film. We can't see all the flaws the person would have in the real world due to limitations of the art form. It's the same way that it's really hard to make an "ugly" character in anime/manga without going super far outside of conventional body shapes and face structures.
At 0:59 he also has a “Regular American” poster in his room of some dude in a suit holding a knife. It’s a parody of American Psycho… he idolises Patrick Bateman too??? 😭😭
I was about to send this to my gf like a cute “us” type thing then right as I clicked the share link I saw the twist and holy fuck I think that extra second I took saved my relationship
Well in a way I'd say so was the guy, after he took shower though. In a way the flaws a person has in their looks, thougfhmainly ones they can't really control can actually be more appealing than the generally considered attractiveness. In the same both have things that aren't generally appelaing. Boy has meh facial hair and wears glasses. Girl is chubby and freckles. Even though those things aren't iherntly bad in much of a way, I believe of part of it is despite the flaws the person continues on, they add varity. SInc you don't need a six pack you just need to be strong, you need perfectly groomed facial hair, you just need clean hair. Glasses are what you make of it. Freckles, I don't even like those thing are one cutests aspects of the skin, like Black people with ther varition of brown, they make the perosn a different kind beautiful. So flaws or things aren't actually flaws and more so just a different thing can be eandering because they're unique. I mean even for understandable things like the girls' chubbyness expressing a lack of care for personal health isn't that bad, like sure she defintly isn't keeping track of her calories however is isn't enough to be ashamed over or really ashamed that much, just work on it and be better because Healthyness gives more ability to control your actions. I personally are into chubbyness and its appeal its is warmness, that is kinda why isn't that bad, aslong you ain't obese or more accurately you can actually enjoy moving, there isn't a problem. Flaws or extra aspects out of the norm add varity that gives a character or a person a certain appeal, as not everything in the norm is good for a good reason. Still personally i feel the flaws should've been extended further with the character designs, like for girl she'd have a condition where some of her teeth are missing, boy's small blindness is enough actually, these are things that actually do affect the person and can be made to make them seem ugly. Well the teeth thing I understand actually, though it is merely an aspect. Flaws add varity basically and actually even if a perosn is actually ugly, who they are can make the uglyness be beautiful in a way despite, THey will be still ugly but it won't be the only thing they're.
I like the messages and metaphors that this short has. Both parties weren't entirely truthful in their appearance, but the difference between them is that one learns to accept both of them for who they are and the other doesn’t whatsoever, and becomes a hypocrite. Ironically enough his “true self” didn’t come out when his hoodie was taken off, but when the girl was, showing itself to be far uglier than any physical trait. EDIT: You can even see that he doesn't accept even his "perfect" self when he is shown photoshopping abs onto it when the girl was visiting. It shows he directly values appearance/vanity over everything else, compared to the girl who probably only did it to have people treat her better as a person, as seen when she doesn't devalue the guy for his true appearance.
@@o340 Valid interpretation. I was looking at it in a more "literal" sense, where the sweater physically changes you into something you wish to be but ultimately aren't. Though on second thought the changes caused by the sweater are minimal at best, especially for the girl. They could probably look like that with exercise and makeup, something available to everyone. I am now leaning more on your side, I thought it was "wrong" because the sweater fundamentally changes you into something you aren't, but it isn't like they are really "lying" on anything too serious, like for example past relationships, their biological sex, etc. I do see the point you have. It isn't necessarily looking "better" that is the problem, it is the heavy emphasis on how those looks don't directly value a person. Someone who is conventionally attractive shouldn't get better treatment than someone conventionally unattractive. The only thing I would say I have an opposing opinion on in regards to the story/message is that the boy accepts his appearance as well as others without the clothes. The boy demonstrates that he doesn't accept anything except what other people look like with sweaters. Even with the sweater he has, he still wants more (as seen when he is shown photoshopping abs onto his sweater-changed self). With others, sure he is nice with the girl when she has the sweater, but as soon as she takes it off he sees her as lower in importance when compared to her "perfect" self. In other words, he is flattered when she accepts him at first, but as soon as she reveals herself to be less attractive, he values her flattery a lot less. EDIT: I changed the comment to reflect this thanks for the insight.
@@o340the boy is definitely wrong for throwing her out and calling her a b!tch But yeah it is a social commentary, i just dont think theyre equal in "wrongness" or lack thereof. I think the details of the Animation don't really matter to the story. Because probably she just draw her that way because it was easier or whatever. It doesn't seem to be "in universe" for the Story. The story is obviously supposed to make them both typically unattractive.
She liked him even when he took off the sweater and wasn't as attractive. He dumped her when she took off the sweater and was equally attractive. There is so much wrong with him.
She wasn't even bad looking either. A quick brush through that absolute mane of hair and a change out of those dingy clothes and she'd be plenty good looking. I'm biased though because I like long hair on women.

Except that's actually not true, most guys are annoyed by women who go after dudes who have a lot of money. They completely understand going after attractive dudes.
@@trentdavis3304 Of course. Since you types of losers think it's "biological" for women to like "objectively" attractive men. And I love how they always say women are "money hungry" as if that were a bad thing. If you had the option to have a lazy life with your partner providing everything for you, you say you wouldn't take it? I've seen teen boys make the "5 dollars are 5 dollars" joke more than I've seen girls gush about riches
A point completely missed by many commentators is that she WAS dating a hot guy. When the asshole was nerd-looking no one wanted him, but the moment he got the sweater he got a hot girl. First impressions do matter, and you are unlikely to find somebody if you are a man at the bottom of the social hierarchy. True message of the cartoon wasn't "le men hypocrites", it was acceptance of the fact that we all have our ugly sides inside, and the guy was too shallow and immature to comprehend that and love his not-so-perfect girlfriend.
That moment you hope that the truth will finally emerge and it does. A lovely ending to the story. I didn't think that guy was ugly at all until he gave his girlfriend the boot.

I learned from this video from the version shared on Twitter, so I wouldn't consider it that bad. It's people choice to stay on Twitter or look for the original source.
I love the overall message and animation, but its also overly simplistic. The girl is painted as a victim, when she, like the boy, knew that she was taking a risk hiding behind a mask. She was being dishonest and shallow, too. Both she and the boy are desperate people participating in this toxic culture. I understand the guy was a bitter incel and a jerk, but why would she want to be with guys who don’t find her physically attractive in the first place? Doesn’t she want a boyfriend to find her naturally attractive? Why would she settle for less than what she deserves in a relationship? I guess that’s my hang up.

Exactly!! He fumbled so bad

Ur overthinking it too much man, she wouldn't have dumped you fort this.
the girl was genuinely prettier than her "girlfriend material" version
Honestly
Flaws add varity basically and actually even if a perosn is actually ugly, who they are can make the uglyness be beautiful in a way despite,
THey will be still ugly but it won't be the only thing they're.
Now ur just tweaking
Actually tho like she was so adorable 😭
@@alexcat6685She's chubby? I didn't even notice it

"Ugly" girls are treated far worse than any "ugly" guy
@@o340the boy is definitely wrong for throwing her out and calling her a b!tch

I love at 1:56 how you can hear the Leitmotif of "Linkin' Park - In The End", which was also foreshadowing the ending. ("In the end, it doesn't even matter.")
I didn't even think of it that way, I was just excited about linkin park
i had to FALL, to lose it all
OMG THAT IS SO CLEVER
Rock in Peace, Chaz
This reminds me of how there are a lot of guys who want “nerdy” girlfriends, but only if they’re also hot.
Edit: Jesus christ people, Stop fucking replying, it's just a joke.
i'm so desperate i'd settle for the ugly ones
Same thing w girls wanting “golden retriever” bfs
@@maxmcelhannan7477that's quite pathetic
Don’t lower your standards you’ll regret it.Some ugly people out there are way more fucked up than the average good looking people. What we not gonna do in 2023 is to date ugly people with wack behaviour #DoBetter
@@Falahill000what? I feel like golden retriever bfs are specifically attractive? Whereas nerdy gfs can be ugly or hot since nerd doesn’t include looks whereas golden retriever bfs are almost always buff and blonde?
Ok, that 'In The End' piano bit after he whipped out Linkin Park tickets was smart i cant lie
Absolutely love the tone-shift. It really shows us that it wasn't his appearance that was the issue. He wanted a girlfriend for the novelty of having a pretty girlfriend, like a status symbol or something.
When it's revealed that the girlfriend isn't super hot, we see that double standard come out.
It's very funny, because the guy probably thought no girl wanted to date him because they're all shallow and only want hot guys, only for him to immediately dump his girlfriend the moment she is no longer pretty 😂
Honestly? Really good reflection of that weird manosphere culture with incels and such.
This was actually a really good analysis of the quick ending, I think this idea in mind really makes the ending a lot more impactful with the message people vaguely saw.
I feel that they could’ve done the ending better to further push the ‘Incel Behaviour’ ideology it had the potential of pulling off perfectly
@lololp-why do you keep commenting this on everything? It was obvious the guys had wack ass vibes the entire short.
@lololp-Maybe he avoided her because of his low confidence.
Yeah I actually really loved the end
@CShellHeartthey are both caricatures created by the author. Men are already well aware of how much women lie about their appearance, from make-up to body-shaping clothing to wigs/weave/extensions. It's ridiculous that y'all honestly believe men are the ones dumping women for lying about their appearance.
Oh my gosh! These character designs are amazing! I love that they're not actually ugly, they're imperfect and shy. The girl's design, with and without the hoodie, is so cute and amazing! Love this
Loved the tone switch because it just goes to show that a lot of people wondering why they're single are single for a reason.
or maybe they just got unlucky

Oh no, maybe it's happened before and she's just used to it😢. She can't just hide her true self forever
Of course she expected it. So many modern young men are just terrible, fundamentally broken individuals who are getting their advice from manosphere-adjacent incels who have never had a healthy relationship in their lives.
3:33 That could be a happy ending, but I understood the message:
If we know that we aren't perfect why we want to find someone who is?
She clearly accepted him the way he was, but he was too selfish to accept her.
Exactly!!!! You put it into the most simple phrasing possible, good job 😂 I felt the same but didn't know exactly how to say it.... guess English as a second language failed me there 😅

I love this! :D it also perfectly represents all those guys who whine about not being "hot enough for women" and then when a woman actually likes them they still treat her like shit because she doesn't fit the generic beauty standard.
Yeah I used to hang out with nerdy boy's and because I was considered attractive they would literally talked s*** about other women in front of me and say thank God you don't look like that . The friendships didn't last long . Only one out of the four of them was traditionally hot . But even the traditionally good-looking one should have kept his mouth shut because it was rude . They would go on about how ugly one of their friends wife's was . They would say they can't believe their friend married such an ugly woman . Meanwhile the friend was morbidly obese with acne balding and overall just not traditionally good looking . They were both very very happy and I don't know why they had to hate on her looks . They should have been happy there friend was happy instead of talking smack about how the wife looked .

This happens unironically to a lot of girls now.
Especially younger girls.
It’s a good way to open the eyes of those not knowing what is going on in todays youth.
@@_Chessa_It's not a gendered thing, it happens to both men and women equally. Not just with physical appearance - the hoodie is obviously a metaphor for all the ways we hide our true selves. Many people hide who they are because they're afraid their true self won't be accepted. When they finally let someone in enough that they take the mask off, they find out they were right - their true self
gets rejected.
@@_Chessa_uuh I don't think it's common.

AAH! The end was so sad! Not even a magic sweater can hide that he's not boyfriend material.
It's interesting how the whole video was a silent movie except for the end to emphasize the impact of his rejection without screaming it into the viewer's ears.

@@kittypeanut4102 I don't remember... It's a good thing she moved on quick.
@@kittypeanut4102 I edited the comment to better express what I think I meant.
I love how the cute art style lured you into a false sense of security only for the ending to completely surprise you. It is a pretty good message on how guys resent women for always dating "the hot guys" but get upset over women being even slightly out of their standards.
Except that's actually not true, most guys are annoyed by women who go after dudes who have a lot of money. They completely understand going after attractive dudes.
@@trentdavis3304 are looks and money the only two things that women can possibly find attractive in men in your world?
@@trentdavis3304
Of course. Since you types of losers think it's "biological" for women to like "objectively" attractive men.
Guys love to simplify everything and perceive the world around their horny minds. They don't take into account anything beyond surface level in women, so they think women do the same for men.
And I love how they always say women are "money hungry" as if that were a bad thing. If you had the option to have a lazy life with your partner providing everything for you, you say you wouldn't take it? I've seen teen boys make the "5 dollars are 5 dollars" joke more than I've seen girls gush about riches
It’s vice versa, not just men, just typically it is more common with men.
Someone else just notice that Mario and Sonic are kissing eachother? XD 0:26

Gosh I'm so sorry to the creator since people on Twitter shared a sped up version and completely seem to miss the point of the story 😭 this is very well done and I think the ending not being like 'oh he accepts her too' makes os much sense. Keep up your good work!
I guess that’s my hang up.
the sped up version literally conveys the exact same thing what are you waffling about lmao
I don't think i've ever felt this mad at a fictional character before
